In the last 10+ years the stuff the football and basketball team (esp basketball) have gotten from adidas has improved tremendously. And yeah they get that shit for free. He’s our best offensive big man since….?

Richard Howell was really good but not really a great comparison. Howell was a great rebounder and had a good knack for scoring off rebounds. But he didn’t have the post moves that Burns has. Tracy Smith was really good offensively too but definitely didn’t have the passing skill that Burns has and I’d still give Burns the edge as a pure scorer.

I can't remember us regularly feeding a big man on the block and giving him room/freedom to cook the way we do with DJ since I have been watching (Herb days).

I think both Howell and Smith had comparable moves/footwork, but were never given that ability in the offense. Neither of them were as effective passers as DJ which is huge and a big reason why doubling him isn't necessarily the answer.

Smith was just as talented offensively, but he also was probably the worst post defender I've ever seen. Dude had zero ability to stop any opposing offensive player.

Howell had nowhere near the offensive ability of Burns.

Yes. Howell did a lotta dirty work and get out backs and scored that way. He was a really good player. But certainly not a pure scorer. My memory of Tracy Smith is clouded by how bad some of those teams were but he was definitely a baller.

I kinda forgot about Hickson. He belongs in that conversation too.
