My road goes up about 1/4 of a mile before it hits the "main" road of the neighborhood which goes out to Wilmington St. Roughly 1/2 of it is still a sheet of ice, including most of the hill. Minor hill, but still a hill.

I came to work, roads were fine. The worst was my neighborhood (there is a slight downhill right at the end of the road where it meets the main road and if you are not expecting it its easy to slide right out into the road) and my works parking rinklot

My neighborhood roads (near Southpoint) are damn near impossible to navigate. Wife works at Duke and was leaving yesterday evening to go to work and couldn't get out. Kept sliding backward down the hill. I had to leave a movie and come back to get her in the Subaru and was barely able to get back out. Haven't driven back into the neighborhood since; been parking it near 54 and walking in and out. Her jeep is stuck so I can't risk it with the only car we have left.

western johnston county secondary roads are pretty bad where i'm at. a lotta roads are fine. but there's some roads that are still very very icy and dangerous.

^Now you'll join the ranks of the hundreds of other drivers around here that have cracked windshields. I don't understand that shit. Why do so many people have cracked windshields around here? Every time I'm on 40 I see them.


I worked from home today and I want to die because I'm so stir crazy. I haven't left my apartment complex since arriving home from work Friday at 4. I'm planning on going to work tomorrow afternoon for a half day and hopefully the roads are navigable. A bunch of people from my apartment complex have been driving around apparently successfully so I guess it's doable. I'm going to go through Chapel Hill instead of Carrboro to get to the highway because those roads are more mainstream and probably less treacherous.

It's known that in the southern US when a window is cold and heat is applied rapidly it is likely to crack that window. It happens alot. The sudden change in temperature is the cause.

Our couples was a skating rink too. I got out last night and went up to the Plaza to get some food. The main roads are scraped and cleared. Back roads were driveable but kinda icy and shitty. Plaza parking lot was almost completely clean.
You should be good to get out today. We've been hunkered down here since Friday night. Thankfully my kids like playing videos and board games and watching tv, so nobody has gone too crazy, yet. One more day off work and school for all of us.
