I don't think he was realistically considering us. Especially after he saw how terrible we were with Hickson and then the follow up year which was piss poor terrible.

I know what he said you stupid "troll" I was saying I don't think we were ever realistically in contention for him, and I outlined the reasons for you in my above post. Let me re-iterate for you, I don't even know why I'm feeding you, troll:
#1) We sucked dick before JJ Hickson
#2) We sucked dick with JJ Hickson
#3) We sucked dick after JJ Hickson
Now Paul Hewitt wasn't doing wonders for GTech last year either, but he's a final four coach. Not to mention it was well known he wanted to stay close to home. Now if you want to realistically think we had a shot with Cousins/Wall/Favors then fine, whatever helps you sleep at night. Ignorance is bliss.

Don't take the bait? Good idea, don't want to face the music. Sorry for being realistic about the situation. I know a lot of you guys like to think everything is fine and dandy in NCSU basketball land and we've just run into a two decade spell of bad luck, but the cold hard truth is our program is irrelevant and has been for quite some time, and seemingly getting worse. It was nothing short of a miracle landing Hickson and we fucked that up about as bad as possible. Getting him to #19 in the NBA draft was great, but top recruits want to do that AND BE A CONTENDER. IMHO it's the latter part that caused us to miss on the really big recruits this year.

Oh, so if someone thinks we were actually in Favors' top 3 BECAUSE HE SAID IT WITH HIS OWN LIPS that same person must also think nothing is wrong with the program? What are you smoking man? You are the one who isn't realistic. I challenge you to find 1 wolfwebber that knows anything about sports who actually thinks everything is "fine and dandy" with our program.

actually, looking through some previous top college players, a lot stay real close to home. some go to UNC and Memphis and UCLA or whatever, but theres a good number that just play for the in-state school

^ if you are content with that, and feel that no criticism is necessary then so be it. I realize NC State fans have been conditioned over the years to not expect greatness, but there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't.
A lot of the fanbase in general has settled for mediocrity, and that's exactly what we're getting. Power in numbers, and we have numbers. I'm simply trying to show that it's okay to have a different mindset and expect greatness. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I expect NC State to be better at basketball. But I don't contribute money to them, and I don't know what else I can do to try to get results than take my contributions away. Should we all just write in caps to try to make State basketball better? Should we call for Sidney's head every game next year? Then when the next coach isn't doing very well in his first couple season's call for his too? 4/19/2009 8:43:17 PM |

This isn't the thread for that to be honest. Take it to the credibility thread...
This is the thread to bash the guys who don't want to come to State.
Vandenburg can do everything Favors can do (until he chooses UN-R -- then he was the next Bartosz anyway). Cousins is too stupid to get in here so we told him no when he wanted to commit. Harrow is better than Wall. Etc. Etc.

Some notes on Wall from the Jordan Brand scrimmages. Got them from draftexpress
Quote : | "Considering that this is the first time we’ve seen Wall play live since last July, we noticed a number of substantial improvements. For one, his ball-handling skills look crisper than they did over the summer, as he went left or right with his typical explosiveness, but also looked very much under control. His court vision appears to have improved substantially—his teammates looked surprised on a number of occasions by the passes he was able to deliver right into their hands-- and he did a much better job running the pick and roll as well.
His attentiveness to playing defense looks better too—he constantly was urging his teammates to “D up!” and he set the tone for them from the very start, coming up with at least a half dozen blocks over the course of the practice. His ability to close out his man never looked more evident than in the 1 on 2 runout drill the players conducted, where Wall was easily able to overcome the substantial initial head-start his matchup had thanks to his blazing speed, often meeting him right at the rim for an emphatic block. His body language and overall maturity level also looked substantially better than it did the last time we saw him—the impression you got from the way he handled himself on the court was very strong this time around. Dave Telep of Scout.com prepared us for this in advance, noting that Wall has “made incredible strides as a person” in a conversation this past week, telling us that he has “come a long way.”
One part of his game that may not have come very far based on results alone is his jump-shot. We charted Wall making just one of the eight jumpers he attempted today, a mid-range pull-up from about 15 feet. Every other shot he took was a miss, sometimes a brick, and a few of them being wide open looks from 17 or 18 feet. The positive thing to note here is that Wall’s shooting mechanics look a lot better than we remember them, as he no longer seems to flail his elbow out. He needs to do a better job getting his legs underneath the ball and add some more arc to his jumper, as well as making sure he releases it consistently every time—but watching him play, you don’t feel like his shot is broke, even if he obviously has a lot of room to improve. he gave an interview to 99.9 the fan on friday that i caught on the way home from work and not only was he standing besides John Henson during the interview he was rooming with him at the classic. John Henson was due to interview right after Wall.
Wall said that the biggest misconceptions about him right now is the NBA draft rumors which he 100% dismissed and that he is a One and Done player saying that he has no problems staying 2 years in school.
Henson came on right after him and said he was going to get in his ear during the classic about committing to UNC 4/20/2009 2:59:55 PM |

Yup, that’s Billy D. — decked out in UF gear, according to Joe — getting in before it’s too late. He should be at Word of God within the hour. Wall’s also got a trip to UNC planned before heading to Coral Gables to visit Miami on the 24th.
Like me, Wall just got back into town. I’m just glad I’m not him. Last thing I wanted coming off an out-of-town trip was a bunch of people running up on me. Guess that’s why I wouldn’t make it as a high-caliber athlete.

a) We were not out of the Vandenberg sweepstakes as of 10am this morning. His concern is playing time throughout his career. Smaller schools are playing that card against us.

