The Phillies lack of pitching depth is catching up to them right now. Their starting pitching outside of Halladay and maybe Hamels is really pretty sorry. Maybe when Happ gets back they'll be better, but both Moyer and Kendrick are bad and should be 5+ ERA guys.
Good win last night for the Braves. They needed it after dropping two straight. Still only 5-11 in the division I believe so they need to start winning some NL East series. Chipper still looks horrible too.
My Favorite Braves:
1. Smoltz 2. Maddux 3. Dale Murphy 4. Ron Gant 5. Javy Lopez
Always wondered who could bench more between Gant and Javy. Both dudes were roid monsters that had body builder guns. 5/27/2010 8:19:17 AM |

The NL East is easily the best division in the National League. The central is just bad outside of the Cardinals and maybe the Reds. The West has some pitching, but none of those NL West teams scare me if the playoffs started today. Maybe the Giants because they have a 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.
The AL East is by far the best division in baseball though. Three very good teams including probably the two best teams in all of baseball (Rays and Yanks) and the Blue Jays who have played well this year.
It'll be interesting to see how the NL East shakes out. If that Japenese pitcher for the Mets can become a solid #3 and Beltran comes back strong, then they will be tough. The Phillies are in a slump, but their hitting and Halladay will keep them in any race. The key to the Braves will be their hitting. I expect both the Marlins and Nationals to slowly fade as the season progresses. Both teams have some nice pieces, but just are not there yet. We'll see what Strasburg brings to the Nats. 5/28/2010 7:51:40 AM |

yay! 3 game sweep.. much needed..
looking at the schedule, it is possible we can get on a little bit of a run
3 home vs. Arizona 2 home vs. Mets 2 home vs. Reds 3 at Pitt 3 at Fla 3 home vs. Pitt
We go 11-5 in this stretch (which shouldnt be too hard), we are back in contention for wildcard.
In other news, its total bs that the phils gets 3 extra home games" |
Well we went 12-4 in our easy stretch, even better than I hoped for.. now with the win today are in first place.. team is def HOT! Loving it!

Troy Glaus has been on fire. Dude hit .330 in May and drove in 28 runs. Should get NL player of the month. Pretty awesome considering his terrible April. Looking like a huge steal now getting him for just over $1 million. Obviously he won't stay this hot the rest of the season, but hopefully he can keep getting clutch hits and keep this Braves offense rolling. 6/1/2010 7:46:36 AM |

If Chipper retires at the end of this year, we should resign Glaus and move him back to 3rd base. 6/1/2010 8:12:17 AM |

Another big win last night. Hudson coming back and being effective after an hour plus rain delay was huge. Saved the bullpen. Phillies had to burn through their whole pen last night so hopefully that'll caused them problems tonight. Hopefully we can keep the win streak alive tonight. 6/2/2010 7:55:55 AM |

This Braves team is starting to show relatively no weakness outside of speed and maybe defense. The lineup is hitting, good OBP, okay power now with Glaus and Heyward, outstanding bench with Hinske, Infante, Ross, Conrad, and Diaz, strong SP especially when JJ returns, outstanding pen with Wagner, Saito, Moylan, O'Flaherty, Venters, and probably Medlen when JJ returns for long relief.
I was not happy with the team out the gate and was skeptical about the moves Wren made, but giving the 2B job to Prado was genius, keeping Heyward for opening day has paid off, picking up Infante, Ross, and Hinske all were great moves, Wagner & Saito has worked out well, Glaus signing looks like a great move. The only move that can really be questioned at this point is Chavez who was lights out early in the season until his recent rough patch. His ceiling is still high though.
Hope they can avoid another deep funk and play consistent the rest of the season. 6/2/2010 4:57:46 PM |

4 against the Dodgers, who are 31-22 but had to use 3 walk off hits to beat the D-backs 3 against the D-Backs, who are struggling and barely able to score any runs 3 against the Twinks, who are 31-22 and leading the division 3 against the Rays, who are 36-18 and arguably the best team in baseball, but played in Atlanta
This is going to be a hard stretch. I'd be happy with 9 wins, but 6 may be a more likely result. 6/3/2010 9:38:34 AM |
