Overall i'm disappointed by video games recently. With the exception of the Call of Duty series nothing has lived up to what it was supposed to be, is there anything on the horizon or that has recently come out thats ACTUALLY worth paying $60 for?

Either you have bad taste in videogames, or you just don't know what you are talking about. I can think of plenty of games worth $60. What are you trying to do, buy every game that comes out? All CODs, both Gears, Woods 09, Madden 09, Halo, Fallout 3, GTA IV, Resident Evil 5. I can think of other good games, they may not be worth $60, but there are a number of games that have lived up to the hype, like Bioshock, Silent Hill Homecoming, and Dead Space.

I played gears for a bit, didn't really grab my interest. Sports games never have especially golf .
Halo 3 was terrible. I said i didn't regret getting Fallout 3. Call of duty and Fallout are the only xbox games i see myself being able to play for an extended period of time. Deadspace was fun but i doubt the full game lives up to expectations.

I miss my PSX days of MGS, Soul Blade, Spyro, tekken 2, Cool Boarders 2&3 and those games that seemed to have limitless fun.

see i like variety so im somewhat the opposite.

if a game has all this replay, sometimes i really enjoy it and play multiple times through. othertimes it feels like just work or that im missing out if i want to move on to something else. i rarely want to pay 60 bucks for anything (except major multiplayer games like cod4).

having a nice 6-10hour campaign that is very fun (read: bioshock) makes it so i can rent games, have a great experience, and move on to keep variety flowing.

I still don't understand why old DLC isn't eventually made free. There is no logic in still charging 800 points for Crackdown content, or that Bungie has decided to never make map packs free from this point on. When does it stop? When do these companies actually give something back to the consumers? This is the only reason I despise console gaming over PC gaming

I understand the argument that old games no one plays anymore should have their content reduced to $free. No one should have to pay for the Call of Duty 2 map pack anymore.

Halo 3 is still the top played XBL game, so they still have reason to charge for the maps and make a profit on the extra work they did.

As for "giving back," they released the Cold Storage map for free and made the first map pack free.

It takes work to make new maps and they have salaries to pay.

I'm going to go with Fallout 3 and Mass Effect on that. I think that's partly because I'm starved for games with good AND dynamic stories. Screw final fantasy putting plot and characters on rails.

Mass Effect is udder shit. The combat that is. The gun play is sickening, the sniper has no breathing control option - its trying to be 'different' by making the controls harder, and having a VERY crowded squad control and equipment dashboard that is confusing, and the learning curve is WAY to high for this type of game. Def don't pick this up unless you want feel this pain, see a movie with the VERY long chat dialogs. The graphics are good tho. Yet, again, Microsoft Game Studios has created another piece of shit.

Give it a go. Its on 16 including tax at Gamestop. Its not really that bad, but the gun play, in particular the sniper, is the worst attributes of the game. The story is great, and somewhat confusing with very long winded chat dialogs. If you can get over these things you would like it.

Yeah, the guns can suck if your character isn't skilled/proficient in them. Once you get into the game its enjoyable, but learning everything and getting through the initial snore-fest of dialogue isn't very fun.

I started that GameFly thing, got and played The Force Unleashed as my first game. Pretty enjoyable, but near the end the combat was monotonous as I used the same attack chains to take down the bigger units. Good rental.

Right now I have Gears 2 and something else queued up. Anyone else use GameFly?

I got Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 a few days ago. I think it's better than last year's, but some of the wrestlers seem to have the "Hogan Complex" where they can counter anything and everything including struggle submissions. You hit them with two finishers almost consecutively or a signature/finisher combo and they still kick out. Little stuff like that. Other than that, the game is improved. Love the fact the game sticked to the current roster for the most part even though there are some joke characters they could have omitted to put more actual wrestlers in the game. The move sets are better, and the tag team mode is really fun to play.

I also got Puzzle Quest...addictive as hell. Love it, but I'm not paying an extra 700 points for an add-on to that game.
