so is Rooney going to grow a beard, by a winnebago, and live out the rest of his days in a dilapidated campsite?

Kudos to both teams on not diving though.

I can't remember seeing one De Rossi/Torres type of instance this match.

Rooney might punch Becks in the face if tries to console him.

Great result.

The Germans move on and we'll have replay at the next Cup.

I too am pulling for Germany now that the US is out since I also trace back to german origins. Was even better to watch them embarrass england haha. Mexico would be the easier team for them, but I cant help but hope for an Argentina Germany matchup as that should be pretty entertaining.

Try 90, close though!

It's not really bandwagoning if I've been following them since I started watching soccer like 12 years ago, but whatevs!

^yeah he did. he didn't cross the racism line, because he probably wasn't sure if he should say "african-american" or "black." as a non-native, he probably doesn't know which is the more PC label.

but honestly, it sounds like he has a plan. he may not be the coach, but it sounds like he should be in the US federation at some level.

they won't be outraged. he didn't say anything wrong.

but, he has a really good point. in the US, for a long time now, soccer has been a sport for privileged kids. and usually, that's not where you find athletic talent. the US team has always lacked creativity, because it is a team full of kids who grew up doing cone drills and other fundamentals to compensate for raw talent.

imagine if our soccer team consisted of every nfl punt returner. If they had played soccer for years, we'd be untouchable. We'd be by far the fastest and strongest team in the world.

Well if you could get paid $20,000,000 to be a striker in the MLS instead of a wide receiver in the NFL, I'm sure the people would line up out the door.

how do you miss that goal? what the fuck refs...it was way over the line. there has to be some sort of change in the system next world cup cause obviously the refs cant cut it. the amount of missed calls and the importance of them is gettin a bit out of hand

^ this world cup's been pretty flukey with the calls, but i can't recall any other major tournaments where the officiating on the whole has been this bad. i'm doubting anything will change, except for the personnel.

^^It needs some sort of hawkeye technology like tennis has. A 4th official could see the ball cross the line and say goal in a matter of seconds. It wouldn't take multiple minutes like in NFL football. If the 4th official can't tell with in 5 seconds then the refs call stands.

Today they said that FIFA made a statement "We don't want to use goal line technology because it can't be used at grass roots levels." Even pro tennis only has hawkeye technology on some courts. High school soccer here in NC uses 2 center refs and no lines men because of a ref shortage.

not too mention that FIFA refs use headsets to communicate.

FIFA got bailed out by Germany in the second half of today's game to avoid a major scandal. They need to be proactive to ensure this doesn't happen again.

the game would be 2-2 though, and england wouldnt be pushing nearly as many men forward as they were while losing in the 2nd half...it wouldve and shouldve been an entirely different game. but we'll never know how it shouldve ended, and imo, someone or some party needs to lead a regime to oust this current board and/or sepp blatter.

im really tired of fifa taking pride in the controversy they continuously let happen while doing nothing about it

they'll do something about it. we'll have goal line technology by the next cup. i'm sure of it. the voices of the english supporters will be too loud to ignore. i don't think we'll see any replays (and i hope we don't) but some type of technology (like tennis) will surely be implemented.

while i'll agree that 2-2 at half is a completely different game, germany thoroughly outclassed england today and deserved to move on. england has fallen short of their own expectations. today's result is no different.

and if i see this stupid messi/maradona animated crap one more time.....

to be fair to the linesman, he was in the right spot

and that's when you know something has to be done. When the officials are all doing their jobs correctly and it just isn't possible for them to get the call right.

^agreed. maybe you just add an official behind each box? or in the booth?

many of these errors could probably be corrected with just having more eyes on the game.

I still can't get over England's WC. I was a little skeptical of them going into the tournament but wow, they looked pitiful. And the answer isn't just "Rooney didn't show up," they were not good anywhere

I see in some of the rumors that Milner might hand in a transfer request. Villa would be an awesome place for Michael Bradley

they have talked about adding an official behind each goal specifically for this kind of scenario as well as watching all the pushing, shoving, grabbing etc. going on in the box and I would be totally for that. It doesn't interrupt the flow of the game but still could improve it. Like you guys said, the linesman was in the spot he was supposed to be in, but just couldn't be in two places at once.
