And didn't the coaches say that his false starts were due to him being faster than everyone else? He wasn't actually moving ahead of the snap, he was just faster than the rest of the players out there? Or did I just imagine that?

didn't Derek Morris shove a coach on the sideline one game? he was a waste of talent. I wonder what he's up to now.

You are correct sir.

I guess a high school football coach is probably the equivalent of a 3.0 gpa, so I'll concede some credibility.

I saw Morris at the Food Lion on Avent Ferry a couple years back. Really nice guy.

Best Derrick Morris moment:

He gets flagged for like his 5th false start (At home I think) in the same game. Ref throws the flag pre-snap. It hits Derrick Morris in the helmet.

Derrick Morris takes a step, picks up the flag, and throws it back at the ref.

I think he got kicked out of the game for that one..or maybe I'm imagining that...?

Anyone remember that?

People need to stop freaking out about our conference ranking. If it makes you feel better, Scout has us ranked 11th above Wake Forest. ESPN counts Hakeem Flowers as a 4-star prospect. Teams like Clemson and Miami always get highly ranked players and then every season somehow find a way to shit the bed.

Stars mean NOTHING

TOB wants 3 star players that he can mold into the players that he needs. All this hype means absolutely dick.

I'm not reading through this entire thread, but what's the deal with this Scott Thompson kid? Rivals has him listed as a 5'11", 220 lb OL. That can't be right, can it? That's got to be a typo, right? He is really a LBor FB, isn't he?

Just curious.

Anyone else notice Sade got bumped down to 20th best kicker on rivals. Hard to believe an Army Bowl participant would be ranked that low.

Its mainly due to the jet stream at Carter-Finley. Earlier this decade a tectonic shift caused a north by northwest wind to blow thru eastern NC during the summer and fall months, making kicking conditions markedly more difficult and causing the scouting services to compensate by downgrading any kicker that comes to State.

Really nice story, will be easy to root for this kid.

Quote :
"Burriss happy for shot at N.C. State

DAYTONA BEACH -- His voice caught in his throat and the tears started to come Wednesday as Tyrrell Burriss contemplated maybe the biggest moment of his young life.

The Mainland football player was standing at a podium in front of dozens of teachers, friends and relatives, announcing his decision to accept a football scholarship to North Carolina State.

It was a moment he wasn't sure would ever come, as only a few programs had offered the senior a scholarship, none as big as the Atlantic Coast Conference school.

But Burriss kept working hard. The kid who head coach Scott Wilson called "a gym rat" never left the weight room and constantly worked to get better.

It is a kid like Burriss who sometimes gets lost in the spectacle of National Signing Day, which can happen when Florida and Florida State are destinations for two of the other six Volusia/Flagler prep stars who signed national letters of intent with Football Bowl Subdivision schools.

But for Burriss, who wasn't guaranteed anything, the tears of appreciation were genuine.

"I hoped this would happen, and I believed it could happen," Burriss said after signing as his proud mother, Princess Elliott, beaming nearby. "Once N.C. State showed some interest in me in October, I kept working hard and hoping they would give me a chance.

"(Wednesday) was just a combination of a lot of emotions up there for me."

Burriss joined two teammates -- defensive back Cortez Davis (who signed with Clemson) and running back Marlin Lane (who signed with Tennessee) -- as FBS signees from Mainland.

Also signing FBS scholarships Wednesday they had long since accepted were New Smyrna Beach wide receiver Raheem Mostert (Purdue), DeLand offensive linemen Trey Pettis (Florida State), DeLand defensive back/running back De'Ante Saunders (Florida) and Pine Ridge linebacker Willie Mitchell (Central Florida).

Both Saunders and Pettis have been at their college for weeks, enrolling early to get a head start on their careers at the next level.

Burriss, a 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back who also had offers from Colorado State and Middle Tennessee State, started for most of two seasons with the Bucs. He made 27 tackles with four pass break-ups last fall, a consistent contributor overshadowed by defensive backfield mate Davis.

N.C. State coach Tom O'Brien said Wednesday he got good reports about his recruit.

"We talked to people in camps that raved about his ability to change directions, and he's got some explosiveness," O'Brien said. "Those are all things that can help us at this level."

Lane's signing with the Volunteers capped a recruiting odyssey that saw him change from Clemson to Tennessee in the past few weeks. He thanked his family and coaches Wednesday for "sticking with me through thick and thin," alluding to a serious knee injury that occurred at the end of his junior year.

And Mostert, who committed in January, said he was "relieved" to finally be able to look ahead to college.

"I can't wait to get up there and get going," Mostert said. "It's such a great opportunity to have, and I'm really excited about it.""

What exactly is so special about that story?? No devastating injuries or family tragedies. He just seems like an average college recruit who is a "gym rat".

I hope he turns out to be an All-ACC type player, but his only other offers were from MTSU and Colorado State. Not exactly big time programs there. As an aside...his team sounds freaking sacked.

i think it's just nice to have a humble kid who appreciates the opportunity he has...he didn't require some huge press conference on espnu or anything

Ha...why would he?? He chose us over MTSU and Colorado State...it's not like ESPN asked him for a press conference. He probably wouldn't even be able to find hats for those schools in a local store to put on a press table.

He's actually a below average recruit for the ACC. He had no other major offers.

I'm not talent evaluator (shit, I haven't even seen any highlights or measurables for this guy)...but these types of recruits are why we are at the bottom of the ACC in the recruiting rankings.

I personally don't give a shit as long as we win games, but people like to say "rankings don't matter" but then when we actually have a highly ranked class, they'll act like it's a big deal and it's gonna make us a champion some day.

I missed this about Nate from a few days ago:

Quote :
"Wanting more
We were disappointed in the burst NC State LB Nate Irving showed when they brought him up with the D-linemen in pass-rushing drills. We wanted to see more of him as a pass-rusher, something he did at NC State, but he didn't show great burst and wasn't violent or quick enough working back inside when he tried to redirect. Also, he was stiff in space, and had a hard time moving around and changing directions. He's not a player teams should feel comfortable asking to match up with quicker running backs because he'll get exposed in coverage."

for those of you shitting on my story, and you know who you are, i didn't say the guy was gonna come in and get his number retired by spring training. Look at Earle Wolffe, dude was offered in junior camp, was a 2* and was 2nd or 3rd on the team in tackles, last half of the season he started really sacking the QB. I was simply moved by how hard he's worked to earn a scholarship and it obviously made him happy enough to cry... that's all. take your RAWR somewhere else.
