Today she came in an hour late (15 minutes late to a department meeting), has taken TWO FUCKING LUNCH BREAKS and has done nothing but fuck around since then.

I am going to stab her in the eyeball...

How do people get away with that at work? Everyone I work with gossips so much, any one who did that on the reg would have been called out awhile ago. Except for the ones who are BFF with the boss.

This old fart that does procurement apparently was out for a week after he fell at his house breaking his arm and wounding his hip. I had to hear him tell the story of how this happened like 20 times to different vendors he's call up.

The amount of people that do not know how to do basic tasks on Excel blows my mind.

How do you not know how to add borders on your cells?

Ask roaming boss for a phone number, and then he decides to stay in the office and have a conversation with my officemate while I'm trying to listen to this old man tell me important information. Come on, son

I ask my work mentor one simple question, and I get stuck with a 30 minute lecture that goes completely off into a tangent.

- coworkers who offer medical advice; even more so when sweeping assumptions are made about others lifestyles

- getting the 'weekend recap' from coworkers on monday mornings... I don't care.

Yeah this girl definitely exaggerated on her resume. There are things she has claimed she's done but is asking the other post-doc how to do such and such. Sad thing is, she has a Masters in genetics and doesn't know how to clone.

I told the post-doc don't tell her anything and be vague. Is this catty? I don't think it's catty. If you're going to lie about your experience, you're gonna be put in the hot seat. Plus, she has two degrees, if she doesn't know, she should be able to figure it out herself.

Instead of being passive aggressive, why not just straight up ask why she can't do things she claimed to know ?

^^i don't really know your position. the way you posted it seemed to me like you were superior to her so it seemed like a logical question. my bad.

i don't like passive aggressiveness in the workplace (or at all), so when i switched position 2 years ago i've tried a fresh approach and ask people to be straight up with me, esp when i can tell they're dancing around what they want to say, and i try to do the same for others. i think it's possible to do so without hurting feelings or stepping on toes.

On paper she has more degrees and experiences than me, and has published quite a bit of first author papers. So I’m actually “below” her. Approaching it your way would be like insulting her intelligence (that’s how I see it anyway). Maybe I am just assuming this, but from past experiences with women ,inside and outside the workplace, no matter how gentle you put it, they seem to take it completely different behind your back.

I’m just a little bit surprised that she doesn’t know how to do something that we’ve( science people) all learned actually in college too. Maybe it’s been awhile for her and needs a little refreshing. But she could also be honest as well and just say that, rather than sit there and lie to the boss, nodding her head.

She'll be fine. That's what we all learned in grad school after taking the preliminary exams-that you're pretty much on your own and have to figure things out yourself. Part of the learning /training process.

i love how acraw criticizes other women who are catty behind your back while at the same time being totally catty herself.

sounds like acraw is jealous of that girls resume and is being catty to protect her territory

I don't understand why it matters? If you're not like on a team with her or counting on her to supply some part of your projects then let her not know what she is doing. She will either figure it out or get da boot.

On the other hand this is the bitching thread and its pretty obvious that you just don't like her in general

And I also love how you guys jump to conclusions about being jealous and territorial here when you may not understanding how the way this particular workplace functions or set up.

I got one.

My work headphones are loud as fuck for everything except g2meeting / skype. I mean I could adjust the volume for individual shit but that would be too much work.

My pandora volume is on like maybe 5%. Windows volume is on 2. Its like just barely not at a distracting volume

the guy in the row behind me is coughing like he is dying every five minutes. the entire. fucking. day. I'm talking heavy coughing and wheezing. When he's not hacking up a lung, he's doing half-coughs trying to control it. And he's been doing it since at least last Wednesday. Seriously, go the fuck home and get better. And, not surprisingly, the two people on my row who are closest to him were out sick today.

People not doing their fucking job.

Also, IT tapping into my computer to install some updates, calling to tell me that they're shutting it down, and doing it without giving me a couple seconds to save my work

Eclipse asks you where you want to save your workspaces. Why didn't you save them in a location you knew would be backed up?

I really hate to harp on the Eclipse thing, but again, if you had saved your workspaces to a location you knew to be backed up, it wouldn't matter if she'd wiped it. You could restore from the backup.

When there is a technical problem with a project, management throws more project managers at the project rather than the appropriate technical resources.

The workspace was in the default location. You'd think the default workspace location for the software program all of IBM uses for java dev would be on IT's list of things to backup but apparently not. Regardless, it's all backed up in CVS, I'm just too lazy to hunt down all the projects.
