I love my dual core atom and nvidia 9400m in my netbook with HDMI out. Windows 7 is fast. Although i really want that new Alienware $799 11.6" netbook (M11x). CULV c2d and nvidia GT335M.

I think you're confused here. 8 hours is now bad. Netbooks are now 12-14 hours with the newer atoms. You're comparing apples and oranges again. If someone wanted a laptop they wouldn't buy a netbook.

haha sure they will. I have a 12" 1366 by 768 netbook and i wouldn't mind having a tablet too. They're completely different things. You're not going to be sending mass emails or word processing on a tablet like you can with a netbook/laptop. Again a tablet isn't supposed to replace a netbook/laptop.

I still don't understand that statement. First of all 12-14 hours is shitty? Compared to what? Second, yes netbooks do tend to have small screens, just like tablets. Again they're not laptops. There's a difference. Although they do come in 10-12" screens with resolutions typical of 15.4" laptops (1366 by 768).

I am impressed by the battery life on the Mac Book Pros. Too bad Apple takes forever to update their laptops. They're still running core 2's and 9xxx series nvidia chips. Never feel like spending money on outdated hardware.

No that's the entire 17" MBP. They're pretty nice. You're paying for the niceness though, not the hardware. The 17" start at $2500 and trust me Apple knows how to rip you off. They charge you an extra $300 to boost that outdated core 2 duo from 2.8ghz to 3.06. $600 for an extra 4 gigs of ram. Also an extra $50 NOT to have the crappy glossy display.

You can easily find a nice i7 laptop with a nice new GPU in it for under $2000 that would demolish a MBP. But it wouldn't look as pretty as Golovko pointed out.

I did hear about this. Steam recently announced they'd be moving over to OSX. That's still not all their games though. Just the older ones (HL/Source). Why would anyone game on an Apple? You can't buy a laptop or desktop with any type of gaming video card in it much less new hardware.

Oh I got snow leopard running on my netbook. Works great except OSX driver support sucks so bad I'm going to have to switch out my wifi card for a dell one if i want internet. Don't think it's worth the trouble.

Also, their new stuff will be available on Mac in addition to the older games like HL2, Counter-strike, portal, portal 2, etc etc. There are also plenty of reasons to game on a Mac one of them being there is no reason to own multiple machines when 1 macbook pro does everything you need and more.

Everything you need and more in terms of gaming? Please. It has a 9400 and 9600m. That's nothing more than an overclocked 8600. It's not exactly a gaming machine. Sure you can run a few newer games on lower settings but if you were a gamer it wouldn't be your only machine.

its run everything i've played on it from medium to high settings just fine.

and it runs SC2 beta very well. (in Windows but still the same hardware)...

and now that we've wasted a page in the netbook thread talking about non-netbooks...time to move on.

Well the point is it still sucks as a gaming laptop. Anything new you'll have to turn everything down. SC2 doesn't require great hardware to run. Blizzards known for backwards compatibility. I agree you CAN game on it but it's not ideal.

I can game away from my desk. I also don't own a desktop, just a 17" Macbook Pro.

just to name a few...all run just fine and most on high settings on MBP hardware. I mean its no netbook in terms of blazing performance but it will do.

None of which are new or power hungry games. Try any of the newer games, Arkham Asylum, ME2, Crysis, GTA4, Bioshock 2, or Borderlands. None of them will run well at all on a MBP. All those games you mentioned are from like 2004-2005 except for Sims which isn't power hungry at all.

I understand what you're saying though. You can get by with gaming on a MBP but it's not ideal and won't run any of the newer games that well. I don't need a powerful laptop because I've got a desktop and a gaming htpc. (plus i'm a recent graduate and without a job). I would love to have a MBP but it's not exactly in my budget at the moment.

huh? actually they do look better. At 1080p it's rather easy to see how a computers graphics rival a 360's. Anti-aliasing, vertical sync, anisotropic filtering all maxed out look WAAAAAY better than on a 360.

That's not really something that's arguable. It's obvious new games maxed out are going to look better on a PC with new hardware than on a 4 year old video game console.

You're still playing at 1080p...if you want to flex your e-peen then play on a 50" screen at a much higher resolution. Then i'll be envious and want to upgrade my 360 to something better.

Until then you've just got all that horsepower, constant upgrading, money pit to play the same game that my $300 piece of hardware does which also does everything I'd want an HTC to do with a pretty UI.

huh? How does hooking up a computer to a 1080p HDTV look like complete ass? It's rendering the games better than a 360 with better anti-aliasing and better overall appearance.

Not the same experience at all. While you have to check the label on the bottom of the box to verify that you can indeed run the game on your PC, fiddle with settings, driver updates, and inevitably go out and drop another $500 on a video card. I just pop in the disc and start playing. I'd say my experience is more enjoyable.

I haven't sunk that much money into it at all. Remember I'm a poor college grad. Doesn't look like ass at all. Just finished Mass Effect 2 on it and everything worked fine. Looks much better than the 360 version. Were you not wearing glasses or something? Newer PC games look great on a big HDTV. Much crisper, clearer, and no jagged lines like on a 360. I'm sorry you haven't had the same experience.
