Went to 286 today, which was fun and beautiful (tho quite muddy). Fixing that shifter gives the car a totally new feel. Well that and 4 new bearings up front. Ahh. It was good to drive the ol' beast again. Got a wave from a fellow in a black 997. T'was very refreshing. But then I waved at a boxster behind it. It was a woman driver so I got nothing in return but a confused look. silly me to think a Boxster owner (and a female one at that) would appreciate a "Hello" from a friendly Porsche enthusiast.

New Brake M/C and Clutch M/C Kit:

Oh yeah, I got a set of Wilwood stickers with 'em too I'm still waiting on my firewall adapter plate... I hoping to get that within a week or so...

Manual Steering Rack:

Seller said that the tie rods were in good shape... They are worn, so they'll be replaced before I install. I considered replacing the OEM Rubber bushing for the two mounts with Derliin, however they aren't in bad shape and I could use the $170 for other things at this point. I figure I'll open the rack up and re-grease it, put new boots on it, clean/repaint the surface rust on the rack, and then I'll swap it in.

ahh progress...

why you gotta be like that...?

lol i keed. That's in the works. I'm still debating which headers to get, but yeah, that'll be done relatively soon. I read today that a guy used Pacesetter headers for a '96 vette without any modifications... As it stands now, any header I get, shorty or mids, will require modification on the driver's side. If this guy is right about what he's claiming, then I may have found what I want.

Eh... I'm debating about those damn pacesetters... They are ~$250 for the set... They are 1.625" primaries to 3" collectors... I've got 1.625" primaries going to 2.5" collectors. I don't want to replace the the custom y pipe because of the larger collectors... I thought about getting a 3" to 2.5" reducer, but I don't know how I feel about that performance wise (I'm not educated enough in this fluid dynamics stuff, so if someone knowledgeable wants to chime in on their thoughts...) Plus, I can do without those damn emission test pipes. Sure, I can just plug the bungs, but they bother me Maybe I'll just deal with it...

The less custom work, the better/cheaper.

This is the "style" header that I can use/fit with little to no modification:

Just about every other header style on the market as been tried by the hybrid community and they all have steering shaft clearance issues...

damn man, $250 for the set?! Why can't I find anything that cheap for the S2000, let alone the Integra

if your current exhaust system is 2.5, the 3"-2.5" reducer will not be a deal breaker performancewise , and chances are those are some pretty cheap items to obtain (to match the headers).

If I were closer I would offer my services for exhaust mods, alas, I am not.

Pacesetter Rx-7 headers are notorious for cracking, you get what you pay for...

^ Yeah, I've heard hit and miss reports on Pacesetter headers... I refuse to go back to sanderson. I found a set of Patriots that might do the trick.

http://www.jegs.com/i/Patriot-Exhaust/737/H8052-1/10002/-1?parentProductId=

So what if they are truck headers... As long as they work and are reliable... I've never heard anything bad about Patriot headers...

so i just read the thread.. cause i have been absent from tww for well about 2 years now and saw that those were clearly not ls1 headers i said hey maybe i should read before i assume you're an idiot. Sure enough the project shifted to an lt1 somewhere in there and it all made sense.

This message brought to you by the read before you troll foundation.

pacesetter stuff for the ltx/lsx is actually pretty decent. screw shorties though, if you can cram some long tubes in that's by FAR the way to go and what will get you noticeable gains.

what's this thing weigh anyway? ~3k?

I need to get it scaled, but yeah, I'm guessing 3k.

Longtubes would have to be custom made for the driver side from about where the collector would be for a shorty to allow crossmember/motor mount upright/steering shaft clearance. Passenger side has a decent amount of room, so I'm sure it's possible to find one that fits without modifications. I got a quote for custom long tubes are they were $Texas.

This is a matter of keeping the cost reasonable. I'd love to go with 2.5" true duals all the way back, but there's money to be spent elsewhere (ie: track time, suspension and safety equipment, etc...). I just really want to get this thing to a few auto-x events this year. I told myself last year I would track this car this year and I'm going to hold myself to it.

Those Patriots are really close to my current Sanderson dimensions, so it should be relative easy with swapping the old set in with a new...

Took a long time to get here, but finally! The firewall reinforcement/adapter plate for the 944... At the end to the right is a billit clevis for the clutch master pushrod.

So yeah. My Porsche is slow. I mean, I know there's some power loss considering the driver side header is shot. I spotted another 3" crack where the primaries meet the collector. Anywho. So gather around for story time ladies and gents.

So this guy in a silver S2k rolls up on me. I think to myself, "Cute car..." Anyways. He eggs me on for a couple of minutes, and I decide, aww what the hell. I should be able to beat him...

We start at 60mph, I drop it to 4th, he drops it into 3rd. We go. I immediately pull on him slightly. I mean, like, I was going about 1 or 2 mph faster than him, which kinda shocked me. Maybe it's because I got a 0.25 second jump on him or something, I don't know. I glance over and notice his headlights are barely moving backwards. I think to myself,"Damn really? That's it? That's all this car can do?" As we hit 90 I see him drop back, tires screaming in a desperate attempt to regain traction after he shifts into 4th. I got a good 2 carlengths on him, and continued to widen the gap as I approached 105.

My car in 4th is no faster than an s2k in 3rd, which is a horrible thing for me to think about. But alas, GG oh silver s2k. I hope I have humbled your journey to the great destination.

I know for a fact a stock 240hp s2k isnt faster or even close. We can replicate your humbling experience anytime you need an ego boost. A car with 130ftlbs doesnt break the tires loose on he highway period.

Haha. I was thinking maybe it was turbo'd or something, however, I never heard the blow off valve, turbo whine, nothing. Maybe I mistaken the tire squeel for the BOV, or maybe the noise was a combination of both... Something I didn't consider... Makes sense. Either way, twas fun.

Yeah, I just looked at a stock AP2 Dynograph. 192 rwhp stock? Really? I woulda thought for sure at least 200, maybe a little more... Not less than 200. That car had to be turbo'd.

w/e. I'm ready to get this plate welded in, the new M/Cs installed, and some numbers slapped to the side of the car for some track time.

The F22C usually puts down exactly 200WHP.

Most turbo s2ks I see put down 400WHP. He would have walked all over you.

My bet is a blower @7psi ~300whp

How fast IS your car?

And yeah, he didn't make tire noise unless he mis-shifted or hit the brakes. Not too many rwd cars can break the rear tires loose at 80+mph from power. 650hp isn't enough on a Corvette, shifting like an idiot not withstanding...

Other than RJ's Custom Exhaust on Capital Blvd, where else would one recommend getting custom mandrel bent exhaust work done?
