Ok:
-Libby was hired by widmore to give desmond the boat.
-Widmore purposely sent desmond to the island.
-Widmore construction was responsible for building all of the hatches for the Hanso Corporation.
-Penelope used people inside her fathers company to learn all she could about where her father stuffed desmond, including the magnetic containment/discharge system they designed. This is how she knew to have the antarctica station monitoring for EMP.
-The others kidnapped jack, kate, and sawyer because they see no other way to hold thier attention long enough to explain to them what is happening, and that they should join together to fight Dharma.
-I think the magnetic think was throwing compasses off/messing with satellites, so the island was shielded. This means that the compass heading they gave michael will now be invalid, since it wont be effected by the magnet anymore, he will be back.
Just my thoughts. Tear them apart. 5/25/2006 9:14:09 PM |

Hanzo vs. Others is right on.
The whole show is going to come down to the bad feelings between Jack's Dad and Alvar Hanso. Trust me. 5/25/2006 11:00:02 PM |

I went back and transcribed that bit of the podcast and here it is:
Quote : | " Carlton: The truth is that we've gotten ourselves into a bit of hot water here. I know we joke around a lot, but the fact is that we chose to reference the Hanso Foundation, which actually is a genuine ... supposedly sort of ... kind of beneficial organization based out of Scandanavia. We've included them in the show and the show's mythology and--
Damon: We thought it'd be cool because they're philanthropic, not a lot of people have heard about them, we love the name "Alvar Hanso," it's a little shady and mysterious, so we just built it into the whole Dharma initiative thing.
Carlton: It's sort of one of those things sort of like [name?] mixing fact and fiction in some of his novels, and we thought introducing the real life element of the Hanso Foundation into the fictional world of Lost would create a really interesting kind of combustion. Unfortunately it turned out to be more of thermonuclear combustion.
Damon: Apparently we've pissed them off and we're getting all sorts of legal letters. This guy Hugo McIntyre who is their communications director has personally lobbed in several calls to Carlton and I.
Carlton: He's actually doing a sort of a counteracting PR campaign. There were ads in the New York Times and LA Times from the Hanso Foundation disavowing "Bad Twin" and certain things that were in that book--
Damon: We're just trying to have a little fun, and they're taking it fairly seriously.
Carlton: It's a little bit like certain things in "The DaVinci Code." We're trying to use real life things and blend them with fiction, and sometimes people get angry when you do that. " |

Do you think a media juggernaut like ABC...or even the Disney Corp. would be as stupid as to carelessly write an existing corporation (Hanso) into their fictitious plot? Not to mention specifically using names of their executives in the show? That just screams all sorts of lawsuit for defamation and slander.
Also, Disney owns thehansofoundation.org...so that's got to tell you something.5/26/2006 8:44:06 AM |

Yeah I agree, as much thought as it appears these writers put into their show, there's no way they would base something in the show on something like that. The Hanso Corporation is not real, and the executives are not real. Having these things and people from the corporation appear on late night shows are just ploys by the writers to confuse people. 5/26/2006 9:50:44 AM |

hmm...I don't think he is leading them to the island. I thought it was coincidence that all those people were on the plane together... not any kind of systematic process...
However, then you have to explain how the "others" know their names. But if they have some sort of contact with the outside world, then they could get the names of the people on the flight from the airlines, news (i'm sure the news has mentioned the missing plane), etc.... 5/26/2006 12:20:48 PM |

Jack's dad is slowly being revealed to have had a hand in everyone's life, or at least their being on the island.

# Female, thirties, with leadership qualities
# Female, early twenties, very attractive
# Male, Latino, early twenties, handsome, mysterious quality
My guess? These are some of the "background" survivors that Carlton Cuse told me would emerge next season. " |

Too easy. Faking it. And before you get all "jack's a doctor and good at everything so he'd know if his dad was faking," remember that Jack's dad is a doctor, too, so he'd know how to do some good faking.
I saw the body in the flashback, but until someone shows me a dead jack's dad on the island, Jack's dad is in charge of the others. 5/26/2006 3:01:29 PM |

How could Jack's dad be the leader of the Others if he's only been on the island as long as the rest of the folks from flight 815?
We know he was in Australia right before the plane flew out...and before that, he was in the US w/ Jack. I have a hard time believing he could find time to slip away for covert trips down to BFE South Pacific to meet/organize/lead the Others.
It would be a crazy plot twist...but I think it would just be lame and unbelieveable if it were true... 5/26/2006 3:48:04 PM |

I was just thinkin about this...but remember in the very 1st episode where Jack and Kate find the pilot in the cockpit and that monster thing takes him, kills him, and leaves him up in that tree? The monster was making all these loud noises and knocking over trees.
What happened to that thing? Seems like it made an appearance in season 1, but since then its been gone? 5/26/2006 3:59:27 PM |

oh, and sayid (naveen andrews) is in the 1995 movie first knight. lolocaust.
