Those of you blaming TOB on the RW "decision", how does Glennon look?
Been waiting to see some idiots take back their words and eat crow. 8 TDs 1 INT. Glennon is carrying our team right now with the D not able to stop FCS teams.
I love TOB, but Archer definitely needs to go, I'm not sure I know any fan that would be against it. 9/18/2011 12:22:24 AM |

a few thoughts that I had from the game last night
1- our tackling has taken a HUGE step back from where we were last year, and are about at the same level as where we were two-three years ago. It wasnt just missed arm tackles, it was awful technique where our DBs were diving at the feet of the opposing players, hoping they would trip over their backs. Hit and wrap up somebody dammit. It was pitiful watching their RBs break tackle after tackle
2- Our running backs are so mediocre. The are too small and quick for us to keep calling the run up the middle play so much. We need a bruising back (like Mustafa) to run the power/dive/iso plays like we did on almost every single first down throughout the game. Seems like stretches or sweeps would suit our current RBs better
3- What the hell happened to Dean Haynes?? I forgot about him switching to defense (hell I forgot he was on our team) until I saw him pacing the sidelines giving words of encouragement to players. He was our starting RB last year, so he would arguably be our best best at RB this year, but even if he is now playing defense how do you go from being a starting RB to a 2nd/3rd-string defensive player??? Why would you ever agree to make that switch? Even worse, our defense is bad this year, so how bad does he have to be to not even sniff the field against an FCS school?
4- Glennon is looking better and better every game, he does need to learn how to throw the ball away before taking a sack or trying to run downfield, but overall I like his progression
5- TJ Graham and Tobias Palmer are highlight reel players waiting to happen
6- Losing Terrell Manning for any extended period of time would be bad. I hope he comes back and Audie Cole gets his swagger from last year back 9/18/2011 11:09:28 AM |

the stars are aligned for Cincy will put up 70 points against us. Manning injured, defense looks awful, short week to prepare, Cincy's offense is hot. Archer will need a miracle for us to hold them under 50 points 9/18/2011 12:08:21 PM |

having seen Cincy first hand, they are good on offense, horrible on pass defense, and the biggest thing overall, very very soft and weak (literally, not figuratively), total finesse team.
Their offense is good, really shifty, tricky, you definitely have to tackle really well fundamentally, if you miss tackles they will score a shit load. Their secondary sucks balls. Glennon should get +300 yards, and 3 TDS and he will have to for State to win as unless State steps up big time there's no way I that I see Cincy scoring under 30 if State plays like they have been on D. 9/18/2011 12:21:41 PM |

Any news on Manning?
Quote : | "N.C. State linebacker Terrell Manning tweaked a knee at 2:22 in the first quarter and did not return. Manning did run off the field. Manning is one of the impact players on defense and the Wolfpack would be better off with him for Thursday’s trip to Cincinnati. The Wolfpack is already down three starters on defense from the preseason depth chart.-N&O" |
I heard that he also has neck issues? Anyone have any other info on this?9/18/2011 8:36:14 PM |

Wasn't this one of the criticisms of BC fans over they years, that TOB simply doesn't run the ball if it is not straight up the middle?9/18/2011 8:55:16 PM |

Not sure about that. William Green made a living running outside at BC while TOB was coach 9/18/2011 9:03:54 PM |

i'd argue the running backs are just fine. the play calls for them are absolutely atrocious. underwood at least has some power, but neither has a lot to work with in terms of open holes in the line (usually.. every now and then the line gets it done, and you end up with 10-15yds). i'd like to have a stronger RB myself, but these guys aren't that bad.
v do agree w the last part of that. we do need at least one (healthy) power back

There is a reason Underwood never sniffed the field for 4 years. Mediocre is more than generous. Washington is a serviceable 3rd down back, but not the workhorse our coaches want. 9/18/2011 9:42:19 PM |

^ TOB cannot recruit. He has never been able to recruit. He has no personality. He is a good football coach and can teach fundamentals, but his inability to bring in high level talent results in him never being able to win anything more than mediocre bowl games. This will never change. 9/18/2011 10:30:08 PM |

^^^^Underwood never sniffed the field because he fumbled every time he touched the ball in practice.
He had been playing decent this season. He was our first 100 yard rusher since T. Baker in 2009

so many 's on this page..
Quote : | "[Haynes] was our starting RB last year, so he would arguably be our best best at RB this year " |
Haynes was our starter in the beginning of the season. Washington ended the season as the starter; thus, Washington is the starter in 2011.
Quote : | "but even if he is now playing defense how do you go from being a starting RB to a 2nd/3rd-string defensive player??? " |
uhh, because we have 2 upperclassmen in Wolff and Bishop who have started at safety the past 2 years?
Quote : | "Why would you ever agree to make that switch? " |
You don't. The coaches decide where they need you to play. If you don't agree, then you can quit.
Quote : | "Even worse, our defense is bad this year, so how bad does he have to be to not even sniff the field against an FCS school?" | He does play; he plays on special teams. It's hard to tell on TV who gets subbed in, but I think he rotates in at safety too with Dontae Johnson.
Quote : | "Underwood never sniffed the field because he fumbled every time he touched the ball in practice." |
Exactly. That fly ball fumble on Saturday was awful. I know it was rainy and slippery, but you can't do that in the red zone. That's the second straight home game that he has fumbled. Coach Sands will lay into him hard this week for that. TOB looked like he was gonna flip his shit when that happened.
Quote : | "TOB cannot recruit. He has never been able to recruit. He has no personality." |
The assistant coaches go out on visits and recruit. That's all you ever hear about is the relationships that they form with the assistant coaches. Yeah, the head coach will go out and recruit some too, but the assistants do the bulk of the work.

I know that are tackling was bad against South Alabama...but do people really not see a massive improvement in open field tackles from last season? Last year was horrendous.
Because of that, I've also got to call shenanigans on TOB teaching them fundamentals. 9/19/2011 10:26:17 AM |
