Before the bashing starts, this was just me trying a few things on photoshop, I REALLY REALLY REALLY ENJOY THIS THREAD, you guys have some excellent work out there, please keep going with the pics
Is there any specific website or books that you guys used to gain that kind of photography/photoshop knowledge?
Can that picture be made any better?

^^nice shots! how long was the exposure on the fountain? also, did u use a telephoto lens for the building pic? i dig 'em.
^what kinda camera did u use? are u going for the black/white/grayscale look?

thanks man
actually the building was a crop of a shot I took with a rather wide angle, 18mm.
the fountain was .25 seconds exposure I believe, unfortunately it was so bright anything above that felt too washed out. i'd be curious to know how i could have exposed that shot better, and still had the water looking fluid/glowing rather than frozen/stationary.
i like these shots a touch more:

some people fishing in the East River:

hey PimpinHonda, glad ya like the thread -- to answer your question:

If you were to take the same shot, but with with a lens that does not have as much of a depth of field, and you were able to stand at the right place to get the Audi in focus, but the background out of focus (but still clearly a lake), it could look interesting.
OR, you could get a little lower to the ground, which would raise the horizon, but could make the car look more powerful, and less wimpy (its currently fairly small in the frame, and its being looked down upon by the camera).
As far as making that exact image file better, if you were able to post an original, right out of the camera, I'm sure we could all offer suggestions or take a crack at it. As it stands now, the dimensions are tiny, and anything put in your TWW gallery gets automatically compressed further (which I'm sure ya knew).
Good luck man!

That photo kind of jumped up on me, and the moment was over as soon as it began. I tried to get these kids dancing at a beach music concert I was covering, but I had a couple of settings off on my camera. It could've been nice.

by the way, which prime lens should i purchase? i don't own any, but ideally i'd like to start with something that's under $180, if that's at all doable... any suggestions?
thanks

^nice man --
i like how orange the hitachi truck is, and the exterior shot of harrelson is really flattering of the building's shape, nice shot!
i picked up a used polarizing lens today for $12 from B&H during lunch, its so hectic down there on 34th street, i didn't get a chance to really shoot anything yet to test the difference.
but why does my office look and feel like the depths of hell?

^ Thanks man...the orange was what attracted me to those shots as well, escp. contrasting to the blue truck beside it. It also symbolizes the never-ending construction happening here
And yeah, as much as we all hate Harrelson, pictures of it really make it look appealing! 5/18/2006 1:05:09 AM |

ronny: nice, i feel like i get a little noise at 1600, but that shot looks solid
woodfoot: why don't ya shoot anymore
also: i just picked up a 50mm prime and a neutral density filter, but i can't seem to get any time off of work to actually shoot anything... at least the weekend is quickly approaching!

i hear you man - i dont have it at the moment for photography, but sometimes its tough to design
Quote : | "I like the hair dryer photo." |
thanks man how many MP is your camera? i can't figure out why a lot of my shots come out more "matter of fact" than yours, i mean, yours tend to have better depth (but i realize we're talking about a ton of factors at play).

Mine is 8.2 megapixel. I shoot wide open most of the time, which is why there is usually decent bokeh (which I am assuming is what you're referring to when you say yours are more "matter of fact") 5/22/2006 1:09:22 AM |
