Wii Music looks like a fun waste of time for 4 year olds. I mean its obviously going to be compared to Rock Band and GH, and it may take off with the younger audiences. 7/15/2008 1:06:22 PM |

So the very first game on the console, which the main purpose was to teach you the remote, was one of the biggest hits and now has a sequel
lol, love it
good luck finding this package in the next 2 years
oh, I just read what games are in it, and i'm actually not impressed
frisbee golf, jet ski, and sword fighting

Wii Resort will not be available till Spring of 2009, so its plausible to see them holding back newer versions of Zelda or Metroid until E3 next year. Solely on seeing how the new wii-motion does in the market.
Wii Resort was to have more than 3 games correct? I don't see Nintendo going soft on the ridiculous mini-games now. 7/15/2008 1:22:26 PM |

Talk about disappointing. I'm more interested in the 360's lineup than the Wii's, which is pretty sad. You'd think at least ONE major franchise would've been shown. 7/15/2008 1:27:38 PM |

Yeah...oh well. Bunch of fat bastards are playing prevent defense and after all - from a purely business standpoint why wouldn't they? Keep doing what is printing money...but I'd wish they'd take some of that fat loot and invest in segementing their casual business to spin off and separate so they can still cater to more enthusiast and involved gamers with their flagship studios. Any jackass can make mini games and wii party games.
Nowadays te Wii for me is more or less just a machine that I can get my wife and her friends to play when everyone is over to the house for shits and giggles. That's about it. 7/15/2008 2:12:57 PM |

Some insiders are saying that Nintendo only had time for a 1-hour conference. For that reason, they are having a press conference later in private that will debut some more "popular" games.
Why they didn't show those instead, I'll never know. I guess they wanted to show the "new" stuff at the big press conference. 7/15/2008 3:23:46 PM |
ShinAntonio Zinc Saucier 18947 Posts user info edit post |
That might make a little bit more sense. This might be the show Nintendo puts on for the mainstream press who'll lap up the prospect of a new Wii sports, improved motion controller, and using the wii balance board.
Still would've made sense to end on some kind of huge announcement like when they unveiled Twilight Princess a few years back. 7/15/2008 3:33:37 PM |

They said today that the Mario & Zelda teams are working on new games (although didn't specifically say they were Mario or Zelda titles).
But come on, you should expect a lag of a few years between major Mario/Zelda/Metroid titles. The fact that they didn't have anything to show today doesn't mean they're dropping the games that have kept them in business over the years.
Nintendo's always been great about delivering stellar first-party titles, and I really don't expect that to change.7/15/2008 10:36:31 PM |

This is the deep-dish, delicious irony endured by the Nintendo stalwart: to see their platform of choice ascendant, even as their bright God turns his face away. Though it contained very little sustenance for our kind, the presentation was (as is typical) a confident, refined affair. The salvo was not a failure. It was simply aimed elsewhere." |

Yeah, you're right. Let's use the other really big once a year video game conference to announce something that would stimulate conversation about your console and keep people talking about innovative and fantastic you are. Because if you didn't announce, we'd be forced to talk about how your speakers were annoying as shit and obviously don't care about exciting actual gamers anymore.7/23/2008 4:36:15 PM |

Yeah, because E3 is still a "really big once a year video game conference", except that now its really just a relatively small conference that nobody cares about and its mere existance this year is because it used to be big many years ago. There are doubts it will even occur next year. Its the "Oh crap! <Generic Conference> is 2 weeks away . . . throw something together" event of the year.
There are bigger conferences, especially the ones that the companies hold themselves. Nintendo certainly could have had a better show, but once again, developers no longer care about E3.7/23/2008 5:12:13 PM |

Quote : | "E3 Returns in 2009? Will the renowned show have at least one more romp? by Ryan Clements
July 23, 2008 - The 2008 E3 Media and Business Summit has come and gone, along with many mixed feelings about the show itself. Drastically toned down compared to previous showings, this year's E3 was marked with a smaller space, fewer games and fewer companies represented. After a one year relocation to Santa Monica in 2007, E3 returned to its traditional spot at the Los Angeles Convention Center but had nowhere near the impact it once had. Many attendees commented on how drab and desolate the show felt and speculated that 2008 might be the last year for E3.
However, reports have surfaced online that a representative from the Entertainment Software Association has commented that E3 will have at least one more showing next year, though no solid details have been given. We contacted the ESA to confirm these details but a representative was not available. Instead, we contacted the Los Angeles Convention Center and spoke with a booking agent to see what sort of events were taking place next year in July. At the time this article was written, the ESA has not yet booked any space at the LACC, though this could mean a number of things, including an alternate event site or a change in scheduling.
We did discover, however, that a baby convention could be scheduled in July." |

meh. I thought the whole damn show was disappointing. The only game I have any interest in playing whatsoever for the rest of 2008 is Gears of War 2. But that doesn't mean Nintendo's conference was any less pathetic. I've been playing their systems since early childhood, but I seriously feel I'm on the last straw with them. The longer I play their systems, the more stale and uninspired their games feel. The one notable exception to this in recent memory was Super Mario Galaxy. However, I haven't completely lost my faith in them.
Based on what I've read on the new Zelda, it will be the huge evolution I have been looking for. I've been a little skeptical, but given Nintendo's track record, it's sure to blow minds.
I thought the GameCube was disappointing, but I could forgive it because it wasn't an online console and the controller worked like the controllers for the other systems. I could appreciate it because it had a lot of great games, but disappointed me because it didn't seem to have as many good games as the N64.
The Wii disappoints me mainly because it's got such vast potential to kick ass and it isn't being used. The Virtual Console is solid, but it seems like the online aspect, the games, multiplayer, and all the other innovations that were once so mindblowing are coming off underwhelming.
I used to think that the Wii was having the same problem as the DS; that the game developers just hadn't figured out how to make the most of the unique control system and develop interesting games for it. But after seeing their E3 conference this year, I wonder if they are even trying. 7/28/2008 6:26:06 AM |
