It was for past allegations. There have been talks about Syracuse for a while... they just got out ahead of it. They have been "clean" since they moved to the ACC I believe... or at least haven't been caught for anything.

With 5 teams in the ACC in the Top 12, the teams playing for that 6th slot are going to cut pretty close.

Right now it's Syracuse, but their end of the year schedule is killer (Duke, Louisville, Pitt, @Notre Dame, @Duke, UVA, @NCSU). I'm not sure they can keep that spot.

Clemson is sitting at 7 right now, and their schedule isn't bad. (VTech, @GTech, @Duke, GTech, NCSU, @Notre Dame)

Pitt's next, but they still have UNC, UVA and Syracuse to play among some other easier teams. Miami has the same ACC record going into the home stretch, but a much easier schedule than Pitt.

Will be interesting to see how this shakes out before the tournament and who gets the first day bye.

I think it's funny to see the shit I was getting ridiculed for earlier this season. I said Butler was good when they beat unc and that they were not a bad loss (top 25 ranked ), and I said that wvu was a really good team and that our loss against them was solid (again a top 25 team with impressive wins). It's not like they're golden teams, but I got ridiculed heavily earlier this season. Just saying.

i don't buy any mid majors, but that doesn't mean I don't think there's a chance for one to go far in the tourney. the number of busts, like gonzaga has been pretty much every year, greatly outweigh a VCU or George Mason run. it's like how fucking Boise State is a tourney team thus year...why? because they beat Colorado State once and play in a shit conference? NC State is far more deserving of a bid than Boise. wins matter, but not all wins are created equal.

FWIW Gonzaga has only made one Elite Eight which was in 1999. They last made a Sweet 16 in 2009. They may make it to the Sweet Sixteen, but like y'all have pointed out, history isn't in their favor. Maybe this team is different, but I've always thought that the WCC doesn't give them enough competition to make them battle tested enough to make deep runs or make a Final Four.
