A few opinions:

1. I think we would be lucky to get Marshall or Smart.
2. Anyone who is logically trying to debate that Coach A would be "better" than Coach B needs to quit the internet. There is honestly no way of knowing this information.
3. The 107 pages of comedy in this thread are great, and I don't know which is funnier; April's fools day links, the BD talk, or the lames who are arguing over the above.
4. While a high profile coach would be nice, we should probably work on our shitty student section, home court advantage, and national reputation. All of these things are equal in importance to a shiny new coach.

^^While I agree with #1-3, I gotta disagree a little with #4. All those things you mentioned need improvement...impossible to argue otherwise. But a winning program fixes those things. We've been shitty for the better part of 20+ years (the exceptions can be counted on one hand) and we've been super-shitty the past 5 years so who can blame the students for being a little ho-hum and the fans for not showing up to watch a sub .500 team. We start winning, which starts with making the right hire, and we've got some damn good fans that will show up and be loud...winning cures everything. But it starts with this hire. At this point, I do not care who we hire...I am excited for the future of the program though.

Don't get me wrong I think he can come in and win however I think he is going to get (at best) Sendek results. Also he will probably never be able to recruit at a level that is comparable to what we have now so I wouldn't be surprised to see him come in and win some games (sweet 16) and then taper off once our current players graduate.
It is funny how so many of you have changed your tune. When Lowe was here everyone was saying how we are a great program and would have a "top tier" coach once yow finally fires him. Now that he is gone a lot of people have changed their tune. Settling for someone that a BUNCH of other programs have passed on is hardly the recipe for a top tier coach.

I don't really remember this being said to be honest. In fact, the consensus was the opposite from what I recall. In any case, that had nothing to do with the fact that Lowe clearly wasn't the answer and needed to go.

Just because the LOUDEST person (milkboner) screamed this doesn't mean "everyone" did.

Well I for one will admit that I grossly overestimated Yow's ability to get an established high-level coach in here. Smart may well turn out to be one (and I'm praying to god that he does, because he's the only guy on our list with that potential), but she struck out horribly on the kind of guys she promised she was going to get. I put way too much of the blame for whiffing on Barnes and Calipari on Fowler before apparently.

Why? We have money. Come back with a $4m/yr offer if they won't take 3. Build whatever facilities they want. Promise to name the court at the RBC after them. Build a statue. Do something to sweeten the deal.
