Well, I wouldn't get drafted. I have glass ankles that I can sprain on the drop of a dime.

BTW, this is a stupid topic.

"Army Faces Worst Recruiting Slump in Years

Associated Press/ROBERT BURNS | September 30 2005

The Army is closing the books on one of the leanest recruiting years since it became an all-volunteer service three decades ago, missing its enlistment target by the largest margin since 1979 and raising questions about its plans for growth.

[...]

As it stands, the Army faces a tough challenge for the foreseeable future.

"The future looks even grimmer. Recruiting is going to get harder and harder," Moskos said. "

its been 1.5 years since this was AN URGENT FEAR

how many years, salisburyboy, must elapse until you admit that you were just being paranoid and that this fear is in fact unfounded?

I don't have a problem with this at all. A large number of countries require their youth to serve in some fashion after their basic education is completed, Norway and Israel, for example.

Kids here think they are entitled to everything when I don't think that should be the case.

A lot of people could learn a lot of valuable lessons about life if they were to serve the governement in some way for a couple of years. It really isn't that much to ask for a lifetime of fairly protected freedom.

I usually get about this far into an email, then I delete it.

its better to go to jail, like muhammed ali, then get drafted and serve in an unjust war. too much innocent blood has been spilled. so to all those, stay home, dont loose your precious lives over ' fighting for your country' when in reality its more like 'fighting for oil'. i dont think the govt gives a care about lives lost both military or civilians who suffer in iraq. to them, its just a statistic, as long as they get the oil, nothing matters.
