^^ ohhh the patriot act. that is my favorite. i love a good overreaction.

besides, he said TAKE AWAY. that is different than LIMITING constitutional rights. which we can see that both sides like to do. not that either one is desirable (duh).

^^ YOU ARE ONE STUPID FUCK SON.

THIS SHIT ALREADY HAPPENED IN 1994 AND THE RECENTLY PROPOSED AWB IS EVEN MORE ALL-ENCOMPASSING. NOW THAT SO MANY SUPPORTERS OF THE AWB ARE GOING TO BE IN OFFICE, IT'S A GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL BE PRESENTED TO THEM.

THIS BAN EXPIRED ONCE AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THERE'S NO REASON TO RE-ENACT IT, BUT THEY WILL BECAUSE THEY ARE STUPID LIKE God.

THEY SEE NO HARM IN REMOVING THE RIGHTS OF CITIZENS SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY THINK THE CITIZENS "HAVE NO NEED" FOR THESE RIGHTS. YOU DON'T REMOVE RIGHTS SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU DON'T THINK PEOPLE "NEED" THEM YOU STUPID METRO ASS BITCH.

AGAIN I OFFER THIS:

"WELL, YOU DON'T REALLY NEED MORE THAN 10 HAMBURGERS IN A DAY, SO I CAN UNDERSTAND OUTLAWING PACKAGES THAT CONTAIN MORE THAN 10 HAMBURGERS."

Oh, I get it. It is only bad if you lose your constitutional rights all at once, instead of being slowly chipped away over time. The reason the return of the AWB alarms gun owners is the fact that it is only step one in the progressive erosion of the Second Amendment. Barack Obama has said he opposes concealed carry and would like to ban it nationally. So now we have a violation of possibly the second, but unquestionably the tenth amendment. He has been on record as being in favor of the prohibition of all handguns. According to DC v Heller this would be in violation of the 2A.

Telling me to sit back and relax because he is only going to impose restrictions on a few "bad" guns or that I shouldn't worry because he probably doesn't have the votes in congress is asinine. Just because the letter behind the President's name has changed from an (R) to a (D) doesn't magically mean everything is ok.

Yeah it's the whole 'give them an inch and they'll take a mile' concept.

Also I'm generally not supportive of MR.THAT'S METRO SON but he made a good point: the old one expired and nothing bad happened.

i don't really follow. but, either way, i don't sit here thinking that nothing bad will ever happen. if you read my entire post you'd probably get the context of my statement better. oh and you'd probably realize that i'm not arguing for the 2nd amendment to be limited, eliminated, nor have i been arguing for gun regulation. i just do not think that handguns will be prohibited. i do not think that obama will get rid of concealed carry. just because a president is for/against something doesn't mean that their personal beliefs are necessarily implemented. i don't think that if mccain/palin had been elected that roe v. wade would be overturned.

exactly

obviously. again i haven't been arguing for gun regulation or saying it is ok. i said (and you quoted) that the limitation of constitutional rights by either side isn't desirable. the comment about the patriot act was just to show you that government, on both sides of the political spectrum, has "chipped away" at our constitutional rights over time. but when it is something like due process or a right to privacy, no one really gets their panties in a wad.

i think my point is just getting missed entirely since, somehow, by saying that i (PERSONALLY) do not think that handguns will be prohibited, and saying that i am not anti-gun, that i am some how arguing for gun regulation. but its whatev.

as long as we have all the people who know about guns here, does anyone have a link to a good list of current ownership laws and licensing procedures for various types of firearms? I know you can find the laws on Google but I'm looking for more of a practical general guide.

So, after reading ten pages of idiotic dribble, I figured I would jump in.

The current AWB is a terrible waste of legislation that will do absolutely nothing against crime.
Any citizen should have the right to posses what ever type of weapon they want. If I want to carry a .22 single shot pistol, that should be allowed. If I want to carry around a Mac10 or Uzi, that should be allowed as well. If I for some reason decide that I want to sling an MP5, that should be allowed.
Guess what, I can do all of that right now if I go through and do the proper paper work.

When you take away weapons from an area, that area is seen as a target. Lets look at England for an example. They banned guns. The police are not even armed in most cases. They carry a club. Crime has sky rocketed. I'll give you a guess what took a gun's place. Knives. They are now looking at banning the carry of knives because the knives are violent. Wait, how are knives violent. The same way guns kill people? Oh that's right, it is the criminals that use them. But the LAC (law abiding citizen) is no longer allowed to defend themselves.

And I do agree that the second amendment will not disappear. It will have so many laws restricting it that it might as well be imaginary. The plans are to ban any weapon that uses a removable magazine. Ban any magazines over a certain capacity (california already bans > 10). Ban any gun stores within 10 miles of a school, park, or federal property. Tax ammunition up to 500 percent more. This will effectively shut down the gun market.
This will kill the manufacturers. I see it now, US military to import weapons and 200 billion bailout planned to save weapons manufacturer.

As said before,
I wear a seat belt because there might be a collision, not that I expect it.
I have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen in case of a fire, not that I expect it.
I have an spare in the car in case of a flat, not that I expect it.
I have a weapon in the case of immediate threat to me or loved ones, not that I expect it.

People who are pro-gun, pro-2A are not all red necks. We are just well informed. We know that crime can happen to ANYONE. Most crimes are those of opportunity. Locks are there just to keep honest people honest. Ban weapons and the only ones who are already breaking the law will have them.

Evidently this is changing slowly, as every year more and more police are carrying or have a weapon locked in the boot.

^Locked in the trunk, I'm sure it is readily accessible.

Some other sayings:

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
I carry a gun because a cop doesn't fit in my pocket.

uniformed liberals talking about gun control would almost funny if it wasnt so scary that it could really happen. it is purely an emotional based argument with no facts or rational thinking behind it. I arrested an armed gang banger the other day. when i ran the serial number of his piece of shit Kel-Tec 9mm guess what......it was stolen. See liberals, follow close here it gets tricky, criminals by definition don't follow the law. he did not buy a gun and do the registration and back ground check, he traded a crack head some crack for a stolen weapon. Criminals will always bypass the law to get guns, gun laws just hurt honest citizens. Im perfectly ok with background checks and waiting periods, but dont take away my right to buy what i deem necessary to defend myself. Sure there are instances of criminals getting guns legally and then doing something crazy, or a crime of passion....but its the exception. Statistically most violent criminals get weapons illegally.
