Deshawn Painter was released from his LOI. NCSU is recruiting him hard.

^saw that as well. Good news that State is trying to get in with him.
On a different note, what in the world has happened to the Florida program?? Donovan wins two straight titles, then misses two tournaments in a row, Calathes turns pro, Tyus transfers, Painter backs out of his LOI. Something is not right over there. Bet Donovan wishes he was coaching the Magic right now. 4/22/2009 7:46:49 AM |

^ and ^^
interesting. I had not seen too much about him not qualifying. Maybe he can work that out and State can grab him.
His coach said he was not gonna go to Florida because he wanted the opportunity to play right away. That doesn't make any sense. Florida was thin up front last year and then Tyus, their second leading scorer and leading rebounder, transferred at the end of the year. Something fishy is going on here. They have one PF signed, Erik Murphy, but I doubt Painter would be fearing no playing time because of him.
Either way it looks like State has a shot at least. 4/22/2009 7:58:01 AM |

really? thats all i have seen on the kid and was hearing that this was the main reason he might be re-classed.
there was even speculation that his academics was the reason the asked for the release but who knows. i'd take a gamble on the kid in a heart beat.4/22/2009 9:12:48 AM |

Florida is also rumored to be having some internal problems with their basketball team...so anything you hear from them may be bullshit.
As far as Painter goes, lets see if it plays out. If I'm correct he still has a couple of months to try to qualify. We don't even know if he has an offer at this point, but he would also be a great addition to the 2010 class. 4/22/2009 9:15:41 AM |

we have not offered yet but we are very high on his list. right now his top three seem to be Maryland, VT and US with several other schools
(Marquette, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State) But it seems that NCSU and Maryland can offer him massive minutes as a freshman; im not sure about the other schools situation. Sidney is the main recruiter and he is working this hard.

That's what's so sad about Wall's recruitment. He really doesn't want to go to Duke but Clifton is pushing him that way pretty hard and it's likely he'll end up there. His visit to Duke was supposedly postponed until next week though.4/22/2009 8:12:43 PM |

He's had an offer from Duke for about a month now. What exactly is he waiting on if he wants to go there? Wall grew up a UNC fan and knows he would be a perfect fit for UNC's uptempo system. Duke is a terrible fit for him and he knows this but hasn't been able to cut the cord from Clifton. As I said a couple weeks ago, if Roy offers then Wall will be a Tar Heel. That's highly unlikely though because of Clifton so he may end up at Duke by default. 4/22/2009 8:37:31 PM |

that seems to be the rhetoric from everyone IC (and IC Premium) but it's all conjecture... no one really knows if Wall would immediately accept an offer from Ol' Huckleberry.. just more UNC arrogance 4/22/2009 8:49:16 PM |

Not true. UNC gets what UNC wants. They are God's program. Just ask 'em...
(and if they don't get him it's clearly because he is a bad kid and UNC doesn't offer bad kids)

Duke was extremely "high octane" and a fast paced system until 2005. Before that, Duke led or was top 5 every year in PPG. When K got burned on Livingston and Deng he made a decision not to go after the one and done guys and try to build teams with good 3 or 4 year players which could still win (at least he thought) titles every 3 years. Not too bad an idea.
Problem is that in today's game it just won't work. You need at least two horses and good complimentary players.
My point in writing this is just to disagree with everyone that says Wall will not fit with K because of Duke's system. I know it is a while ago now but does anyone remember Jason Williams, Chris Duhon, William Avery, etc? Duke has always played up-tempo on offense but in the last three years did not have the players to do it.
This is obviously a change in philosophy for K (recruiting one and done guys) and he looks to have decided that he knows this is what he needs to do to win national championships.
I can understand the line of reasoning that K and Wall won't mesh personality wise but to say they won't mesh style wise is incorrect IMO. 4/22/2009 9:08:42 PM |

^^^^ Alright, so Wall has offers from every other school of interest besides UNC and has supposedly ruled out the option of going league. Again, what is the hold up?
^^^ I know you're being at least somewhat facetious but cmon. Of course we miss out on some of our top targets. Roy struck out on several elite players in 08, including Holiday, Shumpert, Samuels, Roe, DeRozan, Aminu, and Elliot Williams. Some kids just favor other schools over UNC. Wall is not one of them nor is he a bad kid.
^^ Wall is on another level compared to those former PGs in terms of getting end-to-end. I just don't think Duke has the athletes to run alongside Wall on the break (Elliot Williams being the lone exception). I think K will play a similar style and use Wall primarily to penetrate the lane in the half court and finish at the rim or kick to shooters like Singler and Scheyer.

because he's not sure? because he still wants to take a free trip to Miami? because he was set on Memphis and then Calipari left? there are a lot of reasons... only UNC fans would assume it's because he is holding out for them4/22/2009 11:02:34 PM |

Jay Williams is the only reasonable comparison in terms of quickness and athleticism, and I am sure that is what K is pitching. However, it is laughable you even included Avery and especially Duhon in that sentence. 4/23/2009 3:07:20 AM |
