Is the Philly jew dude who Jimmy went to visit in cahoots with Rothstein? Who is this Waxy character they are talking about?

So just to clear things up... why is getting Nucky in trouble with a federal offense a good thing? Is the Attorney General on Nucky's payroll? 10/18/2011 9:41:42 AM |

With it being transferred to federal court do to the whore trafficking charges, the Attorney General now has jurisdiction to intervene per Nucky's request of a favor being repaid for housing Warren Harding's illegitimate mistress and child in AC while the presidential election was happening. 10/18/2011 9:48:22 AM |

yes. the new prostitution/voting violations were federal charges and while the state's attorney thought he hit the jackpot by moving this to the federal level it will all get dismissed by the new Attorney General whom Nucky set up with Hoover in the election. 10/18/2011 9:48:50 AM |

Utterly fantastic episode. Easily the best episode of season 2, due in no small part to all the Richard Harrow screen time.
I'm concerned about Jimmy's fate. If they end up killing him off, BE can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. Not only is Jimmy a more intriguing, more fully-formed character than Nucky, he's a better person IMO. I think this episode put their differences into pretty stark contrast: Nucky has a huge fight with his biological brother in which one very nearly kills the other, while Jimmy shows a genuine brotherly love for a physically deformed man he hasn't known for long ("Of course I would [fight for you]...to the last bullet"). To put it generally, I think that Jimmy is capable of caring about someone other than himself, while Nucky really isn't.
That said, all that has made and inevitably will make Nucky a much stronger politician, which is why I'm worried about Jimmy's fate. 10/24/2011 12:39:22 PM |

Was that genuine or was he just telling Harrow what he wanted to hear so that he would go scalp a senior citizen with him?

Yeah, I wondered about that too, but for some reason it did seem genuine to me. I think Richard and Jimmy have an unspoken bond/agreement with each other that comes from their time as soldiers. 10/24/2011 1:22:20 PM |

^^^ I think it was genuine, because an episode or two ago Jimmy said to his wife that he had no idea what goes on in Harrow's head, which would probably make it harder for him to know exactly what to say to him to manipulate him into helping him with his dirty work. 10/24/2011 1:37:54 PM |

Richard fucking Harrow. I was about ready to throw shit around the house when he put that barrel in his mouth (by the way, anyone else notice that dog had a scarred up face/snout?).
I think Jimmy just kinda told Richard what he wanted to hear, it was made clear early in the episode that Jimmy clearly has no problems ad-libbing under pressure. I'm still thinking Harrow and Angie (Jimmy's wife) are going to get it on before the season is over. 10/25/2011 7:10:42 AM |

My two cents...i don't think Jimmy was telling Richard what he wanted to hear. I think, like has been suggested, they they have an unspoken bond as veterans. Jimmy has a injury from the war as well, a limp. The war changed both of them and I think that Jimmy views Richard as a brother or if not a brother, if like Nucky he thinks he is above people then he at least views him as a favorite family pet. I would do a lot for my dog and do anything for my sisters so I think his sentiment is genuine. 10/25/2011 10:26:03 AM |

great episode.
i'm enjoying this "was jimmy genuine with richard?" discussion. i think there's a case to be made for both sides. it could be the acting, but to me something about that scene didn't feel quite right. jimmy sort of has his back against a wall right now with the commodore out of commission and one of his warehouses up in flames. conceivably he could have just been telling richard what he wanted to hear because jimmy realizes how valuable his half-faced friend is to his cause. then again, they do have a bond as soldiers...only time will tell.

Add to that me saying, "no! No! No!" I also noticed, as above, that the dog's face was also scarred
I also don't think jimmy was sincere when he said that...OR if he was it will make the inevitable harrow & Angie hookup a big blow to jimmy.

^^I agree that an Angie/Richard Harrow hookup is inevitable. They have such a strange relationship, though (made even stranger by last season's developments with Angie and the married couple), that I'm not sure Jimmy would be devastated if Angie was unfaithful to him (again), as long as he got to keep his son. Jimmy is still fairly good to Angie, but I'm not convinced in the slightest that he loves her; oddly enough, his real woman is his borderline-incestuous (if not full-on incestuous) mother, whom Jimmy seems to sometimes recognize is a bit off. 10/27/2011 5:26:25 AM |

I disagree with that completely. In fact, I think it's the exact opposite. Nucky has been taking care of everyone his entire life. His father, his brother, Jimmy, Margaret and her kids, etc. I'm not sure who Jimmy really cares about. He seemed not to care that his wife was cheating on him and about to run away to Paris. He was whoring it up in Chicago. Who knows how sincere he is with Harrow.
All in all, I can't see Jimmy and Nucky becoming enemies. There has to be some kind of alliance eventually. I don't think Nucky is 100% free from his legal troubles. Shooter gave him no guarantee. And I think Nucky would be more open to an alliance back with Jimmy than from his weasel brother. I think they will both use each other as a crutch and both come out on top. I mean Jimmy already started taking out the Commodore's cronies...10/27/2011 7:14:33 AM |

^What? Taken care of them? He treats pretty much all those characters like shit in one way or another (except for Margaret's kids, of course, but they're minor characters). Giving them money is not the same thing as taking care of them, and it's definitely not the same thing as caring for them.

best episode of the season.
Jimmy's words to Richard were very sincere. Jimmy, as seen through Richard's eye, seems to have it all. Friends, a loving family, wealth, and is making a name for himself. But if you tear all the covers off what you really get is Jimmy in a marriage with someone he cares for but does not truly love and leading this uprising that is currently spinning its wheels with no real grip on what they are doing. Jimmy lives in his own form of solitude, but it's not as physically apparent as Richards. So the two of them really share a closer bond than you might see on the surface.
Richard Harrow is completely polarizing and i'm drawn to his scenes more than any other on the show, no matter how short they are.] 10/27/2011 9:07:46 AM |
