wolf... The database is wrong according to some of the experts. Apparently, Dixon is the only coach on the staff who really wants Patterson. I don't think Florida had given him a firm offer either, he wanted UF but they never returned the interest which is why he has been all over NC State the last few months. I've heard Patterson was overrated before his injury as well, but who really knows.

We've got some WRs in this class already. I think Preston Parker would be the only one we take. I'd like to see us get Patterson though, he's also one hell of a student.

ah...

Well we should offer him anyway...especially if he's smart to boost our team rating under those new rules

yeah, like jm said... scout.com (and rivals) are often off when they report offers. Sometimes kids claim them when they're more of a "wait and see" offer.

There's also a big difference between an offer and a "commitable offer". I think Miami is playing the waiting game on Parker... and if that's the case, I hope we can somehow steal him. I just don't see it happening.

Also, like he said. This class isn't as highly touted as our others, but we've got a lot of solid players in it. It's the weakest class in N.C. since I've been following recruiting, so it's not as if we got blown out of the water. Also keep in mind stars are quite ridiculous sometimes.

Of all of our recent stars... how many were 4* or better. Rivers? Cotch? Harris? Locklear? Holt(s) ? K-Rob (Think he may have been a 4?), Reid, Maddux, Hudson, A-Dub...etc...etc.

None of which were highly touted. We've had a lot of highly touted players to become nothing. I think Chuck has an amazing eye for talent, and although we missed on quite a few, I thikn we've got a solid class of players who will develop into a good group.

The only thing that irks me about this class is lack of OLinemen. A few more LB's and D-Linemen (DE's) wouldn't be bad either. We need about 3-4 OLinemen per year, ever year, IMO

I agree, on both. From the sounds of it, Patterson really wants to run with the Pack. I hope he gets an offer.

- while i agree this year's state talent hasn't been the best, we did get blown out of the water in in-state recruiting.

^you're right, but just for conversation, we coulda had #6 up there in a heartbeat and probably still could if Chuck would offer him. Apparently, OC wanted to come to NC State really really badly but he couldnt get us to offer him. The only reason I would guess is because of grades...I went to the same high school as him and the word is that he's retarded, but I've heard conflicting stories about that lately. Originally he was Hargrave bound, but now i think he's qualifying. He's played football and basketball for 4 years, and he's still playing basketball right now, so I seriously doubt grades are an issue at this point.

Just food for thought. I wouldnt read too much into it, but it does make you wonder why we havent offered him...especially this year.

....he's also started at QB for 4 years...and plays DB...just a little more info for you.

I believe the biggest issue with OC was that he really wants a shot at quarterback in college. I don't think this is something that we're willing to give him a "fair" shot at, and therefore, we won't offer him unless he'd agree not to play QB. That's just my impression of the situation, by no means based on fact or anything. Also, getting grades to be eligible to play sports in high school isn't a big deal. What happens to these kids is, they have the minimum GPA to be eligible for sports in high school, then they have to have a HUGE SAT/ACT score to counteract that for college eligibility with the sliding scale.

^the grade thing though, dont you think if he were in danger of not qualifying that he would take the semester off from sports to try to bring his grades up and SAT score up? I see no reason for him to keep playing basketball if he needs to have good grades.

On the other hand, he might already know he's not qualifying, so he's saying fuck it...I'm playing basketball.

oh, and UVa made it clear that they wanted him as a DB, so I dont think us giving him a fair shot at QB had anything to do with it. I just dont think Chuck wanted him...also, there may be some character issues that we dont know about. I only went to school with him for a year, so I dont know.

Eh, maybe so. I still don't mind it that much. I would have loved to land Spikes, Deunta, Johnson... maybe Butler... but other that that..meh.

4* guys in North Carolina would be 2* guys in Florida most of the time. I really don't know how much focus we put on NC this year...especially considering how much toolbaggery goes on with North Carolina coaches pushing thier players to UNC

*scout.com is now showing M.Patterson as not getting an offer from NC State.

*Rumors are flying about an very positive in-home Chuck had with Aleric Mullins

No way we get Aleric Mullins

I mean, you're not the first person I've heard say we have a shot.... but I'm sorry, the East Wake coaches will never let it happen IMO.

I really really hope I'm wrong, I just think if he stays in state he'll be a Heel

Totally guessing on this one, I just know East Wake coaches are super-biased towards UNC

^I agree with you

but over on Statefans there are some very positive insinuations going on, not with Mullins specifically, but just some positive vibes!

phish,

I know there are rumblings of a "suprise" or two.

What makes everyone think it's Mullins? Am I missing something? I mean, he really is a plausible candidate for them, but like I said, I just can't see it.

Then again, I thought the same thing about Pressley up until signing day.

[Edited on January 31, 2006 at 11:30 AM. Reason : okay, on second glance...it's not directed at Phish. What makes you others think it's mullins]

i'm thinking this is the reason why we don't play unc as well as we should every year. players just don't get up for this game the way they do when we play fsu.

CarZin should create the "Official" thread so there aren't a dozen people scrambling to make it first.

CarZin, please create an "Official NC State LOI Thread 2/1/2006" or something to that effect...whenever it gets close enough to the time for it to start of course...

Yeah, I tend to talk shit about him... but he at least **tries** to be unbiased when posting on Statefans or whatnot, and he most definetely doesn't push kids to attend UNC

He seems to be a nice enough guy I guess

yeah, if miller has something good to say about us or i should say HAS TO say something good about us, it usually seems like its against his will and means it's got some pretty good legs. So I "could" expect some surprises , but like i said i'm not expecting anything so tomorrow will be fun

We'll get Augustin, Cook, and maybe one or two guys we don't really know much about (JUCO/ I'm guessing a transfer Hannah). W. Young went to the same HS as Cook and supposedly Cook's girl goes ( is going) to school around here. Never count a guy out until he says he's going somewhere....in other words the coaches mis-speak from time to time.

wow, maybe this Hannah thing has legs. Tomorrow he'll decide between UNC and NCSU.

a) UNC doesn't have a scholly (Not that it would stop Bunting)
b) His parents went to NC State

Supposedly his father said he's all but UNC bound about a week ago... but who knows. I doubt he'll let his son go there if he's a true wolfpacker.

I just hope we don't place him at TE. Hannah is a OL all the way. (And I'm still not too excited about getting him.... he never impressed me despite being a 4 star player)

If we get him, that is.

Hope you're right about Cook. Looks like you might be