Wolfpackhoops guy,
Can you tell us anything about JV? ANYTHING? I know we need the guy, but I just have a hard time getting pumped about a player I know nothing about.
So far, I've got that he's tall, white, and Australlian. That's it. 4/21/2009 11:01:09 AM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
A few things on all of the videos I've seen from Harrow:
- He is really small. The smallest guy on the court on that video. The best guy, talent wise, but the smallest. Definitely needs to bulk up between JR and SR years and before hitting the ACC.
- Smooth looking shot from everywhere. I'm not sure he can create his own shot against bigger guys but he looks deadly when given room or pulling up.
- Harrow is supposedly a really, really quick guard. Just shows you how AMAZINGLY QUICK John Wall is. He makes Harrow look like he is moving in slow motion.
- He DOES have a better handle than Wall in traffic. 4/21/2009 11:04:06 AM |
wolfAApack All American 9980 Posts user info edit post |
The reason the height isn't as much of an issue for Harrow is because he has really long arms.
I watched him play 2 games live online (the game that last video is from was one of them) and he has no problem creating his shot against ANYONE one on one. In addition to the length, he's creative and can shoot off balance.
Regarding Telep and everyone else saying that he doesn't get his teammates involved, I'll take you back to what Lorenzo Brown said about playing with him. Something along the lines of "when you're playing with him you have to pay attention 100 percent of the time because he'll hit you in the head with the ball when you dont even think you're open". Also, that espn article said he can't play D or go left...which is false, especially the part about going left. And nobody plays D in AAU ball. They said the same about Brown yet he was the lock down defender on his high school team
He does pass a lot...but he has the ball in his hands every time down the floor almost. Honestly, he is a better option to score himself than passing to a teammate who can't finish as well.
I mean the jury is still out on him, but I'll take my chances. His size will hurt him on the defensive end of the floor if anything in the ACC, but I think thats something that can be overcome in the next year and a half. 4/21/2009 11:15:45 AM |
Maverick1024 All American 4866 Posts user info edit post |
The thing I've noticed about Harrow is he has incredible leaping ability. No reason a guy as short and scrawny as he is should be able to get up like that. He literally looks like he's got flubber on his shoes sometimes.
Doesn't seem to have much of a pull-up/mid-range game at this point, but that's something that's easy to work on. Like you said, he's got a great stroke and is great around the basket. But at his size, he has to add a floater/midrange shot to be an elite scorer.

^go watch more of the vids on him. He actually has a great mid-range game. The "floater" he has down to a science. He can literally score from anywhere on the floor. Thats never been the issue with Harrow. His size and possibly defense are keeping him from being an elite player overall. Nobody is going to argue that he can't score the basketball. 4/21/2009 11:23:59 AM |

I personally haven't seen Vandenberg play. From what I'm told he's borderline ACC talent right now. Probably a project player along the lines of Bart Lewindowski, except Vandenberg would need to log a few minutes here and there this year b/c of our lack of depth 4/21/2009 11:28:31 AM |

^^Just watched his new video and saw the floater at least three times. Funny ... I can't remember seeing much of that in his other videos. Maybe I was just over fascinated with his dunking ability.
Watching Harrow, it's scary how much he reminds me of Jeff Teague. Harrow's shot is better, and Teague is a few inches taller, but the way they play is eerily similar.

i'd get stiff nipples if this kid can have a teague-like career for us, add to that the current recruiting class.
I know if next year is not a significant improvement people will be screaming bloody murder but i think year 5 of Sid is where he turns the corner.
Can't go left, no mid-range...HUH?
This is more lazy-ass recruiting analyst speak. These vids against high school competition which is more intense than AAU (read NBA allstar game intense) speak for themselves. Especially playoff ball.
There's a part toward the end where this white kid gets a nice dish and gets mauled by three guys with the horner-patented pump-fake.

JV is light years ahead of where Lewindowski was at this point in their careers. JV can actually ball but is super thin. He would be more of a shot blocker and rebounder / not a scorer for our team with limited minutes. Bartoz never saw the floor; JV would log minutes as a freshman but not many. By his sophmore year, JV should be playing heavy minutes.4/21/2009 12:25:17 PM |
