oh i went to state, and i have friends and relatives who went to unc

i also know people who were unc fans and ended up state fans (because of where they went to school) and vice-versa

you could just as easily be a unc fan right now, depending on minute life circumstances

We all have friends, co-workers or family who went to Carolina so we relate to them more. Duke alums are like polar bears. We know they exist but we never see them.

I despise Carolina with every ounce of my being. But I will say, I don't hate all Carolina fans and appreciate the ones who aren't pretentious asshats.

I grew up hating Carolina because my dad and sister watched it all the flipping time and expected me to be a Carolina fan - which is one thing I hate (people expecting me to do/be something), so that's where it started. From there, it never ceased to amaze me how people made comments about people going to State because they couldn't go to UNC, etc etc. Excuse me, but I chose my school based on what I want to do in life. From there, the hoity toity attitude continues. Acting like we aren't their rival just because we haven't been so great in basketball REALLY pisses me off, especially when their own coach admits he hates us the most.

I just can't stand anybody, whether it be an individual or institution, who automatically looks down on others because of their name. I have met few Carolina fans who didn't act this way in the slightest. I wish I could say I have met more but unfortunately, I don't see it happening any time soon.


Oh, and just to drive the whole pretentious point home because of their name - I used to work with a guy who had the audacity to make a comment to me this year about how "they" (aka UNC and obviously not him) hold their players up to a "high academic standard." This was during football season, and the dipshit couldn't even get into community college if he tried. So many people say they're a Carolina fan and think because they can slap on a baby blue shirt that they will automatically become super classy themselves. It amazes me.

This is the only thing that really bothers me but I know they do it just because they know it bothers State fans. It's a vicious cycle. We do it to ECU. UNC does it to us. Duke does it to UNC.

I hate this time of year because my sister (a UNC grad and HUGE basketball fan) always tells me how annoying state fans are because only state fans think there is a rivalry between UNC and NC state. It is so fucking pointless because I never once bring up basketball around her, and I cheer for UNC when they are not playing NCSU, yet she brings that up all the time......
