I'm an estimator/project manager for an electrical construction company. I am unmotivated because it's not what i went to school for nor what i ever pictured myself doing. The money is good which is why i'm still here.

But in this business you are rewarded more for mistakes than you are for accuracy. Projects go to the cheapest bidder, more so than ever with this economy. Therefore for every project that we price up and bid accurately we are undercut by people who leave stuff out, cut corners, have zero overhead or are just plain bad at this business. So it's frustrating to see your hard work and attention to detail all go for naught.

I work in a small office with 5 people, 4 male, all over 40. Our crew is down to 15 or so, all male. Every vendor, sales person, contact and representative i speak to is over 30, all male.

I feel like i'm stuck. But as i said, the money is good, the benefits are great and i'm completely secure. i'm around my hometown with my best friends and family. But still....I know there's something better out there, but this funk of unmotivation has set in.

except for the good benefits thing. and since I dont have my benefits covered, my actual takehome pay is a fraction of what it should be

and to piggyback on the slow economy thing, people expect you to do the same amount of work (and a lot of times more) as what you used to do when the economy was good, for a lot less pay

I wanna start a record company or become a sports writer or do something more fun

how smoky is bada nowadays? I know its non-smoking, but does it still smell like smoke in there?

Allie was talking about coming out to Bada for dinner tonight and bringing Lily Belle along so she can meet some friends (Saps, Danny, Dave, etc. etc.). If its not smokey or too loud then we'll bring her out for a little bit. Allie and Lily will leave after dinner and I'm gonna stay out to drink with the fellers for a while

and bada doesn't smell like anything except chicken now (i've heard non-smokers say the same). sure, right after the smoking ban, you could still smell it, but it's gone now

^ Haven't been to Bada, however, all the clubs and etc that are now non-smoking smell funny. It's like a mix of sweat and dingy carpet. Still better than smoke though.
