Yeah, I never pegged Nintendo as the type of company that would software disable hardware features. That seems like a Sony/Microsoft move to me, which I guess is why I didn't expect it from Nintendo. I wonder what motivation they have for that.

"Nintendo Already Anticipating Holiday Wii Shortages

As we approach the holiday season, Nintendo has already said that they don't expect to keep up with demand for the Wii console. In an interview with the LA Times, Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime said they're ramping up production by 33% already, with further increases planned. They're hoping to avoid the scarcity of Wii's that occurred last year, which cost them a great deal of money in potential sales. "We're now producing 2.4 million units a month worldwide. Last year, we made 1.6 million a month. So we've made a 33% increase. One of our competitors projects they will sell 10 million consoles worldwide this year. For us, that's three months of production. We're producing an unprecedented level of hardware to try to meet demand.""

This is getting ridiculous

you can play the game sitting down and being lazy. the only time you need to use the wiimote is to point at the screen to throw a boomerang to break something.

I haven't installed the newest version of the HBC yet. To those that have, will the SDHC cards work outside the channel? Or are the only functional within the launched HBC? Just wanting to know, for example, games that play mp3 off the card while you are playing the game would still be compatible for the SDHC.

I'm deciding between getting one of the 16gig SDHC or just buying one of the standard SD cards with 4 gigs and just use that.

I wonder if any of the applications that allow you to load stuff from a usb drive would work with a usb external hard drive. I don't have one so i can't currently test the idea out, but if it could be done it would be awesome for movies.

Does the new version of the homebrew channel work for anyone? I downloaded it last night, and now all I get is the splash screen. Never makes it past there.

I downloaded the version they had up on Sunday and it seems to work, so unless yours is newer than that it should be good, but my wii doesn't have the latest updates, its firmware is about 3 months old, so its possible they've blocked something.

From what I can tell, as long as you already have the homebrew channel, nintendo can't (or at least hasn't yet) disabled it

Firstly, you need to look up the definition of complain, because I did no such thing.

Secondly, What does one thing have to do with the other? Because I have a mod chip in my Wii, that means I can't discuss the hardware?

wondering about their motives is complaining, and installing software on an appliance you own is stealing. You are clearly evil.

I have tried using my 320gb external hd via the usb but the app froze up. my 4gb flash drive works fine, i have heard of a 160gb working, might just be a limit on size/#of files

he already told everyone on this forum he stole: he downloaded and burned fable 2, numbnuts

the irony is that a thief is complaining about--or rather, "questioning the motives of"??--the companies that he steals from

he's the reason that the games I legally purchase cost $59.99

but what does that have to do with this thread? I just don't like it when I'm talking about something and someone side tracks everything so they can argue with someone. PM him if you want to argue about something you personally don't like that has nothing to do with the rest of us.

No, its that price because you will buy the game for $59.99. If you want to get more complicated, its also because 360/PS3 users demand cutting edge "ZOMG GRAPHICS" which increases development time and costs.

Pirates shouldn't steal games like they do, but they are hardly the reason for price increases. They make an easy scapegoat for developers, though.

So now you're the self-proclaimed internet police? Again, I'm really failing to see how pirating games makes me unfit to discuss hardware.

You need to add irony to your list of words to look up the definition for. Also, since when does Nintendo make Fable II? I must have missed that memo.

Quote :
"he's the reason that the games I legally purchase cost $59.99"

Bullshit. If a game is worth $60 I'll buy it. I bought and paid for GTA IV, Force Unleashed, Rock Band and Rock Band 2. After I illegally downloaded copies of them and tried them out, of course. I considered purchasing Fable II and then immediately returning it but the store I went to was out of all but the Collectors editions and that would have cost me almost $40 to buy and then sell back. That game wasn't worth it to me. The simple fact remains that I don't play games that much these days. Every so often I like to download and try out the latest greatest, but for the most part most of the games they put out these days don't even interest me enough to waste $2 on a dual layer DVD. I'm not costing companies any money because if piracy wasn't an option for me, I simply would do without.

Don't try and act like you know me, and the next time you try to troll me you better come with a lot more than "OMG, He downloaded Fable II, he costs me money." Weaksauce all around.

This deserves the rolly-eye

Complete [fail], games have always been around the $59.99 mark. You were just spoiled last gen when they were 49.99.

