I really don't understand how "not like us" is considered the best diss song of all time. I feel like real muthafuckin g's or ether are way better. Eminem probably has a decent one too

it isn't, but if it is, it's more so to do with the 'song' part than the diss. it's more playable than most diss tracks. more accurately, perhaps, "the most ICONIC diss song of all time (in the mainstream)"

This Lifeguard album is like the second coming of Gang of Four, if they were a bit noisier and listened to Sonic Youth and Big Black.

This is the thread I visit to read the names of hipster music artists I've never heard of.

I never claimed to be up on popular music. Quite the opposite. And I've only ever heard of them in this thread (and I guess previous annual variants).

classic old man move of calling music you’re unaware of hipster music

^^Check my age, bro. I'm not pretending to be young and hip, and I never was. Although my haircut does look like a 10 year old's. But I'm confident I don't have the same media consumption habits as you. I've always been old.

I don't call it hipster music because I've never heard of it. I call it hipster music because I heard about it from you.

here’s a hint: bands who have performed on the Tonight Show/other late night talk shows aren’t hipster bands

Well, how would I know this if I've never heard of them? It's certainly not an objective assessment of music I'm admitting I've never heard. It's an assumption about the type of music you might like based on my extremely limited knowledge extracted from your Wolf Web personality. I just guessed you would only like stuff until other people found out about it and then it ceased to be cool and exclusive. That's the vibe I get from not knowing you at all. The Tonight Show has been the worst late night show for about a decade. But that's also not an assessment of the music, but more a slam on Jimmy Fallon as a bad host.

I just looked up most of these artists on Wikipedia and without fail the first descriptor is some variant of "indie". You SURE this isn't hipster music?

But I have nothing of value to add.

Enjoy Piss Leg with my compliments!

the bands I’ve posted about seeing live in the last few months are Devo, the B-52’s, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Weird Al, and Sturgill Simpson

classic hipster shit

But just to contribute something topical beyond my negativity, and speaking of weirdo shit nobody's ever heard of, this is a 2025 track:

I just made one objectively true shitpost not directly referencing or attacking anyone, and someone couldn't let it slide. Then comically gave a lot of hipster examples of not being a hipster. It's like he doesn't know that once you are identified as a hipster, absolutely nothing will prove you aren't one, because you might just be doing something ironically. LOL at Sturgill Simpson. He was literally the very first archetypal example in this tongue-in-cheek Vice piece from a DECADE ago:

https://www.vice.com/en/article/hw-the-definitive-guide-to-hipster-music-genres-hipster-week/

I guess it isn't fair to blame those who have posted here, but the content consists pretty much only of indie artists and a mutual admiration society among cool cats. Might as well be the vinylbandit policing of old. Someone else just post something borderline mainstream that while I won't have listened to because I am a loser stuck many decades in the past, I might at least have had a chance of having heard of through pop culture exposure.

But thank you for holding me accountable, StTexan. I will work harder to make you proud of my conduct.
