# of shares shouldn't matter at all. Why does it matter if you own 5 shares or 50? What's important is the amount of dollars you invest, and sure a high share price does affect the granularity with which you can invest, but even then, unless you're buying berkshire hathaway, it shouldn't be _that_ big of an issue.

I only have a few grand in the market, I'm not a big trader, hence my inability to buy much GOOG without putting more assets into the market

Goog is only at $500. You really shouldn't be trading in lots <$500 due to fees eating up all your profits.

I actually had a financial advisor laugh at me for buying 5 shares of Google once. I don't remember the exact price but I believe it was about $600 so ~$3k with a $7.95 online commission.
~
They were like why would you even bother buying 5 shares of something.

I was like if I bought 100 shares of a $30 stock would that be notable?

I couldn't believe they couldn't grasp that concept. And I don't mean a 22 year old AXA rep. This was a very successful person.

^ that is pretty stupid of the advisor. I like buying in equal 100 share amount, but just because I like to look quickly and see what I am up or down in a day. Change +0.40 = $40, durr...

But I don't see the big deal with buying smaller shares if that's what you desire. I've heard it's "harder to get rid of them later", but I doubt it now with online trading volume.

Either way $3k in 5 shares or $3k in 100 shares... who cares

Where do you trade? I pay $4.95 per trade whether it's 1 share or 1000 shares and whether it's at $1 or $500 per share.

Yeah, but if he's trading $100 of stock at a time then the $4.95 trade fee takes 4.95% right off the top.

^ It's really more than that when you think about it. To buy and sell would be 10 dollars, you would have to make 20%+ for it to be worth it.

Yeah, point being, it shouldn't matter if GOOG is $500 a share.

Exactly...cherry-picking 8 hours of data is not a legitimate indicator.

While I don't believe your prediction to be accurate, I don't have a dog in your fight. Your unfounded grandstanding is just a bit overzealous.

I'd say it is. I'm not a technical expert either but here are my thouhts on this chart

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/d1WFhXv8vX9lejrt7ul0aeGRTo-ReHPMUsiTz9dk0Jk?feat=directlink

On a daily chart basis it has been very predictably hugging its EMA20. When it gets a little overextended it pulls back. You can see we are getting a ways from it now. As of now if it closes where it is then it will have painted a hanging star candle which is often a reversal pattern indicator. The volume on this move over the past couple of weeks has been decreasing meaning a bit of exhaustion on the buy side. And, I'm no MACD or Stocastic expert but you can see what has happened in the past couple of months at previous levels.

Look at near term price levels there appears to be some significance at around the 13.50 level and in a pull back would likely be the point at which the rising EMA20 would hit it. I haven't been following this stock other than seeing you guys comment on it here but if it pulls back to that level and volume appears to build I'll likely hop on the train with you. A fail there an the next level would be 12.75 where the EMA50 would likely hit and in the event of a broader market selloff 11.75 would provide VERY strong support.
