Holding college coaches accountable for their players success or lack thereof in the NFL is problematic on a number of levels, especially with quarterbacks. He did get Tim Couch drafted #1 overall, even though his pro career didn't pan out particularly well. Plus it seems premature to be annointing Danny O'Brien as an NFL prospect.

Just saying most of these kids goal is to play in the league, Tom O'Brien has produced more NFL talent QBs than Mike Leach and that's saying something. Matt Ryan is a budding star. I for one am still scared of what Leach might do at Maryland.

Pretty cool how we can pull an All-American kicker seemingly overnight.

I never said he would transfer. What a dumbass idea. He would sit out 2 years to an ACC school. Just saying that Leach hasn't produced great NFL talent at QB.

The N&O did a profile on him a while back and they said he hit a 57 yard FG attempt at Nebraska's camp.

"When Sade went to Nebraska's kicking academy in June, coach Bo Pelini watched Sade kick from afar. Did he make a 45-yard kick? Yes. How about from 50 yards? No problem. But a 57-yard field goal for Sade's longest ever? The ball sailed through the uprights. Nebraska's offer came eight months before February's national signing day."

Felt that neeeded to be added considering our past few seasons' drop issues. Man, I wish TJ Graham were a senior this year. I'm not sure I can handle watching him drop another pass/muff another punt.

if Rashard Smith had been healthy this year we may not have to see such futility, at least on punt returns.

^ LB core should still be very good with Cole, Manning, and Maddox plus guys like Lucas and the transfer from Syracuse. DL will be a question mark.

the only question mark i see on D next year is:

1) Who plays Middle LB? Do we slide Cole in there and let Lucas/Maddox/Carter play the Strong-side spot, i.e. do we have another LB who is as fast or faster than Cole or let Lucas/Carter play the Middle. Maddox backs up Manning.

2) DE. I'm not concerned at all about DT's. Sweezy was awesome this year from his DT spot and so was the backup Cato-Bishop. Kuhn got a LOT of reps behind Mageo and in the bowl game i specifically watched him and he looked great getting in the backfield. Im really only worried about who the DE's will be. Rieskamp is very solid of course but I don't think anyone else saw significant playing time.

^^^Our safeties will be beasts, but I still worry about corner. It's not because we won't have talent -- Smith, Byrd, and Amerson can all be great ones -- I just worry about the coaching I've seen. Some of the technique, tackling, and positioning I see from our corners is flat-out horrible -- particularly when we're up against a West Coast-style offense (Maryland, ECU, Duke, etc). I mean, when it's 3rd and 3 and our guys are playing 10 yards off the WR (in cover 2), I start to wonder what the hell the coaches are telling them.

I will say that tackling improved big-time from last year, and even improved over the course of the season, so that's encouraging. Just wish they'd be more stout covering the short stuff.

Landed #3 punter, #3 kicker, and top 5 long snapper according to this.

maybe its just me but this seems ridiculously complicated

2010-2011 NCAA Regulations for the Recruiting Calendar

Quote :
"August 1-November 27: This is technically a Quiet Period, during which recruits can visit with coaches but only on those coaches' campuses. But it's also an Evaluation Period, meaning that recruiters can visit recruits off-campus during 42 "evaluation days" during September, October and November. These evaluation days must be designated in writing by each school's athletic director. Recruiters may not visit any single recruit more than once during this time.

November 28-January 29: Contact Period. During this time, coaches are allowed to visit recruits off campus. Coaches can make only one visit per week to individual recruits. Also during this window, coaches must be aware of intermittent Quiet Periods and Dead Periods (during which no in-person contact is allowed) set for the following dates:

December 12: Quiet Period (for junior college prospects enrolling mid-year only)
December 13-16: Dead Period (for junior college prospects enrolling mid-year only; staff may have contact with recruits who have been admitted for mid-year enrollment)
December 17-18: Quiet Period (for junior college prospects enrolling mid-year only)
December 19: Quiet Period
December 20-January 3: Dead Period (staff may have contact with recruits who have been admitted for mid-year enrollment)
January 9: Quiet Period
January 10-13: Dead Period (staff may have contact with recruits who have been admitted for mid-year enrollment)
January 30: Quiet Period

January 31-February 3: Dead Period. [Note: Feb. 3 is "national signing day," the first day that recruits can sign a National Letter of Intent for their school of choice.]

February 4-April 14: Quiet Period

April 15-May 31: Evaluation Period. Coaching staffs have 168 days worth of evaluation days; days not used for evaluation during this time window are otherwise considered "quiet."

June 1-July 31: Quiet Period."

well, fwiw, fwiw, one of the more seemingly in-the-know guys over on the free PP boards is saying we've got a good chance with Anthony. Actually, he said he thinks we'll get him, but i probably shouldn't say that, because it probably won't happen.

and of course, we've already got Niklas Sade
(although he's not showing up on the all-american roster on espn: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/news/story?id=4845501)

it could all go to shit of course, but the 2012 recruiting class is looking sweet already if some of these guys pull the trigger.

getting the long-snapper, punter and kicker is huge. If we could pull in

Anthony and/or Ellerbe
one WR
and another OL/TE

this class, regardless of its mythical ranking would be just fine in my book. 2012 is looking monster

Not trolling, the class is terrible. We needed that title appearance to save us.

I know TOB has never had flashy classes but has turned out productive teams but I just don't see it happening with us, he's been riding RW's back but I'm not sure we can do that with Glennon...

Amato rode Rivers' back and pulled in monster classes. A bunch of losing seasons later, he was canned.

TOB has had the best QB in the ACC for three years and has had mediocre recruiting classes since. Given O'Brien's track record of getting the most out of his players, I'm not worried until we start losing consistently again. It took him 3 years of losing season to turn it around at BC. Maybe four years will be our number for consistent winning season. Don't count out players you haven't seen play/develop.

We definitely boosted our special teams, and we still have a decent shot at 5* LB Stephone Anthony. We had a bad season last season so we knew this season recruiting would be a bit tougher. But going into next season we already have a good jump on some talented guys, including a few future 5-stars(2 with great connections to the school in form of parents or brothers going to or playing for State).

I've noticed that TOB seems to have up-and-down recruiting classes. Stars, no stars, stars, no stars. Next year will hopefully bring in some more highly touted players, and piggy-backing the success from this past season with hopefully some on the field success next season, we'll be able to do make more noise recruiting.

I think we're at an average class right now that addressed some needs, and if we can land Anthony then I'd say this class is slightly above average and should lead to an even better class next year.

I think his seat Is actually pretty warm, he missed a good opportunity this year to buy himself a lot more time.

If RW doesn't come back I think we have some 3-5 type ACC seasons ahead of us, we are losing a lot of talent and with the weak recruiting classes we've had I don't know we'll be ready to replace it
