I really hope that the good news that we are supposed to be getting here in the next day is that Painter committed. I'm not going to bash Vandenberg, but I think Painter would be an outstanding addition to our team and get a lot of reserve minutes behind Smith. He'd also compliment Howell very well. Howell can bang inside, but is known for his exceptional face up game. A true post presence like Painter would give a lot of flexibility to how our frontcourt could be run. 4/23/2009 6:37:39 PM |

I hope it's not Vandenberg. We don't need another scrub. We need someone who can play next year. 4/23/2009 6:58:55 PM |

he is a HUGE Liability on defense
he is too slow
I'd much rather have Howell and Painter taking his minutes, even Davis.
not to mention he has lost his shooting touch IMO that he had when he was a frosh 4/23/2009 7:28:30 PM |

I think Horner starts at PF to begin the year. His play will determine if he stays in the starting lineup or not. He was playing quite well last year, and we will need his height at the 4 position. A move to the 4 might help him out defensively b/c he won't have to constantly be going up against players that have a clear advantage in speed over him, like when he was at the 3. We will need Javi (or Wall :crosses fingers: ), Brown, and Williams filling in the 1-3 positions.

I dont know why you're rolling your eyes. It's not like this staff has been known to find diamonds in the rough. If your argument is to trust our coaches then I present our record the past 3 years. Like it or not, JV would be a wasted scholarship. I can't believe it is considered good news if we get a recruit over Boise St. 4/23/2009 7:39:45 PM |

So stupid. Who should we play? Davis or Horner? They are both shit piss garbage, and we all know it. It's pretty sad if you take a step back, pull your NC State red goggles off, and look at it objectively. 4/23/2009 7:40:57 PM |

I don't know that Davis is garbage. I'm not even sure if we'll see him play next year unless Horner/Smith/Howell/anybody else needs a break. 4/23/2009 7:42:34 PM |

Well, think about it, we are extremely shallow in the frontcourt and the season hasn't even started. There are bound to be one or two injuries, tweaked ankles at the very least, that cause one of our existing 3 "big men" to lose time. So, somebody like davis getting some PT is not out of the question. We are really going to suck next year, ugh. 4/23/2009 7:54:53 PM |

Horner sucks
I really hope he isnt at the PF spot, he's too tiny and slow to guard that position, tiny i mean light.
Id much rather have a banger like Howell/Davis, especially Painter
and JV isnt as bad as you guys are making him out to be, word is the kid can get up and run the floor and is athletic. 4/23/2009 8:17:41 PM |

Horner is taller than Howell and maybe Davis (I still don't know how tall he is). They're all similar in weight.
I don't think Howell will start, but I could understand if he did. But you want Josh Davis starting over a senior? Really? Horner's not all-world but he's slowly putting things together, I'm sure he'll have a pretty respectable season next year. 4/23/2009 8:25:04 PM |

Davis is somewhere in the 6'5 to 6'7 range. Howell is in the 6'7 to 6'8 range. Horner is 6'9 4/23/2009 9:38:10 PM |

Horner's defense wouldn't be quite as much of a liability at PF, and his perimeter shot might be advantageous, but he's lacking 'power'.
Davis could potentially see sparse PT as a "big", especially given how much he's (supposedly) grown in the last few years. (he avg'd 25/10 at athens. mostly as their "big", i think).
I'm glad Tracy played more down the stretch. Hopefully he's been working on his endurance during the off-season, cause he's going to log a lot of minutes come fall. All-ACC! (2nd team?) 4/23/2009 10:37:18 PM |

I hated Horner as much as anyone the first half of the season last year. I mean, I hated the guy. Three things changed my mind.
1. He got his shooting touch back. He was deadly from 3 the last half of the season ... pretty sure he was shooting well above 50%. I hope this newly-added weight doesn't screw it back up.
2. I realized he gives his all every second he's in there. He was out-playing Costner towards the end of the year, mainly because he was hustling.
3. He stopped the hyper-pumpfake

Yeah, he no doubt still did it. But not every time he touched it like before. The pumpfakes actually seemed to make sense when he did them in the latter part of the year.
I'll never forget the duke game. He literally pump faked when he was WIDE open from three. Insane. 4/23/2009 11:20:50 PM |

ESPNs ratings are odd. 82 seems like it should be above average, but that puts him as the 99th best SF in this class...

Truthfully, not really excited about him. There is a reason why he hasn't gotten many big time offers and is almost impossible to find information on... and it's not because he was playing in Australia (see Ater Majok).
^ but look at the players around him. There is no one at all around who is going to a high-major program... I'm not saying that as an indictment on him, but to ESPNs rating system. It's just strange...
