we went to a bowl game didn't we? It probably had a lot more to do with guys coming back from injury than motivation but it worked out just as well.

here's a letter Lee Fowler sent me:

"These economic times have affected all our families and financial resources; please know that we are very sensitive to this issue and have attempted to reflect that in our pricing. Having you on our team and in the stands is imperative to our present and future success. With the added 8th game on our 2009 home slate we are anticipating a 6 game home schedule in 2010. With this information at hand, we have attempted to distribute the cost of this eighth game across the 2009 and 2010 seasons in an effort to keep the overall cost to your household down and be more consistent from year to year

Go Wolfpack!

Lee Fowler "

Heather Dinich (the same woman who wrote last summer that Kenan was a more intimidating atmosphere than C-F) might be my least favorite sportswriter.

Quote :
"When Mike Glennon signed his letter of intent to play for NC State, he did so knowing there would be a good chance he could play fairly soon. Five quarterbacks had an equal shot at earning the starting job last spring, and Glennon, then a true freshman, was one of them.

Few, though, expected quarterback Russell Wilson to have the kind of eye-opening season he did last year in his first season as starter while Glennon, a highly prized recruit, redshirted. This spring and summer, it's Wilson's job to lose, but that doesn't mean Glennon isn't as hungry for it as he was a year ago.

"My expectations are still the same," he said. "I want to be the starting quarterback. I don't want to take a backseat to Russell, and I don't think Russell wants to give up the front seat. It's a clean, healthy, competition. We get along fine. But both of our goals are to be the guy. But that's up to coach [Tom] O'Brien. I'll just keep working hard, and whatever happens, let it happen."

It's not just playerspeak: Glennon and Wilson really are good friends. On Wednesday, Wilson got Glennon tickets to his baseball game. They both played well in the Pack's Thursday afternoon controlled scrimmage. Wilson was 10-of-15 for 179 yards and Glennon was 7-of-16 for 133 yards and a touchdown.

Here's the big question, though: Will Glennon stay if he doesn't play?

"My goal is to start this year and that's all I can really worry about right now," he said. "That's not even a question right now."

This offseason, Glennon said he concentrated on his footwork, and a high release, as well as getting the timing down with his receivers. He's bulked up and gotten stronger this winter, and most importantly, the game has slowed down for him.

"That was one of the reasons I tended to struggle last year," he said. "The speed of the game was a lot faster. Going against the first team defense and scout team all year made it a lot easier. I can see the defense a lot clearer now. It's not as fuzzy as it was last year."

Nor is the competition at quarterback.

NOTE: According to GoPack.com, senior defensive tackle Alan-Michael Cash had surgery on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the spring and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Andrew Wallace will miss the rest of the spring because of a cyst."

TOB made it into an EDSBS post:

Quote :
"Pisces–Tom O’Brien.

Positives: Pisces doesn’t get so excited as to call anything “positive.” Let’s not be hasty here. All we’ll do is run 10 plays 400 times each, and then we’ll see what happens on the field.

Negatives: Pisces coach doesn’t get so excited as to call anything “negative.” It’s an opportunity to practice, and then to go out on the field and try it again. Let’s just everyone stay calm here, alright?

Physical appearance: Kinda short, but kinda tall. Sort of middling, and not too far off from average. A medium-pace walker, a moderately attractive guy, and sorta middle-aged looking, even if he’s only 30. "

had a very vivid dream just a few hours ago and it was of this game.

you can mark it down now, we will sack the Gamecocks on their first offensive play from scrimmage for a 9 yard loss. (crowd goes to 111dB level)

I'm sure we'll get good and loud for that game. I don't think we'll rival the Swamp or Between the Hedges but it should still be good. I'd say that we're a top 5 school in the ACC for most intense stadium atmospheres.

^ probably 4th?

I'd say FSU and Clemson are definitely louder, VTech is probably louder than us, but not by as much. Maybe we tie them for 3rd?

Can't think of any other ACC team really in the same loudness league as that top 4 though.

^^^^

I remember after we beat them in '04, there was a thread on their messageboard complaining about the way the VT ticket office put all the visiting state fans together and how we drowned their fans out.

I don't know about drowning them out, but we were LOUD. I was surprised at how loud we were, being one of the few state fans who were not in the big block of state fans.

I can't wait to go up there again this year.

Ranking the ACC football stadiums

http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=103654

This article is pretty weak, ranking us at #8. We're definitely top 5 material. After FSU, Clemson, and VT, we'd def rival Miami for 4th, although the Dolphin stadium should alter some things now.

^ that article is pretty weak. really, keeping CF full is our problem? well, maybe for rain games against south florida with a 3rd-string QB, but generally we fill CF up without a problem...

Did you actually watch any Miami home games this past season? It's a nice stadium and everything but it was never much more than half full...not loud by any stretch of the imagination. Dolphins stadium is certainly alot nicer than the orange bowl but the atmosphere leaves much to be desired for college games.

1-3) CU, FSU, VT in any order. I personally believe CU is the loudest, VT is the most consistently loud, and FSU just has the best overall atmosphere out of the three, with the Warchant going and how into it the crowd usually is. Their student section is pretty large.

then a little bit down

4) NCSU I remember during an ESPN U broadcast last year the announcers were talking about how many of the players around the league think that C-F is one of the toughest venues in the ACC b/c of how much the fans are into it. It should get even better as the TOB era continues on.

then way down

5-12) everyone else

It's easy for FSU to get loud since everybody can go "ooooOOOooHOHHOHH" youg et it, but some people at the CF don't really cheer. We still get loud at certain points but I'd have to say when FSU was coming back against us in 2005, I looked around in awe and it was damn loud. But all they were doing was the chop.

Scrimmage stats via PP. We either have an amazing passing game or a horrible secondary. I think more the former.

OFFENSE
PASSING
Russell Wilson (half a scrimmage; not injury-related): 9-of-11, 78 yards
Mike Glennon: 16-of-19, 143 yards, 1 touchdown

RUSHING
Toney Baker: 8 carries, 19 yards
James Washington: 8 carries, 15 yards

RECEIVING
Toney Baker: 6 catches, 68 yards
Jay Smith: 4 catches, 37 yards

KICKING
Josh Czajkowski: 3 FGs made (52, 43, 23)

DEFENSE
Audie Cole: 8 tackles, 1 sack for 9 yards
Nate Irving: 5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss

Some thoughts on the stats:

-We have some serious talent at QB. A combined 26-30 for 221 yards. Hot damn
-Our kicker kicked a 50+ yard FG in a live situation. That's encouraging.
-I hope Baker can contribute this year, but we really need Eugene back. Our running game is struggling to say the least (although this could be because our front 7 is going to be strong this year).
-I think our Secondary will drastically improve with time. Seems like they're still struggling with the zone concepts. We've got to find a reliable S, CB, and Nickel to play alongside Morgan and Johnson.

Damn I'm ready for some football.
