what the hell does "impossible position" mean? is it impossible for him to play even halfway decent against a 1-AA team? i fail to see how being made the starting quarterback against the worst team on our schedule creates an impossible position.
and throwing on third down into "the teeth of a blitzing defense?" give me a break N&O. this isn't some powerhouse SEC defense we we playing that was just flying all over the field. it was WILLIAM AND FUCKING MARY. do you know why we had to throw on third down into that nasty d-1AA defense? it's because evans couldn't complete a damn pass to save his life.
like someone said, typical N&O fanbase hate. god forbid the fans don't just roll over and accept a losing effort to a FCS team. let's just go 0-12 every year, but as long as we're all friends and root for the home team and everyone has fun, it's ok right? then we can go back to our world of clouds and butterflies.9/9/2008 1:12:34 PM |

hmm...this is all interesting to me.
i booed. many people booed around me. it was my intention and my impression that the others were not booing daniel evans, but in fact booing the coaches who decided to play evans. i never heard any "booo! evans, you suck!!!" but i heard lots of "booo! take him out!" and "booo! put in beck!!" which obviously are addressed to the coaches. at least in my section it was pretty clear that the negative reaction was directed at the coaches much more than evans.
does it make evans feel any better? no. it's clear that we all think...know...that he sucks. but it's also clear that we didn't need some douche from the N&O to tell us how much the situation sucks for evans, how much he cares for the program, and what a great guy he is. booing the coaches' decision to play him doesn't detract from those things. 9/9/2008 10:27:53 PM |

of course a coach wouldn't want his fans to boo
it means his team is fucking up... and if it continues, it'll eventually turn to the coach and ultimately his firing (although at nc state, you tend to have quite a while until that happens)

Really. Believe me fans don't want to boo. They'd probably rather be cheering. Fans aren't going to cheer after a few (more) INTs and a lot (more) incompletions.

there wasnt any booing when beck was playing was there? (serious question, I wasnt at the game)
Whether or not it had an effect (highly doubt it), people arent going to keep cheering and losing their voice when you know evans is a.) either going to go 3 and out b.) throw an INT c.) throw a pick 6. d.) all of the above
At the SC game, I was cheering my ass off on defense. For offense I was trying not to gouge my eyes out.

the way I see it is... how else can a fan show his displeasure with the team/program/coach that will be noticed by the intended target
1. Do not attend games 2. Do not donate money
which most State fans (and any real fan of a team) will not do so all that is left is
3. Boo
or we could all just continue like nothing is wrong and take it and send the message that we are content to get shit on in every sport and have Fowler get even more comfortable as AD as he continues to fuck up our shit 9/10/2008 3:46:20 PM |

For all you booers (I'm a swearer myself), did you boo because you thought that your efforts would make Evan's performance better? Seriously, who boos because they think it will make someone start playing better? Sure it will probably undermine the player's confidence and make them perform even worse, just saying that better play out of the same player probably isn't the motivation.
^^We could also give him a reward for outstanding performance as AD. It's like reverse psychology.

once again, I wasn't booing, but the people I talked to that booed did not think they would help evans. They wanted the coaching staff to put someone else in that wouldnt curl up in the fetal position or throw an interception when the pocket broke down.
I think its ignorant of O'Brien to think that people were booing a) only evans, and b) booing because they thought it would make him play better.

Bill Cowher can't stomach State fans' booing Bill Cowher Resignation Announcement
By Adam Harris
Posted: Sep. 10 4:49 p.m. Updated: Sep. 10 7:26 p.m.
Tom O'Brien is not alone in his sentiments on how fans should treat college athletes.
The issue of fans booing players was addressed by O'Brien on his Tuesday night coach's show. The discussion's origin was fans at Carter-Finley expressing their displeasure with Wolfpack quarterback Daniel Evans during the William & Mary game.
BIll Cowher was a guest on 99.9 The Fan's afternoon show Wedneday with Scott Jackson and Mark Thomas. The issue of his alma mater's treatment of Evans was part of their conversation.
"That is something I would never condone," says Cowher.
A former Wolfpack linebacker and team captain, Cowher doesn't feel that it's fair for fans to boo college players.
"I don't know if it was directed at the quarterback," the former Steelers coach added. "Certainly I think the expectations are very high for NC State."
Among other topics, Cowher also discussed how much he likes the Carolina Panthers this year and how the Patriots will do without Tom Brady with The Insiders.
The full interview can be heard by following the link to the right on this page.

That argument is just as bad as saying "I'd like to see you do better" to people who say Evans sucks.
The fans are paying to be there, either through tuition or tickets. The players are having their tuition paid for them. The fans, out-of-shape or not, have a legitimate reason to expect quality gameplay on the field.9/11/2008 12:54:21 PM |

that statement has nothing to do with Evans sucking...it has to do with 99% of you people not being able to do better. the people that are tired of that arguement are the same people that know its true. you cant do any better so im sorry the truth hurts.
just like the truth is that DE shouldnt have been in there playing but the fans still should shut the fuck up with the booos. there were 25 football recruits and families at the game. one of them were interviewed about the boos and i posted it in this thread saying how disappointing it was to hear that coming from the fans.

I'm not tieing it to Evans being bad, I'm tieing it to the fact that saying "You can't do any better" is simply irrelevant and meaningless. Both arguments are tied to the same string of thought that fans shouldn't complain if they can't perform as well as the players, which is absolutely silly.9/11/2008 1:15:30 PM |

if you don't want to boo, then don't do it
but it pisses me off when those that don't boo act like they're so much better fans than the ones that do, which is such bullshit. it's just fans expressing their feelings differently.
and I also think the thing about recruits is stupid because they can see the game and they can see the shitty offense on display. Any recruit that has talent should have enough confidence in themselves that they can perform at the next level and avoid the boos. State fans don't boo every single time we have an incomplete pass or a loss on a run. This is built up frustration from years of sucky offenses. 9/11/2008 1:32:02 PM |

No. It has everything to do with being a mature adult. Not acting like an asshole in public. Football game or not, you are in PUBLIC.
Fans need to have some goddamn class and not act so stupid. The fact that ESPN.com and the ACC sports radio show down here mentioned how we boo all the time really sheds a negative light on our program and the people around it.
Booing YOUR OWN TEAM does make you a bad fan. It also makes the entire fanbase look retarded. And this kind of shit DOES deter recruits. Our quarterback sucks. Everyone knew it. Even the quarterback. So why act like a dickhead by demoralizing someone in front of 55,000 people???

Rational human being? We're talking about people who spend a lot of money and a lot of hours researching and watching a GAME that is played by 18-23 year old kids and most people take it very seriously. College sports, and sports in general, are not very rational to begin with.

I didn't boo anybody, but I totally understand people who were booing in W&M game. TOB, yes, booing doesn't make players better. What make players better? Maybe training? But what did you and they do in training? Why they became worse and worse? If booing hurts recruiting, shutout in a nationally televised game even hurt more, shutout back-to-back even hurt more. What do you want us to do with no scoring in 9 and half quarters? Cheering? Or keeping silicence? Ok, maybe I should keep silence, maybe I shouldn't go the game at all. Then noboday will boo you. Hi, super bowl coach, "Certainly I think the expectations are very high for NC State". Did you see fans even cheered for an incomplete pass? We are not expecting team wins any championship this year. but we are also not expecting no first down in 1.5 quarters especially playing with team like William&Mary. 9/11/2008 2:16:51 PM |
