i had to post this since i was JUST bitching about that stupid book i quit...

i went to a recycling facility today for a customer visit and we stopped to talk near a big stack of paperback books with the covers torn off. the customer explained that wal mart tears the covers off and send the books to the facility. there were a ton of new titles in there so i didnt understand why they did it and he didnt know why either, he just recycles it

the best part... the book i hated... the girl who played with fire... was lying right there near the bottom of the pile. i smiled to myself. haha

Some of these lists are still crazy suspect.

Watching HBO is more edifying than some of this garbage.

The content. "Suspect" is an off word, I know, but I was tryna be consistent with my previous comment.

I just don't understand why people would take the time to document the reading of these books.

I mean, you clearly read a lot of entertaining novels, and you're obviously going to meet the 52 books in 52 weeks challenge...so....? I don't see the point of telling us how many mystery/scifi novels you've read this year.

bottombaby posted her list once. You're updating us with garbage like it's an accomplishment. "I travel a lot and enjoy cheap novels" seems to betray the spirit of the challenge.

I enjoy seeing what you read, ncsuwolfy. Seems like we are reading twins. I also get the hate feeling when you start a book and just cannot get into it. I started reading some memoirs book a friend just loved and I could not get into it. Seeing that you read the whole ice cold grave series makes me want to go back and retry those because I wasn't as into them the first go around. Thank you for posting your lists.

thanks pawprint. i really liked the first lily bard book, i think im going to enjoy that series more than the ice cold grave ones. admittedly, those were a little strange. that character kind of annoyed me too but i was into the nature of her job and the kind of trouble she got into.

and bridget, if you're bothered by my list then skip my posts.

and i enjoy seeing other people post their progress. i have read more than a few books based on rave reviews from others (and have many on my own list of books to read)

i havent posted since i finished book 34! lol jeez.

and the spirit of the thread? um, may i remind you of the first post?

Quote :
"'m going to try to read a book each week next year. I have a shitload of books that I haven't read yet, and plus I'm hoping to try to cut back on the time I waste fuckin' around on the internet.

So who's with me?"

the spirit is to read more, and the 52 in 52 is just a fun gimmick. we're here to encourage more reading! not master the finest literature of the world unless of course, that is what you're into

how do you read 2 books at once? i've never been able to do that. i either get way into what i'm reading and just stick to that until i'm done or if it doesn't hold my attention toss it aside (i'm really bad about that. i've done that to books and then picked them back up months or years later and have LOVED them. whoops)

if i read 2 at once i get the stories confused. i think its partly because i dream about what i read and so it all mashes together in my mind and then i wake up and can't remember if something actually happened in a book or if i dreamed it. i'm weird.

well...100 Years of Solitude is a more difficult read for me that I find I can only read when sitting alone in silence w/ zero distractions. So that's what I do. It stays at home by my bed.

Whereas the Jodi Picoult novel I can read while at the pool w/ screaming kids, with music going on, TV in the background, whatever and still absorb it completely. So that's the one that goes w/ me when I'm out and about & babysitting.

Now this was really easy with the Celia Rivenbark book I just finished b/c it's non-fiction humorous essays. I could read one or two essays then switch w/ ease.

I guess it's something I picked up though w/ school. I was constantly juggling 3-6 books per class often reading 2 or even 3 at a time to discuss a particular subject.

Looking to sell some of my Sookie books and since so many people in this thread are into them, I figured it might be beneficial to post them on TWW in classifieds.

I am reading a few YA books and starting to get really irritated with the sexual innuendo. Just say they do it already. Teenagers do it...why can't fictional teenagers do it?!

lost on planet china by j. maarten troost

tokyo vice: an american reporter on the police beat in japan by jake adelstein

chelsea chelsea bang bang by chelsea handler

the bedwetter by sarah silverman

i'd recommend those 4 books from my list as the best, most entertaining reads. i LOVE the charlaine harris books so i recommend those of course but it can turn into an addiction that your gift card can't satisfy. haha.

The other two by J. Maarten Troost are good, and in a similar style. To my knowledge he's only written the three.

Now I'm on to "Master & Commander" by Patrick O'Brian (which Troost actually mentions in "Lost on Planet China," incidentally, and which was of course part of the basis for a Russel Crowe movie). I can't understand probably a quarter of the book, which involve nautical terms well beyond me, but I still find myself enjoying it immensely. After that is the new Patton biography, because I am a huge Patton fan.

Well, I'm somewhat behind on my goal, but my hard classes are over this week, so theoretically I can read more. Though usually the main impediment to my reading is finding something that can hold my attention. Here's a list of my books, along with the link to them on Amazon so that if anyone's interested they can read more about them. I'd encourage you to do the same.

elkbabies, just an fyi...The Choice is kind of a horrible book so I hope you didn't spend money on it. Only good thing is you can knock it out in a day or so.

Nicholas Sparks books make me feel bad about my life because he has no writing skills, and yet he's rich as hell for his "talent."

I keep reading them though...I guess I'm waiting to see if they get any better.

Nah, I have a library card.

Funny you should mention that though.... I had originally put those on my list bc I started reading NS books in hs (and read up until his memoir was released when in college) and would devour them, so they were originally there for ease in achieving the goal. Now the more I read, looking at those as a goal is dreadful for me (so I get what you're feeling). I own True Believer so I'll read that, but I think I'm going to hang up NS books altogether.

Yeah, I've read a few and have a couple more on deck, just for the fact that I know I can read them fast. I have trouble getting into books, so I have a stack here that I've started and not finished.

I'm starting to think this a book a week thing isn't good in some respects because I end up reading crap like this.

I still don't think a book a week is unreasonable, it's just that I can't tell if a book is gonna interest me until I start it.

I can relate, and I know that's been brought up itt before.

For me, while I know I won't achieve 52 books, this goal has gotten me back in to reading. I was a voracious reader as a child all through hs, but I stopped reading for pleasure in college. I've missed it, and have really enjoyed this goal for that. So even if I read a crappy book it's a greater personal triumph I'm much more excited for than any judgment on my reading list.
