to people claiming "Thousands of people die every die, why should we care about 26 more," this is exactly the point.

these 26 deaths were not accidental, nor were they the result of foolishness or negligence...they were the result of some asshole deliberately snuffing out human lives for no reason.

these 26 deaths were completely unnecessary and preventable, and that's what makes this different from kids dying of cancer, in car accidents, and so on. it's always a shame when a human soul is prematurely extinguished; but when the extinguishing is deliberate or preventable, that's when we have reason to be outraged.

there are local, state, and national matches devoted entirely to shooting the sort of weapons he was using. some of them are sanctioned by the Civilian Marksmanship Program, a government-chartered organization that promotes firearms safety and marksmanship.

Living in CT, the coverage of this tragedy has been on all day/night since it happened. I honestly don't know how these reporters are able to keep it together. They just did showed individual pictures of all the victims, saying their age and a little something about each, like what they wanted for Christmas or hobbies for the children and how long they's been teaching, etc for the adults. I was crying after the first child was shown. I'm not a parent and don't really like kids for the most part, but this story is just heartbreaking.

one of the folks they interviewed said she had discussed "prepping". this is becoming increasingly popular with many people, including her demographic. if someone was to start researching the defense/weapons side of prepping, they would immediately be pointed towards weapons like the AR-15, 9mm handguns, and 12 gauge shotguns. i do not think this is strange at all.
