Some people like variety?

I mean, I'd love a Tag, or an Omega, or a Breitling. But my financial well-being right now is not such that I can afford a $2000+ watch. However, if something catches my eye for $75, it's not automatically out of consideration. (FTR all of the watches I currently own (4, LOL) were gifts. I haven't bought a watch for myself in probably 5 years. So I'm not representative of this thread, and I also probably have less money than the average TWW poster these days.)

I will answer cutiepie's question later. For now, I will repost this:

Which one of these Citizen Stilettos (< 5 mm thick) would you rather wear as a daily watch with jeans and polos? What if you had brown skin like a Mexican?

Waaaay cheaper than amazon here:

BTW, I almost got this yesterday. Put it in the basket with just 3 minutes to go until the end of the deal, but decided last minute not to get it. It was on for $377. Retail is $2,000+ and the cheapest you can find it online in the US is $500+.

^I'm not a big watch wearer either, mostly because I prefer really simple looks. I have this Timex, well, one of the variants (the silver exterior with a black face, red second-dial) and I put it on a leather strap. I'm wearing it now. I like it, very simple and clean.

I'm looking for something durable (pref stainless or titanium), scratch resistant, below $250, and somewhat classic looking. I don't need anything real fancy. I know nothing about watches (other than I need one) and I really just want something that looks nice that I can't beat up too easily. Thoughts?

Going to be difficult finding a sapphire crystal Citizen for under $250. You can check and see if Costco still has that one I posted a while back for ~$200.

http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-CB0010-53L-Eco-Drive-World-Perpetual/dp/B0045TI4HI/ref=sr_1_4?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1351203490&sr=1-4&keywords=Citizen+Eco-Drive+Sapphire+Crystal+Watch

Sapphire crystal, atomic clock, perpetual calendar, eco-drive and still classy looking.

^ see the 2nd post on this page. They can all be had for nearly 50% off, which means under $250. They are powered by the sun, have sapphire crystals, and are < 5 mm thick.

See the 2nd last post on the previous page for link to the cheapest online seller for those watches.

im in the market for a women's watch. was looking at the eco drives, in terms of price points.

would like the face to be rather neutral colored, smaller body style, but not one of those super small formal sizes.

nothing old ladyish.

any suggestions?

i haven't, but i am sure it is fine. lot of legit online watch retailers have such websites. just do a google search for "AR3010" (or one of the other model numbers) and see if you can find it elsewhere for just as cheap.

Decided to finally go ahead and get the Seiko 5 automatic discussed a few pages back:

I've had it for a week now and really like it, but I'm having a hard time getting used to the size of the watch as it is significantly smaller than my other two primary watches (37mm). Not a big deal as I know the sizes in fashion vary, but I do wish it was a bit larger.

Now if I had an extra $600 lying around, I really like this one:

Ceramic & rose gold, sapphire crystal.

It is customary to collect the wristwatches of the men you kill in battle.

However, you can't have any evidence of stolen German watches in propaganda photos.

Evidently, Taliban fighters don't wear watches.

Watches with compass readings like the digital one above are very important when you have to face Mecca several times a day.

The deciding factor between analog and digital for me: Analog watches show when you died.

on a much cheaper and less fashionable note, i'm looking to replace my 18-year old timex ironman digital watch...on this last battery change (only the second), some random gold connector fell out and while it displays, for some reason i have to hit the indiglo button BEFORE hitting any other button or else it doesn't register the button press

anyway, i'm looking at solar (and possibly atomic) casios...my primary use is when i'm backpacking or swimming (in an overly-chlorinated pool, to be sure), so i don't want an especially nice one...it just needs to tell the time, have a stopwatch, and have a countdown timer

i'm torn between:

casio LWS200H-ACF for $19: http://www.amazon.com/Casio-LWS200H-1ACF-Runners-120-Lap-Digital/dp/B003URWN5U/
casio GW500A-1V G-Shock for $60: http://www.amazon.com/Casio-GW500A-1V-G-Shock-Atomic-Solar/dp/B001AZXN4O/

the first is a "woman's" watch, but i don't have thick wrists and the size of the face is actually pretty large, so it should be fine...it's solar, no atomic setting, and WR to 50 meters

the second is kinda gaudy and a bit large, but it's solar, atomic, and WR to 200 meters

the reviews on both are 4.5/5 stars...i don't want to spend more than the $60 because i don't think there's much value (for me) past that pricepoint...but i can't decide if the $41 premium is worth atomic functionality and the extra 150 meter water resistance...of those two features, i think the WR is what's making me think, as i would assume more WR equals a more rugged watch overall (though it could just mean thicker seals)

thoughts? is atomic time-setting anything special? i assume the biggest advantage (outside of always being "right") is that it automatically adjusts for DST...and do you think the 50M vs 200M will make that much of a difference in ruggedness?

i don't think anyone else makes a solar digital watch around that price, but i'll take suggestions

How do you people replace batteries?

As I understand it, most watches you can buy have a batter that you can only get to popping off the back, which generally people go to jewelers and pay them to do. I was like "F that". Is there any watch that you don't have to go to a jeweler and pay $5 for every few months?

^ the vast majority of digital watches have regular (if tiny) screws that keep the back on

others require the use of a tool to remove the case back: http://www.amazon.com/SE-JT6341W-Adjustable-Screw-Opener/dp/B002ZLWFO6/

i'm sure there are variations on that, as well, but the tool should cover most cases

my citizen eco-drive obviously isn't a fair comparison, but i can't imagine that you should have to replace a "regular" watch battery every few months...i thought they'd last a couple of years (my timex lasted about 8-9 per battery, but i assume analog watches last much less since they're actually moving parts)

^ i considered the motoactv at $100, but it doesn't get good enough battery life for my purposes (i would jump on it if it'd work as a GPS datalogger while backpacking, but 9 hours isn't good enough considering my $40 logger gets upwards of 20 and weighs a 25% that of the motoactv)...i realize that's not what it's geared toward, of course

i'm looking forward to the next version, though

Yeah I'm using it for running (rarely longer than an hour) and biking (only a few hours) and for an MP3 player. I used to run with my phone but I have a much larger phone now.

For backpacking I use my Garmin 62s. It's battery life (depending on type of AA battery) is 18-24 hours. Plenty for 1-2 days of backpacking. I bring a couple spare sets of AA batteries to swap out.

this is going to be my next watch to replace the G-Shock that I lost. I like to have a good sports watch. It's the Highgear Alti-XT.

I was really interested in the Suunto Core but the Highgear watch is half the price and has all the same functions. Here is the Sunnto below.
