The Fall of the House of Usher is an American gothic horror drama television miniseries created by Mike Flanagan. Loosely based on the short story of the same name and other works by Edgar Allan Poe, it premiered on Netflix with all eight episodes released at once on October 12, 2023.

So, the original story was about how familial rot caused the downfall of the Usher family.
With the show, sure, the family was rotten, but it wasn’t their rot that was the source of their demise - it was just a Faustian deal that Roderick and Maddy made when they were young.
I still enjoyed the show, but not my favorite Flannagan venture. Still, #1 in my book is Hill House. Then I’d say Midnight Mass, then Bly Manor, and then the Midnight Club. All solid series though. 10/23/2023 4:16:17 PM |

I'd prefer no spoilers, but whatever,
I watched an episode an a half, and it's not really grabbing me. And it doesn't seem very spooky yet. Does it get better? Does it get spookier? 10/25/2023 11:09:21 AM |

This thread was created to contain the spoilers.
There ain't enough activity here to warrant a running week by week conversation about a show, *IMO

I would say give it a shot. Its production value is lower, the CGI is a little hokey, and it relies more on Flannagan’s jump scares, but it’s ok. It’s probably my least favorite of his Netflix run. 10/30/2023 1:36:18 PM |

We decided to go back and give it a chance after nrot being very impressed with the first episode.... and thought it was really good. I think it or Hill House are my favorites.
It's defeinitely spooky/creepy/weird.
And it was funny to see the scene where old Elliot (E.T.) and Luke Skywalker were sitting on a couch talking. 11/13/2023 3:39:16 PM |
