I don't understand this whole business with the secrecy surrounding this report. Of course my FB page is lit up with accusations that Diane Fienstein and the dems want it secret because it didn't turn up anything. Other sources say the repubs want it secret because it did turn up something.

Who knows. I just think the public has a right to know what the FBI found out about a potential SCOTUS judge, regardless of what they found.

trump got 52% of white women to vote for him (including something like 60%+ of non-college educated white women). white women will still vote republican, nothing about the kavanaugh situation changes anything.

the only thing that matters is how many women of color can you energize to come out and vote (trump only won 40% of women overall thanks to women of color, midterms need at least that)

^^People have always been worried about their daughters. That type of worry has been parodied many times in popular fiction. The whole "you touch my daughter etc etc" schtick. The "worry for my son" phase will die down when the news decides to stop reporting on Kavanaugh. That is just a knee-jerk reaction by conservative moms.

But I do worry for my daughter. All sorts of things go through my head about what might happen when she hits her teenage years. Should I keep her from any and all alcohol? Should I let her drink some here at the house? I mean is it better than going out to parties where there might be unscrupulous Kavanaughs waiting to pounce? I don't want to be the cool parent, but if I end up sort of like that, will it backfire? I'm even afraid of the day we have to get her a smartphone. Do we provide birth control? If we do will she see that as an implicit ok by us, to do whatever? If she gets pregnant, how do we advise? I'm sure parents of teenage girls probably realize that there's a teenage boy out there somewhere trying to take advantage.

So many worries already baked in to having a girl, before this Kavanaugh shit and #MeToo. So if people want to worry for their sons for a little while, let them be. It'll die down.

^^^^Historically, your daughter was your property, and depending on your circumstances, it was your job to ensure that she was married off to another man as his property. If you were impoverished and compromised, it might also have been your job to pimp her out or not be around when it happened.

This dynamic is why we have statutory rape laws. If some guy comes along and has consensual sex with your 15-year-old daughter, it's a crime...historically, it was a crime because the offender damaged your property, like he hit your car in the driveway.

The "worry for sons" thing when it comes to sex is complete nonsense. Of course, families have always worried for their sons when it comes to military service, prison, car accidents, getting shot dead in the street, etc...but this whole terror about false allegations is nonsense. Only black families have worried about that particular thing, and their remedy was simply to avoid white women.
