What the hell is going on in here this morning

Anyway, I got a shot of the Wichita State locker room at halftime, I think it demonstrates Marshall's rad coaching style pretty well

They use a modified run-n-gun offense, called the rip-n-run

TWW should have a type of mutiny/commandeer code where users can vote a guy to take over for incompetent mods

Look, the pool of available mods is pathetic this year. We just have to give him time to turn this around. Let the thread play out before we go calling for his head.

I'll never forget the time that packboozie tried to make the argument that black coaches are inferior to white coaches

that's when I knew...

Other sections have solid mods but I don't think we have the resources to lure them over here

Maybe we can get a mid major section mod like from study hall to come here

For the most part, this thread has been on topic. Since its an important topic, I didnt like popping in and seeing a bunch of racist shit thrown around. I know the thread hasnt been completely devoid of shit, but I just wanted to make the comment to stay on track. Oddly enough, the exact complaint some of you lodged was not being done in feedback. Its a thankless job.

Yes, we need to accept the fact we will always be shitty and never reach the levels of CC. I mean, when was the last time there was any kind of content in here deserving of a A-list mod? DECADES ago?

Nobody is helping out people with math problems in Study Hall. That's why I've been clamoring for an Asian mod in there.

^^that's so obvious to everyone, I'm actually a bit embarrassed that you felt the need to write it out. There's clearly what Debbie Yow spelled out in her press conference. jeez. All you needed was a transcript of the press conference and a packboozie decoder ring and it's quite clear.

I could have been mod, remember? But I lost 0 to infinity.

Who are we pulling for tomorrow? Do you want Shaka to keep going? How much more money do you think Shaka will pull for each additional win?

via espn's rumors section

According to Bill Koch of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cronin's agent was scheduled to meet on Wednesday with UC officials about Cronin's contract extension. Gregg Marshall Personality issues?

Here is what St. Louis Post-Dispatch sports columnist and sports radio broadcaster Bernie Miklasz has to say about him:

Gregg Marshall, Wichita State: Did an exceptional job in a steppingstone job at Winthrop, leading the team to seven NCAA Tournaments in nine years. Had to rebuild Wichita State and is four years in; finished second in each of the last two seasons. Kind of a quirky personality, which is a polite way to put it. OK, let me be more direct: the guy can be a real jerk. (Then again, so can I.)

Hell even his defenders call him "high strung and sensitive"

Really not a good a good fit for state.

I dunno, I just dont have as good of a feeling about him now that he is getting all sorts of press for getting to the final four. He is a fucking rock star at VCU now, hell he even had an interview on CNBC the other night.

I think if he wouldve led VCU to the sweet 16 or even elite 8 he wouldve got a good amount of praise, etc. but he would've disappeared from the national spotlight as the flavor of the week, and would be much more likely to come here. I almost feel like the media will berate him if he leaves VCU after such a magical run. I could see him going back to VCU next year, taking them to the NIT, and then jumping ship for a big-time job.

I'm not basing this on anything, its just my opinion

Bottom line is that a coach would be RETARDED to let an opportunity like this to pass. Shaka's stock will never be higher (unless he goes to two in a row like Stevens...which will be pretty tough with his seniors leaving). He knows that the odds of him of getting back to the Final Four at VCU are pretty tough.

99.9% of coaches at the mid-major level want to go to a high major...especially the young ones. There are a few old guys who are content making their half-a-mil and living the easy life. But most everyone wants to move up, get paid, and make a name for themselves. You don't coach college basketball if you're not a competitor.

Shaka knows this is his chance get a good job and get PAID. He misses the tourney next year or makes it and loses in the first round, and he won't get the money at his next job offer that he would after this one.

I just can't see him NOT jumping at a high-major offer unless he doesn't think he's ready...and he just doesn't strike as having the personality that would be scared or not think he's ready for a big job.

^^I dont disagree with that, I just wish he wasnt getting SO MUCH media praise. Not only does it drive the asking price for him way up, but it also puts pressure on him to want to stay with the "fairy tale" story he's writing and not jump ship right away. I think he's a good guy and would feel like he was betraying VCU and their fans if he left after getting them to the final four (or beyond). If he wins a national championship I dont think we have a shot in hell to get him

I still think if we're going to open up the bank for somebody, assuming Shaka is #1, we need to look at guys like Blaine Taylor and Chris Mack before Cronin or Marshall. I know Chris Mack turned down UT but nobody good was going there with their NCAA sanctions coming up. Worth a shot - much higher ceilings imo

I would be happy with either Mack or Smart at this point.

^Putting stock in his comments while the team is still in the tournament is insane.

yeah, and VCU's AD was on either David Glenn or Adam and Joe's shows on 99.9 before the NCAA tourney even started and he seemed pretty confident that Shaka would stay. I know, I know "what was he supposed to say?", he just seemed pretty confident and had apparently already had discussions with Shaka about it.

Whatever he is, he needs someone on the coaching staff to be the authoritative figure.

Coach K wrote in his book that he used to make sure that he had an "older" assistant so that they could act as the disciplinarian/father figure. It wasn't until the late 90's that he realized that he was the "old" coach, so he started hiring younger assistants.
