No you don't, it makes no bearing on the race and would only paint him as a political opportunist. Its the same reason Obama hasn't said anything about the Ted Stevens indictment. Silence can be as politically calculated as making a statement. They will let the talking heads and pundits do the dirty work.

LARRY craig?
oh... Larry CRAIG .... yes... i remember Larry Craig. the anti-gay, pro-marriage-bill-of-rights, focus on the family, Republican Congressman from Minnesota.
the one who like to play footsies with men in airport toilet stalls as a prelude to having random anal sex with gay men in filthy airport bathrooms ... then get back on his way back to D.C. to pass more bills in favor of protecting heterosexual marriage and denying homosexuals any sort of basic civil rights.
yeah. Larry Craig.

Edwards, the vice presidential candidate during Sen. John Kerry's 2004 presidential bid, had been mentioned as a potential running mate for Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee this year, and as a possible attorney general or other high-ranking appointee if Obama wins the November election.
I guess lying about things really doesnt matter too much in the democratic party. You democrats, I swear, if its not lying about your past and thinking people are too dumb to notice or find out, its then just about wealth redistribution.
Joe, while you might not be a bible thumper, you certainly come across with a holier than thou, self-righteous attitude.
Here is the good news though. If you ever have a bastard son, no one will care. However, a potential VP and possible attorney general lying to the public, not to mention being a sleezy lawyer, and cheating on his dying wife. Sounds like a story, but the paris hilton/mccain ads are much more juicy right? 8/8/2008 10:45:18 PM |

Might as well repost this since it got stuck at the bottom of page 9:
McCain on Hamdan:
Quote : | "The jury found that the prosecution lawyers had proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Hamdan had aided terrorists by supplying weapons to Al Qaeda and Taliban forces in Afghanistan. This process demonstrated that military commissions can effectively bring very dangerous terrorists to justice. The fact that the jury did not find Hamdan guilty of all of the charges brought against him demonstrates that the jury weighed the evidence carefully." |
http://time-blog.com/real_clear_politics/2008/08/mccain_statement_on_hamdan.html
Quote : | "While being convicted of supporting terrorism, Hamdan was acquitted of providing missiles to al-Qaida and knowing his work would be used for terrorism. He also was cleared of being part of al-Qaida's conspiracy to attack the United States — the most serious charges he faced." |

I'm demonstrating the fact that McCain either doesn't understand the Hamdan verdict or is willfully lying about its outcome. The court found him not guilty of providing missiles to al-Qaida. It found him not guilty of knowing that he was supporting terrorism. It found him not guilty of being a part of a conspiracy to the United States.
Quote : | "During the sentencing hearing, the tribunal judge, Navy Captain Keith J. Allred refused prosecutor's attempts to introduce the 9/11 attacks as a factor in sentencing. Capt. Allred also called Hamdan a "small player" and ruled that Hamdan would be sentenced on only one of the five counts on which he was convicted, because he said they were pretty much the same charge, which he characterized as "driving Mr. Bin Laden around Afghanistan."" |

^ Let's not be mistaken what this is about. This is not about McCain's cognitive abilities. This about his wife being a super-rich heiress. According to the same blog post, they own at least 4 homes in 3 states (Arizona, California, and Virginia). And who knows how many more they rent (he mentioned a condo). And I will almost garuntee you that McCain isn't paying the mortgages for those on a Senator's salary.
What this is about is good old fashion class warfare and envy. It's a page straight of the Karl Rove handbook. It should come as no surprise by now that political tactics they used to abhor have become fair game now that they are close to actually winning an election. Politico makes this point.
Quote : | "In recent weeks, Democrats have stepped up their effort to caricature McCain as living an outlandishly rich lifestyle — a bit of payback to the GOP for portraying Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) as an elitist, and for turning the spotlight in 2004 on the five homes owned by Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry. " |

Or maybe they've learned that you have to play those dirty tricks to actually win. You can take the highroad and lose every time, or you can learn that the American people actually are influenced by the negative campaigns and do what it takes to win.
Don't pretend like this is anything surprising. I think Obama has been pretty good about not going negative on a large scale until now. I don't like negative campaigning but it's one of those things that has to be done because America apparently can't rise above a drama fest level of politics.8/21/2008 9:37:22 AM |
Socks`` All American 11792 Posts user info edit post |
^ Then you have not been paying attn. Obama was going negative on McCain since the primaries, when commentators were saying he was doing it to 1) show that he had moved beyond the primaries (since it was becomming clearer hillary would lose) and 2) to show that he could go on the attack against Republicans (back when everyone was afraid of another swift boat assault).
Just because Obama wasn't running commercials doesn't mean he was consistently distorting McCain's positions (eventually even ABC News had to call him out on his lie willful misinterpretation about McCain saying we should stay at war in Iraq for 100 years).
But, like I said, I am not surprised anymore. I've accepted that is what you have to do to win. I am still just pissed off that for the past 8 years Democrats presented themselves as being above this type of Rovian bullshit. But whatever. All that really matters is November. why as a religious person when you make an allusion to 'that's god's decision' in responding to abortion a bad thing? I suppose the possible range of acceptable answers would be life gets rights at I dont know... conception, at birth, somewhere in between or I don't know. I think Obama's answer was a variation along the lines of - I am not qualified to answer that. I took the actual statement, “above my pay grade” to mean he does not know because he is not God.
However, for those of you that deem abortion as murder I could see how you would take any levity as at best, in poor taste and at worst, taking murder lightly. You folks are not going to vote for Obama anyway so I do not think any answer he could give would be acceptable for you. I think “I do not know when `life’ begins” is perfectly acceptable. It is not an “academic” answer.
A president will never be asked to vote on when life begins. If it could be answered in an objective, non-religious way it probably would be a very academic answer and as such, not really sufficient for most folks.8/21/2008 10:51:55 AM |
