the games I went to this regular season were all 1/2 full and boring, so I really didn't get a feel for how loud that place gets for hockey

....BUT TONIGHT, it really was just as quiet until the Canes scored. this is fucking playoffs hockey. you fuckers need to get loud and stay loud, not just when there's a kill or a shot or a big hit. it needs to stay continuously loud (like it was on TV in Montreal)

Tonight's game was unbelievable! It was very entertaining watching everyone leave after the Devils scored and then run back to their seats when the Canes tied it. Wow...seriously one of the best hockey games I've been to. Very cardiac pack.

Now, does anyone know if tonight's game was being broadcast in HD by OLN? I was in the Charlotte area, and one of the In-HD channels was showing baseball, and the other was showing some travel show or some shit.

Josh, not only are you not a hockey fan, you lack simple understanding of logic and the english language.

In that sentence the had applies to the Carolina hurricanes, not Gerber.

This is one better than the regular nhl.com highlights, because it has the Wallin review sequence that includes the "GOAL" chant.

Quote :
"RALEIGH - If you live in the Carolinas and follow the Hurricanes, it's pretty much guaranteed that your puck knowledge has been questioned by hockey sophisticates from more frigid and French-speaking locales.
Now, as the Hurricanes march deeper into the playoffs, every Canes-hater in North America is using the team's Sun Belt location to lampoon its fan base.

So are we really hockey neophytes who should stick to watching college hoops and NASCAR?

Using an approach that can only be described as highly unscientific, we decided to test the hockey IQ of diehard Canes fans tailgating outside the RBC Center on Monday evening. The method: a three-part quiz on hockey trivia that any Canadian worth his breezers would know.

The good news: What Canes fans lack in hockey knowledge, they make up for in creativity.

When asked what "breezers" are, most surmised that they are some sort of alcoholic beverage, most likely a wine cooler made by Bacardi.

"That's a drink in the Bahamas, isn't it?" asked Frank Strohlein, a season ticket holder who said he attended the team's first game in Greensboro, in 1997.

Others thought a breezer was some kind of near-miss on the ice -- fanning on a slap shot, or maybe missing an attempted check.

But a surprising number of fans thought the term was a derogatory nickname for former Philadelphia Flyers goalie John Vanbiesbrouck.

"They call him 'The Breezer' because stuff goes right through him," said Cheryl Mulhern, a former Flyers fan who has changed allegiance to the Hurricanes. "Why do you think they traded him?"

(For those scoring at home, breezers are hockey shorts.)

OK, next question: What's a "Gordie Howe hat trick"?

"That's the one with an empty-netter, or it could be all in the same period," said Dawn Meyer -- who answered the other two questions correctly.

Mike Allen said it meant scoring five goals in one game, explaining that he learned about Howe's playing style from hockey's most notorious film.

"Old time hockey," he said with a Canadian accent. "I've seen 'Slap Shot.' "

(Rent it again. A "Gordie Howe hat trick" is a goal, an assist and a five-minute major penalty for fighting, all in the same game.)

Finally, a bit of Hartford Whalers trivia. The Whalers -- who later became the Canes -- were one of just two NHL teams to wear a certain item before it was outlawed by the NHL. What was it?

Only a handful of fans came up with the correct answer, though it wasn't for a lack of trying. Among the answers tossed out:

Extra-large protective cups.

The color green.

Some sort of special patch on the sleeve.

A harpoon emblem.

More than one fan immediately answered a fish -- before other tailgaters pointed out that a whale is actually a mammal.

(The answer? The Whalers and the Flyers were the only two teams to wear what one old-school Whalers fan described correctly as "those goofy long pants." That was in the 1982-83 season).

The generally poor test scores did little to dampen the festive mood among tailgaters, who appeared entirely comfortable with their own hockey knowledge.

"I was excited for the quiz before that first question," said Stephen Flanagan, clearly wondering what "breezers" had to do with being a true hockey fan.

"

wtf? Lead article online in the SPorts section of the N&O. I played hockey all my life, lived in CT, went to tons of Whalers games, and got ONE of the questions they asked right. The breezer one. But I never called them that.. they're hockey pants to me.

That guy is a total n00b. He got hold of me and some other Canes bloggers a while back wanting to talk to us for an article. I reply and express interest, give him my contact info and a good time to call...never hear from him again.

I e-maul him three days later saying "Hey, what's up? Haven't heard from you" and he says:

Quote :
"Oh, the article's been changed. We're writing about people learning to play hockey. You're not currently in an adult learn-to-play class by chance, are you?"

I mean, shit--DeCock or Giglio woulda gotten back to me, cos they're at least professionals.
