Our defense is horrible. It's time Sidney changed our defense some. Play a 2-3 zone or a 1-3-1 zone and change it up. This man-to-man defense we have is soft and we can't get a hand on any outside shooter until it's too late and we end up fouling. I wouldn't even mind the kind of defense we are playing if we could rebound but we can't do that either so we might as well go zone. Something has to be done. I'm just tired of watching someone shoot a wide open 3 and either make it or miss and they get an offensive rebound. It happens way too much.

And on offense, SLOW IT DOWN! We're not a good transition team. Most teams want to speed us up for a reason, we're not good going fast. Also, it would be good for Grant to touch the ball at least once each time down. As bad as that sounds, he's effective and a matchup problem for most guys and he can at least slash to the basket some. Also, Hickson needs to be that spark off the bench. He's automatic offense. McCauley needs to start as he has struggled coming off the bench and getting into the rhythm of the game. I would much rather see Hickson coming off the bench to provide some spark than McCauley coming in to basically not do anything. It's a mindset and McCauley has lost that fire and passion I saw last year in him from the benching. He needs to score his 10-12 points and grab those 6-8 boards for us to have a chance.

We suck. Yes. We suck bad. We have a bunch of slow, tall guys and one point guard who dosent want to shoot on the court at all times. Gavin Grant and Costner play the worst defense I have ever seen in DI basketball. Both of them play defense standing straight up, hands by their side and knees locked. Its no wonder they cant stop anyone. In practice tomorrow, please tie a string 2 feet in length around Gavin's feet and make him move his feet. If were lucky he might develop some footspeed instead of those long, nasty, sometimes uncordinated strides he takes all the time.

We dont have a goto guy (and no, Gavin is not a goto guy). I have yet to see any of our players hit a pull up jump shot (I dont know if they can or not). Our offense is dribble the ball downt the court slowly, pass to the left or right, if no open shot or past in low, loft the ball to the other side of the court and try the same thing. No cuts, not picks, no quick movement...its all around boring.

I could go right now to any town in NC and get a group of guys that could beat our basketball team. (sad but true, I played against Scooter Sherril, Evtimov, and Jordan Collins in a pick up game in C.Michael a few years ago and we beat them 16 to 6).

If I were coach, I start Degand, Javy, Horner, Fells, and JJ. They atleast look like they are trying hard.

ok first off it's still early in the season, so conditioning might not be where it needed to be to face MSU after such a long stint away from home. Tom Izzo even said afterwards that he had had games like the one we played against them, but you just have to learn from it and move on b/c the season is plenty long. Also I guess you discredited this part:

It seems like Lowe has made it clear that while he understands why they played so poorly against MSU, he's not going to allow them to use fatigue as an excuse, just like last year in the ACCT. The players could have easily said that they were tired and that's why they couldn't beat UNC in the finals last year, but all I heard from them was that they could have executed a few things better and that may have been the difference. I still believe Lowe is the right man for the job, and that he's just got to get these guys more focused and executing better (i.e. taking better shots, boxing out like your life depends on it, taking care of the ball, moving well w/o the ball, etc.)


I'll say this though, there is still no excuse for us losing to ECU!

Unless we win 10 or more ACC games and more than 20 some regular season games we might as well get ready for the NIT or the other post season tourny because we will not go to the NCAA's after losing to both UNO and ECU.

and i havent' given up on lowe either. i still say we make the tournament. i said before last season we would go to the NIT then this year make the NCAA. i stick by that. i think sidney will get things going before too long.

but that doesn't excuse the kind of garbage we are seeing now. making the tournament still doesn't erase the fact that sidney has done an absolutely terrible job so far this season.
