mccauley hustled, he missed a few shots he usually makes, but when he was out there he looked pretty good to me
which is why im advocating giving costners minutes ot him
the only players that really pissed me off tonight were fergie and costner
esp. costner

UNO shot 34.5% and our defense out rebounded them. Other than the boneheaded and small fouls, we performed a lot better on D than O. I mean, 14 TO's and <53% from the line and you deserve a loss. Our offensive rebounding sucks also due to the abundance of outside shots.

1. Costner is Pouting 2. Fells looks like he doesn't give a s#^! 3. Our defense is allowing way too much dribble penetration 4. We still dont BOX OUT very well 5. Sid left Ferguson in the game wayyy too long he wasn't doing shit 6. McCauley had a grand total of 2 pts - I dont care what you say that is a problem
...
7. J.J. Hickson is unreal, and he is busting his ass out there (blocks, boxing out, running the floor) 8. Gavin Grant had a couple of his ORLY?? passes, but he is our leader and will be solid for us
9. The special olympics thing at halftime was borderline Awkward/comical. I thought it was a little strange for 12,000 fans watching them play almost like its for our entertainment. Also they dropped a line from a sponser after it was over that said "Common sense is innovation" ...wow 11/19/2007 12:39:46 AM |

^^^^^^ As I've said numerous times in this thread, Costner and McCauley work really well when their in the post together. And while I don't propose yanking Hickson for either one of them, I would suggest they have more overlapping minutes on the floor together. 11/19/2007 12:41:35 AM |

i'm w/ you on this one, i always feel terrible when they bring out fully grown "special olympians" to play at halftime like they're 10 years old. which they do at least once/season.11/19/2007 12:41:36 AM |

I'm not worried about our bigs. They will figure out how to share their minutes. The key to this team and to this season is Courtney Fells, because we have absolutely no replacement for him. When he's on we can beat anybody, but when he's MIA we are doomed. 11/19/2007 1:01:31 AM |

^hopefully Johnson becoming eligible will make Fells step the fuck up because we might actually have someone to replace him if he is slacking

i think fells came to play but many times he was wide open in the corner for the 3 and hickson would take it to the hole. You could tell on his face that he was getting mad. No matter what sport you play if you feel like your not needed and never touching the ball because someone else is doing everything you cant but to get mad. Fells is the man he needs the ball more. 11/19/2007 1:18:54 AM |

wtf. hickson is taking a high probability shot. fells is taking a lower probability shot. hickson needs to be taking the shot if he has the chance
Furthermore, we need fells to do more than just score. he has to be a shut down defender. IIRC, his guy was one of the other team's top scorers. He also has to get rebounds.
Fells is at fault if all he thinks he needs to do is stand around and wait for 3 point shooting opportunities to come to him

wait wait wait
when the hell did fells become "the man"?
he shows up for like 4 games ayear, other than that he's a ghost
dont get me wrong he usually plays some damn good perimeter d, and he'll drop some good games every once in awhile but i just dont think he'll ever be the bigtime 2 scorer he could be.
that being said i agree that hickson takes his shot, dude is consistently 3 feet from the basket with a layup

If that's really how Fells feels then we don't need him on the offensive end of the court...hopefully it's not.
^agree, no shooter should ever get pissed that a big man is taking it to the hole instead of giving the ball up for them to shoot. end of story.11/19/2007 1:27:41 AM |

The bottom line is, Hickson is the only player working really hard right now, while everyone else seems to think we're just going to roll on through the non-conference season. Costner and McCauley need to swallow their pride. 11/19/2007 9:41:20 AM |

for those that don't read SFN:
Quote : | "I don’t know anything about WHY this is the case…but, I wanted to share it with the community for some insight.
When I was doing some of the statistical work in our game entry and real good follow-up entry I noticed that the boxscore of the game on ESPN’s website was grossly inaccurate related to minutes played in the game.
The Boxscore at GoPack.com however included a play by play and was dead-on accurate with minutes played.
For example, the mintues played for Trevor Ferguson, Javi Gonzalez, Dennis Horrner and Ben McCauley were all off by about five minutes per player. A more direct comparison of the two boxscores is available here.
At first I wasn’t concerned about this because I presumed that ESPN just had some bae information. But, this morning’s Charlotte Observer actually ran the ESPN (aka WRONG) boxscore, making me believe that this is the boxscore that is ‘official’.
I’ve never paid any attention to this in the past, so I can only wonder how often the statistics that we are provided are incorrect?
This makes no sense to me. Does anyone have any deeper insight into this?" |

Santa Clara was garbage that year too. My cousin goes to school there so I check in on them every once in a while and it was a bunch of slow white boys who cant shoot that laid the beat down on UNC.
I was really pissed off about this L until I remembered that. As long as we come out fired up in the next game I'll forgive this loss.

would have rather had a loss to michigan st. as a wake-up call then a loss to UNO.
Right now our team is lacking role players. Last year the 4 guys (Mc, Cost, Fells, Grant) were spoiled with PT and the number of shots they took. I don't blame them for having trouble reverting out of a role they took pride in last year. This is where we see what Lowe can do, it falls on the coach to get the players to buy into a team concept. 11/19/2007 11:48:49 AM |

I'm not going to get too amped up about this until it continues to become a pattern over several games. Hickson's easily the best player out there, and everyone's still figuring out their roles. It'll shake out over time. In Sid I trust. 11/19/2007 12:46:11 PM |

Saying the reason we lost this game is because a desperation 3 was hit at the end of the game is comparable to THE MAN saying "This game came down to an onsides kick" after the Maryland football game last year.
We should have never been in that position. We could have easily put UNO away if we played to win instead of trying to spread playing time around. JJ pretty much had his way with anyone that was near him under the basket. 11/19/2007 1:13:12 PM |
