I do think she is lying, but just cause a bunch of people think that you are lying there has to be some evidence that she is lying. By evidence i mean more than her story doesnt add up, I'm talking admissions. There is enough physical evidence to support the possibilty that she was attacked which means you get no bank.
What conduct from Nifong do you believe to be unethical, i am talking specifics. and i'm not saying that he didnt do anything wrong I am just looking for pointed examples 4/20/2006 12:52:13 AM |

well I'm going to bed now, but the fact that he is trying his case in the media is a big one. He gave over 70 interviews before any indictments were handed down. And the timing of the case, right before an election in which he is being challenged, is very very suspicious.
With the near-total want of evidence in this case, any prosecutor with any sense would drop it. The fact that he is not dropping it, combined with the timing of the case right before the election, should leave an extremely bad taste in the mouth of any Bar Overseer.
Quote : | "There is enough physical evidence to support the possibilty that she was attacked " |
Of course there is physical "evidence." IF you were a woman and were planning to ruin a guy's life by falsely accusing him of rape, would you go to the cops with no "injuries"?

the whole perjury thing was about Nifong when it was being discussed
^^ the point is that since there is enough physical evidence to support the claim the players wont win a lawsuit becasue just because they dont get convicted

Not if it's clear that she made the injuries up herself. And even if by some extreme leap of faith they believe that she actually did get injured, the accused THESE people and there is no evidence that THESE people did it. So they could still recover. 4/20/2006 1:08:33 AM |

How often women lie about rape? How often a DA who needs to win an election sticks tenterhooks into something sensational the months before? How often race becomes a bigger deal than the alleged crime? I think that's going to be really difficult to answer because the media will report the most frivolous thing they can find if there aren't any real news stories. I don't think this would have received so much glaring national attention if this happened in March 2003.
If you remember back to October of last year when a girl accused a guy of raping her the first thing TWW had to say about it was that she had sex and regretted it. I don't know how race played into that one but because it was two NCSU kids it wasn't on CNN for weeks. 4/20/2006 7:15:10 AM |

I know men are, but are women allowed to legally consent if they've had anything to drink? Even if this quote is right it could still be technical rape since there are different standards for men and women when it comes to drinking. (also in addition to women not being coherent enough to give consent while men are, in the eyes of the law no man has ever been or can be raped- its something that only affects women, and women are too weak for the draft, and plenty of other differences)
Within those legal differences between men and women there might be enough room for technical rape even if she consented. It would seem safer to not admit even admit to consensual sex on the part of the guys if there was any drinking involved if what I’m think about the standards for rape is correct (although maybe I’m totally off base). But since I’m just a spectator I don’t guess it matters how much uncertainty I have on the laws. It seems like there are people outraged on both sides, when it seems like right now the best position to be in is a lets wait and see position. I'm not sure what the point of being outraged before any trail is over is or how it could help the situation.4/20/2006 4:38:50 PM |

Now here's an interesting question: What was the party for? Was it a celebration? A birthday party, bachelor party, victory party, going away party, end-of-midterms party?
They did not invite any women to their party, besides the two strippers.
Perhaps they were intending to secretly videotape the strippers (doing whatever they imagined the strippers would do) just for "fun"...?
Seriously, what was the party for???

I've resisted posting on this, but so much of it just doesn't add up on both sides.
Why was the party over so suddenly? The parties I've been to normally end with a gradual trickle out of people unless the host gets pissed and throws everyone out.
Why does the guy have a cab receipt? Seriously, I have taken MANY cabs, and I've NEVER had the cabbie give me a receipt unless I ASKED for one. They don't just hand them to you as a matter of course. I also think it's funny that some of you are questioning the opinion of the doctor and nurse who examined the woman, but no one yet has questioned whether the cab driver is a reliable witness.
Why did the other stripper call 911? Why didn't the 911 operator ask for her name? I've only called 911 twice, both times for medical emergies of strangers, and both times they asked me first my location, second the condition of the person and what was needed, and then my name.
It add just doesn't add up either way you look at it. I don't believe half of what is being reported in the media anyway. 4/20/2006 11:45:42 PM |

from the article . . .
Quote : | "By 12:24 a.m., a receipt reviewed by ABC indicates that Seligmann's ATM card was used at a nearby Wachovia bank. In a written statement to the defense also reviewed by ABC, a cabdriver confirms picking up Seligmann and a friend a block and a half from the party, and driving them to the bank. By 12:25 a.m., he was making a phone call to a girlfriend out of state.
What did Seligmann do after leaving the bank? The taxi driver remembers taking him to a drive-thru fast-food restaurant and then dropping him off at his dorm. Duke University records show that Seligmann's card was used to gain entry at 12:46 a.m." |
Quote : | "ABC News traced the steps of Seligmann's story, timing how long it took to get from place to place. In repeated trials, the drive between the Wachovia branch and the corner where the cab picked him up took approximately five minutes. This suggests that Seligmann must have left the house by around 12:19 a.m." |
They have a receipt from the ATM, not from the taxi. Even if you don't believe the taxi driver, the ATM receipt, phone call, and dorm entry records are pretty solid. The kid would've had to get to the ATM and home somehow, probably by taking a taxi because he's rich and doesn't have to walk. ]4/20/2006 11:54:00 PM |

Strippers are never an open party. This setup is exactly the way any stripper night would have gone.
Quote : | "Why was the party over so suddenly? The parties I've been to normally end with a gradual trickle out of people unless the host gets pissed and throws everyone out." |
The stripper said she was gonna call the cops on them over their dispute... you have a bunch of scholarship athletes at a private Mathodist school who are drinking underage, easily enough to get their scholarships yanked or at least serious trouble... you better believe they are gonna get out of there quick. Ever tried to clear out a keg party? All you have to do is shout "Someone is calling hte cops" and people leave in droves.

They have an electronic log of the phone calls with the cell phone compaany and with the cab dispatcher. The driver has the ride logged in his book. There is also the ATM video to back this up. Oh and plenty have tried to discredit the cab driver if you watch any national coverage. Oh and as for the doctor/nurse, from what I remember reading the nurse said she thought the sexual trauma was likely to have occured several hours earlier than the rape was alleged to have occured (but I could just be remembering something else)

The other stripper called 911 because the other one was already drunk and would not have been taken seriously by the operator about being harrased or the N-word. I think a better question is why the stripper lied multiple times describing what happened, who she was, and how she knew the alleged victim. If you are talking about the 911 call later, it wasn't the stripper who called (it was Kroger).4/21/2006 12:01:35 AM |

As for not inviting anyone else, that might be because they hired the stripper, or maybe it was just because they're all on the same team and all buddies and really didn't care to have anyone else at the party. Believe it or not, not all college parties are open door.4/21/2006 12:25:45 AM |
