I didnt have time to play for long, but yes, GOW3 is badass. I'm not really into video games but i got a PSP for travelling and ended up beating GOW on that. that says a lot for me. ha
I'll probably buy this one as well. 2/27/2010 7:05:56 PM |

Motherfucker! Updated firmware to play Heavy Rain and the dreaded 8001050F error. Anybody else gotten this? Reading up on it, sounds like I'm fucked. Tried all the simple fixes (hard reset, etc.) and nothing works. 2/28/2010 7:39:27 PM |

getting that message with the date/time setting. i severely doubt its a send it in type problem considering i havent updated in months nor played a game in months. strictly using the ps3 for movies at the moment. but wtf
not to mention i can't imagine 1000s of units are becoming corrupted from the users end all at one time. every forum i look at has messages about it happening in the last 3 days from tons of users.

Uh yeah guys, don't turn on your pre-Slim PS3s. Apparently there is some calendar bug (due to leap year) that is crashing pre-Slim PS3s, corrupting save files, and keeping people from logging into the PSN. 2/28/2010 10:39:38 PM |

SCEA is looking into widespread reports tonight of PlayStation Network login errors causing many left unable to play games, and even lose trophies, on certain PlayStation 3 consoles.
"We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it," the company said in a statement. "Stay tuned for updates."
Forum members and e-mail tipsters are saying this problem is primarily affecting owners of the older model of the PlayStation 3, and is even causing users to lose trophies previously earned. Many titles, such as Heavy Rain, are also now unplayable due to connection issues with Sony's servers.
One theory points to an issue with the console's internal calendar, which is reportedly resetting pre-slim models to 12/31/1999.
It's unclear at the moment how widespread this issue is.
IGN has contacted SCEA for additional updates on what's causing these errors.
Update: Sony has confirmed that slim PS3s (the 120/250 GB models) appear to be unaffected.
Update 2: According to Sony's US PlayStation blog, the company has "narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service even as you read this." However, despite more calls to Sony there's no indication on the time it'll take to fix – or indeed what the fix will be. More updates the instant we get them." |

My wife (programmer) is suspicious that it's related to poor leap-year coding.
Seems odd since this year would never be confused for a leap year, but whatever it's just another idea.
I understand why she thinks that, the shutdown seemed to coincide (for us at least) directly with GMT hitting midnight on March 1st.
Either way, the day without PS3s better not turn into the week without PS3s. I was just finally starting to get decent at Tekken 6. 3/1/2010 9:14:10 AM |

It's pretty much everybody, worldwide, with a pre-Slim PS3.
Makes the PS3 vs. Xbox360 debate more interesting. RROD is a pain in the ass of course, but they haven't had a "day without Xbox360 worldwide."
Ok, so it won't make the debate THAT much more interesting. 3/1/2010 9:20:50 AM |

Yeah, so what happened is the PS3s internal hardware clock went to February 29th, 2010. The PS3s OS see's that as an invalid date and for some reason, reset it's clock to 12/31/1999. This is causing all sorts of sync errors with the PSN and corrupting save files. The running theory is that tomorrow, the internal clock will go to 03/01/2010 and everything will be fine. Either that or Sony will release a firmware update that fixes everything. 3/1/2010 10:14:00 AM |

Maybe because no odd year is ever a leap year, but every even year has a slight less than 50% chance of being one, so maybe they fucked up the initial programming 3/1/2010 11:20:07 AM |

So I got a PS3 after Christmas just to use as a Blu-Ray/DVD player when my DVD player went kaput (also for the NetFlix, which I love).
I haven't played video games consistently since I had a PS2 back in my junior and senior years of college 5+ years ago. Even then, I just played Tiger Woods golf and NCAA Football. But now I'm thinking of getting a few games to play around with. I don't want to spend $50+on new stuff I might not like, so I'll probably get some old or used ones. Any recommendations?? NCAA football or Madden?? The NBA games any good?? How about soccer games? For someone who has always focused on sports games (with the exception of the 007 games WAY back in the day), if I venture out, what should I try?? 3/1/2010 12:39:32 PM |

not sure about sports since i haven't played any yet (just Uncharted 2 and Infamous), but I'm pretty sure most are going to seem pretty great b/c of graphics and your previous experience being with the PS2... i really want ncaa and tiger woods, but i'm keeping it to one game at a time for now 3/1/2010 1:04:29 PM |

Update on the PS blog:
Quote : | "
As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000. * When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”. * When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.” * When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)” * Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.
For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com. " |
