We have established Nancy wanted to leave Brad, but "couldn't" because he was her meal ticket. The fact that one of her children might have been fathered by another man might have been seen by her as a way out. She could seek child support from Brad AND the other man, meaning more money for her, plus it would be easier on Brad. BUT she would have to tell other man he was the father.
Now, remember she wanted to spend time with this guy, "she wanted to go for a run"... let's say he finally agreed to meet with her and when she told other man he was the father of one of her kids, and that since she was leaving Brad she would be needing financial help to raise other man's kid. Other man lost control and strangles her. (other man being Pearson)

knowing that you were the father of one of these kids may make you act guilty and say "you are looking out for your kids" a lot when being questioned by the police. he may not be guilty but is trying to hide the fact that he's the father.
