Hopefully last night put to bed any lingering discussions about the kids who didn't grow up here. One was our best player (who works harder game after game than anyone in the program) and the other scored a memorable goal.. 6/17/2014 7:25:16 AM |

Guess we are waiting on news now for Jozy and if he is able to go anymore in this tournament. Luckily Portugal seems in total disarray and will be missing several key players it appears. Ronaldo seems like he has no interest in playing a team game so if we can just contain him and find a goal or two I think we can get a win from them as well. 6/17/2014 8:55:43 AM |

Make no mistake about Portugal. They are still a very good team and we will have to put in a much better display than we did yesterday. Portugal's close control and finishing is a lot better than Ghana's. Germany is just a better team, Portugal still has more than enough talent to beat us.
That said we have heart and we have Klinsmann! So let's do this shit! 6/17/2014 8:57:59 AM |

Very true I guess just based on watching the two games I now feel like getting 3 points there is possible rather than just hoping for a draw. We obviously have a lot to work on because we couldnt hold any sort of meaningful possession for most of that game. Against any semblance of decent offense it is going to result in a goal just like last night.
I think it will take at least 2 goals go get the win if not 3, but for that to happen we are going to have to adjust our play to no Jozy and Bradley has got to play much better because he sets up the offense so much better when he is on. 6/17/2014 9:04:47 AM |

It seemed like there should have been many more fouls and yellow cards called last night.
While Ghana is extremely athletic, they also play an extremely out of control style in jump ball situations and on defense, tackling from behind. They just run over people and don't get called for it. That guy with last name that started with an M was a repeat offender in that regard. 6/17/2014 9:59:41 AM |

In terms of our playing style last night, I thought that when the game was tied, we actually played a pretty good possession game and created some good looks.
Where we couldn't hold possession was when we were ahead, and there was a clear cause for that (they played more aggressively in midfield and with possession - and we played less aggressive offensively and more reserved to make sure they didnt get runs ahead of us). 6/17/2014 10:02:32 AM |

I feel like a lot of calls when Ghana's way last night. We had one bad call go our way towards the end of the game and I remember being like..."it's about fucking time."
Would also like to add that if you get the chance, go out to a busy bar and watch the game with a ton of your fellow countrymen. I'm all for watching games from the comfort of your own home (I pretty much refuse to watch NC State play in public....for various reasons)...but there's nothing like the camaraderie of watching the US play with a bunch of strangers/friends and celebrating goals scored. Just do it. 6/17/2014 10:05:46 AM |

I don't know, it looks like he is off balance more than anything. Not getting a card for clearly going after JJ when they were both on the ground doesn't make sense to me. I thought he may not have seen it or that JJ probably did something shitty on the way down, but after seeing the replay the ref was right there and it doesn't look like JJ does anything to provoke him.

Jones definitely came down on top of his head with his feet (intentionally, IMO). They both got their licks in and it should have been over after that. The Ghana player, however, retaliated last and I thought he would at least have gotten a yellow for it. 6/17/2014 11:13:40 AM |

everything you say is true there, but you fail to mention that jones intentionally keeps his legs wrapped around his head and give him a pull, to which muntari retaliates... of course, jones was retaliating to the dirty tackle to begin with. 6/17/2014 12:18:11 PM |

^^ That is not what Bullet is saying he did.
He clearly left his right leg on his head longer than he could have but his other leg is nowhere close to being wrapped around his head. He was leaving a little extra on him after getting taken out from behind but there's no way you could describe his actions like Bullet did. I don't even know how that could be considered an opinion.

I'm saying that it looked like his actions might have been somewhat intentional, or that he surely didn't do anything to stop getting him in the back of the head (you're getting into silly semantics when you're picking apart my "legs wrapped around his head". I didn't mean he literally got him in a choke hold with his legs or anything, i meant he kept his legs on both sides of his head longer than he needed to and surely did nothing to avoid the extra contact. And I agree, no excuse for muntari's retaliation. and i also agree, pointless argument. My bad Ribs, carry on with your serious internet postin'. (and i wasn't calling you arrogant, Volcom)

It is not the norm, but it happens and it's not like he didn't have citizenship.

I know Portugal looked awful against Germany, but I feel much worse about coming out of this game with point than I did looking at the group to start with.
Portugal is going to be desperate, we're looking at probably no Altidore and a banged up Dempsey. That's not a great recipe for a lot of offense. 6/17/2014 11:42:56 PM |
