Summer btw my freshman & sophmore year at state and I went home. I worked at the Kinston Indians ballpark, and when I wasnt working I was driving back to Raleigh to hang out with my friends which involved lots of debauchery & listening to master of puppets ad nauseum (they were learning how to play it). I was once again trudging through the high plains in a different role as part of geology field camp. I fell in love with that part of the country, and went back as a camp manager - I planned, gathered supplies, and led mealtime prep and cooking for a group of ~30 geology students, TA's, and professors. I used that as an excuse to get back out into the field without the pressure of being graded, and instead enjoyed the beautiful desolation that New Mexico had to offer, along with the rich culture, food, and wildlife that thrived in other parts of the state.
