https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/4125661-high-school-boys-are-trending-conservative/
Quote : | "But the numbers do say this: Twelfth-grade boys are nearly twice as likely to identify as conservative versus liberal, according to a respected federal survey of American youth. " |
Quote : | "Women ages 18 to 29 are more likely to identify as liberal now than at any time in the past two decades, according to Gallup surveys. Young women are almost twice as likely as young men to claim the liberal tag, a widening gender gap in political beliefs. " |
Quote : | "The political leanings of young men have changed little over the past two decades, according to an analysis by the Survey Center on American Life. Last year, 43 percent of young men identified as moderate, 31 percent as conservative and 24 percent as liberal. Twenty years earlier, the numbers were more or less the same.
But the leftward drift of young women alone has sufficed to move the needle on young adults as a whole. Generation Z favors liberalism over conservatism by a 48-to-33 margin, according to NBC News polling from 2022. Ten years earlier, young adults split evenly between the two political camps. " |
Lol @ Quote : | "“Donald Trump talks like a high school student. Maybe there’s a connection there,” said Robert Palacios, 21, a student at the Catholic University of America and president of District of Columbia College Democrats. " |

Saying he talks like a high school student is generous, although I guess it's a spectrum.
Now if these young people would just vote in at least equal proportion to the olds. 8/22/2023 6:32:43 AM |

I mean, I was co-founder of Teenage Republicans Club in 12th grade. By the end of college I had at least one foot out the door. By the time they're out there voting in any numbers, I suspect a lot of them will be moderate-to-liberal.
It isn't that young men are especially stupid, really, but in the absence of a modern definition of masculinity/manliness/etc., the outdated version offered by conservatives is appealing. My need to "be a man" didn't have much to do with my own conservative inclinations, but I certainly chafed under the perceived liberal message of "You as a white man are responsible for the worlds ills and you need to take a back seat." Given that I was 17 years old and hadn't been let anywhere near the front seat, let alone given a chance to affect the world for good or ill, this seemed awfully unfair and much less attractive than the conservative message of "We will give you money and a gun."
Now you'll point out that those interpretations of the party are stupid, which is true, but they're not especially stupid. Lots of adults have an even dumber understanding of their political options. 8/22/2023 10:50:27 AM |

These numbers are nearly a decade old, but I find it interesting that the share of white men who identified as Republican dipped a bit near the beginning of the second George W. Bush administration but then has steadily increased since the beginning of the Barack Obama administration; I'm assuming that this share has continued to increase since 2016.
The numbers above are from: https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2016/09/13/2-party-affiliation-among-voters-1992-2016/
I also found these more recent numbers, which seem to suggest a continuation of that trend:

^I don't think it is primarily racism, not denying how it exists in the back of the mind of many, but I don't think so. Just a shift in the narrative in general with the culture wars and all. I think it is less of 'black people are bad or inferior' and more of a self identity 'crisis' that may project.

Yeah this is true. In 'normal guys' I've never really seen a proud democrat, but mostly independents who lean democrat or republicans or conservatives. I separate out conservatives cause there are a lot of people I've noted my age who will associate with that 'intellectual dark web' mentality but not really the GOP.
Social media plays a huge role, especially the ones where you swipe till you're braindead

Yeah, from what I've seen, it isn't even a thought or consideration for many. And for those who it is, it is a big part of their identity. But that might just be the noise. You'd think that the mock voting we had in elementary school during election season would've built something into us lol

I wasn't even arguing man, no need to go to the "shame on me".
Sure, the right wing is more extreme, but someone off the rails could end up doing something and like Bernie Sanders or Robert Reich or whatever, but then slowly get more into something crazy on the internet - it is the internet after all. 8/22/2023 11:24:50 PM |

ironic that the problem seems to be democrats aren’t doing enough identity politics
I’ve been arguing that ted lasso is the non-toxic masculinity archetype democrats needs to adopt. Biden did host the actors at the White House, time will tell how much democrats embrace this though.8/23/2023 1:54:15 AM |

The Quebec City mosque shooter was a fan of Ben Shapiro.

This shooter was both racist and anti-feminist.

^^ Kind of how the republicans do
Get figures like Joe rogan and Jordan Peterson but sane ted lasso bros being normal dudes but then occasionally saying pro democrat stuff
Hollywood is subtle with their pro democrats messages but they need people being more explicit because people are dense

Conservatism appeals to the young and intellectually lazy. It’s easy to shout slogans and reassure yourself that your ignorance is ‘common sense.’ 11/5/2023 12:13:07 PM |

^^
Not really, you could say that about young people on any side, even if their "side" is right. Especially the "shouting slogans" part, we've all seen those videos protesting speakers. Most people want to feel like they're doing something.
What you may be intending to refer to is simply what is considered "cool" in the sense that it isn't the towed line, with the ben shapiro / jordan peterson types. But that isn't even really specific to the intellectually lazy, but, in general, those not inclined to it at all. Which I guess is semantics, but I get your point. However, you could apply that same logic to most social media left wing influencers as well. Right now, this is the cool thing for that demographic, so that's what it is.
