^^I was raised in a Christian home, rebelled in part because I didn't see faith in Christ lived out beyond church walls, experimented with different religions but left feeling empty, drifted into agnosticism for 8 or 9 years, met two devout Christians who challenged my objections to Christianity with apologetics and prayed intensely for me. I received Jesus as Lord and Savior, immediately went through some hardships that tested my faith but I stood firm, have now been involved in local and international ministry for 17 years.

^God gave us free will. Without free will, genuine love cannot exist. He also uses suffering to get our attention at times. We often give our bodies and physical comfort ultimate importance. But it is the soul that is eternal and it is infinitely more important that we have our souls right before God than have maximum comfort on earth 24/7. So pain is sometimes necessary to redirect our perspective to what has eternal value.

If I throw a rock, it'll bounce around, hit a few things, and end up somewhere as a result. Humans are no different except that our lives are so complex that we're influenced by infinite amounts of such collisions, to the point where we can't even comprehend it, and that's a good thing, because then we wouldn't be able to actually live.

So no, free will is not an actual 'truth', but in a human sense, it is how we should live our lives. You telling someone that they have free will, or in other words, responsibility, is itself the 'collision' that might inspire them to change their life or do things differently, but that itself shows that there isn't such a thing as free will.

"Free will" as a concept is just an attempt to make human ideas, responsibility, righteousness, etc. 'magical'; I'd rather just get to the latter, thanks.

We're not just rocks being acted upon. Rocks don't choose where they land. Our environment might be limited by our Creator, but we have a will that allows us to interact with our environment and make choices.

"I have set before you life and death... now choose life." Deuteronomy 30:19
