But Biden sounded a lot like a politician as well, spinning the economic issues with his class warfare rhetoric and distorting the facts on McCain's tax plan.

I think it's going to get pretty bad for Palin when they start re-airing portions of this debate and show her "answers" to some of these questions. Yes, she came across as charming, cute, folksy, etc. but she also demonstrated that she was about as deep as a mud puddle and about as qualified to be president as the average American that she claims to so deeply empathizes with.

Ill admit, I was pretty scared in the middle. She looked lost for a bit.. but she then seemed to get comfortable and held her own. I think she missed on alot of chances to really hit back, but missed it. I dont believe you have to have a winner in a debate, but I think palin did better than expected and Biden came off very likeable. I dont think Palin hurt anything, which was huge, but mccain needed something to give him a bump.. this might get him a little bump.. or at least slow down the slide. imo

But seriously, did biden say to have judges adjust ones mortgage rate and principle? WTF man.

Supplanter...when you post these liberal network polls, are you just pointing out the fact that they are biased or do you really put any value to them?

Again you can sit there and feel confident because you think she came off as a neophyte, but her folksy regular person tone is going to resonate with a lot of independents.

I remember reading that in the Kennedy/Nixon debates, those who listened to the debate on the radio felt that Nixon sounded more knowledgeable and those who watched it on TV thought Kennedy won because of his personable appearance.

for what it's worth, i was watching abc, and they had three analysts: one who had worked for a democratic campaign, one who worked for both rep/dem campaigns, and one who worked for a republican campaign. and all three seemed to think that biden won. charlie gibson was kind of surprised that they all three agreed on that.

gotta love the irony. Media and some here between this debate and the other. Where mccain clearly had a better grasp on the issues, but many felt obama performed better and was more likeable. Now the roles are switched... just an interesting dynamic.

Obama knows how to craft a sound-byte and phrase a sentence to make it sound "right". People like him because he seems intelligent.

Palin wasn't even forming complete sentences or coherent thoughts during the portions of the debate that I watched... She gains ground by acting "cute" and having an accent. People like her because she seems "like them".


Not to say that one is better than the other, they're both horribly shallow traits to vote on... but personally I prefer "sounds smart" to "sounds like the average american"

^^I do too... so... Biden very solidly won this debate since Palin barely even answered any questions at all, and Obama and McCain was, imo, too close to call. I thought McCain was better on certain issues like energy policy and military strategy, while Obama did better on social issues and foreign policy... neither of them is that great on the economy, which is unfortunate.


^He had a distinct structure to the points he made, and the points he was making were typically obvious. How is this bad, besides the fact that it might not "appeal to the average person"?

You know..that's what helped propelled Clinton into the White House too. People liked him because he was handsome and sounded like them. He had about the same executive experience as Palin- being the gov. of a smaller state.

Yeah, I'm an arrogant person when it comes to the intelligence level of most Americans. And to me that doesn't matter in the least, because at the end of the day most voters still don't research the issues and candidates and instead vote based on misinformation or shallow preferences.
