^^ if there's "wealthy donors" that are involved as has been rumored, there's going to be a lot of pressure one way or another from these men or men they hire for Sandusky to never talk

Hopefully a father of one of the victims shows up with a tire iron if he's out in public. Or the prison guards leave him with the general prison population and then go for a long lunch break.

I think the media needs to show a little more of the guy who actually did this and not the coach who apparently was (at least) partly involved in the cover-up.

Honestly, having the football program suspended for a year or two might be a merciful thing to do. It'd give the university a chance to regroup, restructure the program, and move forward.

But that'd be a whopper of a punishment. I'm not even sure if the NCAA should be sticking its nose in here, at least not until the legal system is done maneuvering.

Agreed. no need to punish student athletes for this and really nothing falls under the NCAA's "jurisdiction"

The NCAA should get involved.

If ever there was a situation that warranted "lack of institutional control", this is it.

They don't care if you do bad things to other people.

They only care if players get illegal benefits, like cream cheese on their bagels.

it's the purview of the court, not the NCAA. real laws were broken, not NCAA rules.

they certainly want Penn State's bowl game TV revenue and ticket sales

DoeoJ, i think the tongue-in-cheek point i and others are making is that the NCAA regularly considers itself outside the scope of, and sometimes superseding the courts, both in authority and jurisdiction. we get that it's not actually their issue to adjudicate.

what'd they say?

why? it's not like they receive any of either

I hope Penn State announces they're just not doing a bowl game. I think this derails their Rose Bowl run. How if you're a player can you have your head screwed on straight and focus on Nebraska with all this stuff? they're 2 games up in their division to win it and go to the inaugural Big 10 title game

find the rule in the NCAA rulebook that states it's against NCAA rules to molest children

^ very different circumstances, this is far more serious than Ohio State

part of it is the NCAA are a weak administrator, what is it everyone always say about the future of college sports? "the big schools will someday leave the NCAA and form their own org"; the NCAA have a lot of faults - I don't understand how they let crap like Auburn last year occur, they have no clear guidelines to explain one punishment to the next - but like you say with the Sugar Bowl, there's so much money for the big universities now that if the NCAA play bad cop they'll get told to "fuck off" eventually and the big schools will leave

who is the NCAA? it's all the university presidents, people like Graham Spanier who was just forced to resign, university presidents are going to look out for their university before they look out for the sanctity of college sports or in this case even the welfare of 10-year-old kids

So the stress of coaching at Florida was too much, and people are thinking that the stress of regaining PSU's respectability won't be too much?

Seriously, he's obviously a good coach but if he comes back to full time coaching I'd be worried about it killing him.

No way.

Either Bradley keeps it for now, or they hire a lower-tier/no-name coach to hold the reins for a year or so.

my guess is that they'll go with someone cheap and respectable, who holds academics in the highest regard

someone like everett withers

UNC is getting Neuheisel, and yes I have no basis for that whatsoever and completely made it up.

I'd be surprised if they don't just keep Bradley, even if the team tanks the rest of the season (seriously, how could they possibly get mentally prepared to finish this season with everything that's happened).

They just showed a clip of Tom Bradley, the new interim coach, on the national news. It was a fairly short clip but he was basically saying that he was keeping Mike McQueary on staff and allowing him to coach on Saturday.

They just don't get it. They need to clean house.