I remember Mario 3 was like $55 new when I bought it, Super NES and N64 games were around 59.99. I can remember Perfect Dark selling for close to $70 when it first came out.

More often than not, I'll go to Ruth's Chris and get their most expensive steak. Usually I pay for it, but sometimes I decide it's not worth it and I just leave. Regardless Ruth's Chris stays in business so I have no impact on their industry.

no. you see in your analogy if you try a steak and leave it without paying, the industry looses one steak. If you steal a game you would have bought then they loose a potential sale. But if you try a game and don't buy it, and you wouldn't have bought it unless you got to try it, they weren't going to make a sale in either case and they loose nothing.

But this is beside the point, i have the homebrew Chanel and I use it to play homebrew games and video files, it's not strictly for pirating software.

it's not "trying", it's "having". legally in order to "have" things--steaks, intellectual property, etc--you pay for them. just because it's easier to steal intellectual property doesn't make it any less of a lost sale.

of course you can say "well I wouldn't have bought the game anyway" after you played a game you didn't like. pirates love using that argument. I guess they never really like anything!

you could also say "well if I knew that steak was going to be bad I wouldn't have ordered it".

I guess only us suckers end up with games we wish we didn't buy... or movies we didn't like... or food we didn't enjoy

i would not buy a game like "call of duty" because I wouldn't play it enough to be worth it.

if i downloaded and burned a copy and played it occasionally, I have benefitted and the game manufacturer did not lose anything. If a friend came over and played the game, they might decide they wanted to buy it, giving free advertisement.

WIN MOTHER FUCKING WIN

and the manufacturer didn't gain anything, either...

as for your friend, maybe he buys it.

or your friend just pirates it too and nobody buys the game.

I don't see why it's so difficult to understand why piracy of digital media is stealing. if it was really a good market strategy to give games away for free and then ask for donations, why don't they do it? are they stupid?

Anyone heard of this game Deadly Creatures coming out for the Wii in a few months? Apparently Billy Bob Thorton and Dennis Hopper are offering up their voices for it. You play as a tarantula or a scorpion going through a miniature world fighting other insects and snakes and crap. The videos and pictures looked pretty cool.

Anyone try the new Tales game yet? I'm about 1.5 hours in and its just 'alright' so far. It takes so long to get into. The main frustrating factors are:

1. Soooooooooooooo much dialog. And dialog isn't always bad, its just . . . the main kid is fairly whiney, very annoying, and has a forced "quiet" tone to him. In battle, though, he bucks up and his voice literally changes. You go from whiney and annoying (voiced by the same guy who did the main kid on Evangelian) to strong and cocky (voided by the same guy who does Ichigo on Bleach).

I am hopeful that the dialog ramps down after a while.

2. Not as much freedom. The main world is no longer open. Its a simple "choose-your-destination" and immediately go there type of situation. There aren't nearly as many objects to inspect (I have found 2 so far).

3. The begining is slow. There are many forced tutorials, whereas the original just threw you in and you learned it as you went.

4. Trainable Monsters. Could be interesting eventually, but right now they are just little meat shields who aren't as effective as players.

5. Combat . . . its a mixed bag. Its about as fluid as the first Symphonia, but you can now run freely if you choose to. This is good to help get into a better position, but it comes at a cost. The screen auto-compensates for where all people are. So instead of leaving Player 1 as the horizontal and having others compensate, the screen rotates and I keep getting disoriented. Maybe there is a setting to change that . . .

Also, you are much more punished in this game if you simply run into all skirmishes.

I'm hoping combat gets better as I go along.

-------

Overall, I'm hopeful it just has a slow begining and things pick up once I actually get a party together.

well that and of course Wii Sports

this Wii, though it might be old, is still too advanced for me, coming from the NES generation

The new Animal Crossing is pretty awesome so far.

I don't think you can change the day/time on this one or at least I haven't figurd that out yet.

The towns aren't in quadrants anymore (like C-3)...its just one screen, no more switching between quadrants.

The "town items" that seem to be missing from this game are: the dump and the police station. no more free dump items or lost and found

You can take the bus into the city where you can buy clothes, see a movie or visit the Happy Room Academy office.

OH and the best thing....no more having to go into your inventory to switch out equipment (like shovel, bug net etc)...you just push the + button on the wiimote and it switches it out for you.
