My optimism for this game is low. We always suck at stopping a mobile qb -- one of the drawbacks of the 3-3-5. Cunningham isn't an elite runner but I'd be shocked if he doesn't get off 5 good runs on us a la D'Eriq King 2020

We’re 6.5 point favorites. Seems high. I think we’re good but I’m not sure i’d consider us consistently a touchdown better than anybody (besides Duke) in the ACC. Doesn’t mean we won’t win or can’t cover. But it would seem like to me that we don’t cover this spread >50% of the time. Not trying to be the perpetually negative State fan. But In my limited experience I’m bad at gambling so idk. Seems like much closer to a 50/50 game to me.

The half the distance to the goal rule is bad. Idk know to fix it really. But UL has gotten 2 personal fouls on this set of downs (they’re on O). It’s only 2nd and 16 instead of 2nd and 40 if it was at midfield. And obviously if it’s a personal foul on the defense here, it’s an automatic first down. No clue what the fix is but it’s not remotely an equitable way to distribute penalty yardage

Defense balled out, especially given the injuries. Didn’t really feel totally smothering. Gave up 400+ yards, 6+ yards per play. But it was more ‘bend but don’t break’ defense but that’s how it goes when you face a mobile QB…gave up a few big plays but mostly kept it in front of us and eventually got stops and got off the field.

I respect that bend-don’t break defense can make sense long term when you are facing a lot of mid tier offenses

It would be nice though if we had some safety play that would bend and not break. Ingle got destroyed on that long bomb and Pitts really looked lost when he had a great chance to make a play in double coverage earlier in the game.

All that bullshit aside, wtg wolfpack keep the dream alive for us to suffer greater heartbreak down the line

The late hit out of bounds penalty I was 'ok' with, however the roughing the passer on Vi Jones immediately before it was about as bad as the RtP pass in the BC game.

Not sure what happened to our run game. We were running the ball like crazy at the start of the year and having solid success, but it's just fallen off a cliff over the last two or three games. At the half we had a pretty even run/pass split and had averaged something like 1.5 yards/try. It got better at the end of the game (literally the last drive) and I'm really not sure why, so it didn't end up looking all that bad from the box score nvm it's still bad, 44/24, 1.8 yards/try.

Defense was encouraging given the injuries. They looked bad in the 3rd quarter but quickly got their stuff back together. Something something halftime adjustments (don't exist) but whatever, Drake Thomas is a golden god and I'm glad Vi Jones finally gets to play after transferring here. Ingle is up and down for me... at least he's not getting ejected every other game for targeting this year, he has some solid moments but isn't fast enough to cover guys like that.

Offense was all over. Our passing has been looking phenomenal and Leary's accuracy really seems to be improving deep. I don't remember there being as many nicky nacky little screens or things like that, which I like, because as soon as we play against a competent defense they'll tear that apart. I don't know schemes well enough to say what changed in the 4th quarter but we really got rolling at a rate I haven't seen from a State team in a while.

Overall, Pitt losing and Miami winning was good for us. Clemson continuing to win helps too, even if it was just FSU. If Wake beats UNC next week (and I really don't have a good pulse on that game either way) our game vs Wake the following week is easily the de facto early CCG, right?
